    My neighbors' deck was a total rust out so I got a used rust-free deck from Ebay for $120 and transferred everything over. On that chute flap, I wedged a screwdriver in the spring hinge that held it open and easily put the 2 bolts in. Just lift up on the flap and pull the SD out. Excellent weld job.

    I Brazed my deck. The bronze built up and was clinking with every rotation. Then the blade cleared a path after a while. You should get a lot of comments. Welding always does. LOL "Comment Generator" Keep them coming!

      Great idea! Brazing is more approachable for some of us and should do just as good a job.

    New thing for me! Been fixing and maintaining Toros in Metro Detroit for about five years. I’ll definitely be on the look out for all future machines I work on. Thanks for another great video!

    Great video!! I have come across this many times on Toro's and wondered why this happens.

      Designed so all the weight is on the middle of the cheaply made deck thanks for watching

    I wish I could share the pic of my solution for this. I'll try and describe. Think large nail with the head cut off. Bend it slightly so if follows the curve of the deck. It fits perfectly in the under lip. Weld it there. It adds a huge amount of strength to the area. You can't see it from the outside. Then weld as shown in this video.

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great idea! I prefer the outside to give more clearance but something thin like that makes great sense also. Thanks for watching!

    What I've always done, is have a buddy, pull the area together, then clamp it, then I tack it top, then bottom, let it cool, then take the clamp off, then finish weld it, cool it then grind it, then paint it.

    They made that part of the deck thinner compared to the decks earlier, those decks usually crack in the first few years, I’ve even had them crack up by where the self propelled cable goes through the deck, they just made them cheap and if a customer asks me I tell them to upgrade to the sr4 decks where they are cast aluminum

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      SR4 is great! I see them a bunch where pointed out but only once see one break by the cable. Thanks for sharing!

    Got to ask, what results if you just cut it away? Great information.

    • @crisprtalk6963
      @crisprtalk6963 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Seems to me that would be a lot safer than if you leave it as is.

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Much safer than leaving it but it allows the mower to flex on the opposite side of the deck and up by where the handle meets the deck. It will work just starts to flex enough pretty soon that the deck will be hitting the front of mower deck housing

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It would be but causes another issue pretty quickly if used like that

    I get these in all the time with the same crack, 99%of the time they are personal paces. I've only had one front wheel drive with that crack and it was completely beat. The personal paces also have the front wheel adjuster break off (usually the right side) but again not on the front wheel drives

      My Toro personal pace deck cracked on the right side by the wheel adjuster. Bought it new May 21, 2015. Broke today May 11, 2024. 9 years of use almost to the day!

    I have the exact same crack on my deck. Since the deck is rusted thru the area where the battery sits, I've decided to scrap. the deck completely. I may have located a almost new deck at a shop. The owner forgot to add oil and cooked the brand new engine!!!!

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Someone else said this same thing, on the inside right? Still have to grind it down some I'm sure?

    • @Rein_Ciarfella
      @Rein_Ciarfella 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! I think I’ve seen some mowers where that section of deck is round rod instead of part of the stamping. Quarter round stock is readily available and useful for many other applications. So also is quarter all-thread. 👍

    Sounds like you should have some lil stickers made. “Take me to the” Recycler lol. Sounds like their deck is just too thin gauge metal

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lol that is for sure! These are thicker than the MTD ones but the way the chute design is they always seem to break here

    Well, I can guarantee you'll never see that condition on an old school Snapper walk behind. My 27 year old Snapper is rock solid... I guess Toro went cheapo at some point.

    • @IndRepair

    • @IndRepair

      It depends on if we would replace that handle you speak of
