    I know the feeling about those engines. They sure are finicky. But guys still really like them. I rescued about 4 of them off the curb so far and have fixed and resold each one.

      I love these engines, in my opinion, they were better than Briggs&Stratton (not saying Briggs is bad). But you have to service them well and use them regularly, then they will last.

    It starts , no prime, first pull. I've had to clean the float bowl, that's all in 4 years. Other than oil changes. But all my mowers have in line filters which I change regularly. It's the best engine I've ever owned

    I have the same mower and engine and have had zero problems with it. The Tecumseh engine is much heavier than the Briggs. It has an oil pump instead of the splash method of lubrication the other engines have. A couple of years ago I stored it without running it dry. All I did was remove the bowl and spray carb cleaner in the throat while starting it. Cleared it right up. Put a new bowl gasket on and away it went. Only thing I don't like is it's not being a Personal Pace. That would have been nice. That engine is heavy duty compared to the newer ones. Have three Toros and really like them.

    I have had some problems with after market tecumseh carbs leaking as you described. I also find some that leak slowly out the bottom of the bowl when brand new.

    Nice vid! I love these Tecumseh LEV engines, got four of 'em on Personal Pace mowers in the shop right now that I'm restoring. I never have problems getting them to run properly but I always seem to find blown out sump gaskets on them for some reason. Unusual to have one of those new carbs fail but hey it's an $8.00 China aftermarket carb so can't really blame Tecumseh for that one LOL!

    • @hanksgarage_
      @hanksgarage_  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve seen both the sump and top crankshaft gaskets fail. The latter sends oil all over the inside and overtime makes a nice sludge.

  • @dougseaman8791
    @dougseaman8791 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Couple things. The run speed is adjusted by the tension on the governor spring, not the idle screw. Also, the primer won't work on these carbs if the left air filter mounting screw is not installed. Tecumseh bulletin. I realize this is 2 years late.

    • @hanksgarage_

      You would have to change the base of it out so it would be the base, the filter and the cage. You have to have all three parts

    SUGGESTIONS? almost every small eng i find these days, the carb has had ethinal in it for years, and everything is clogged, using welding wire i can clear main jet but i can never get idel jet free. any tried and true methods for getting those ethinal chunks out of tiny passages that wire wont fit in to and carb cleaner wont touch?

    • @hanksgarage_

    The new Toro Recyclers are junk! Worse mower I ever bought. After 9 days, took it back to Home Depot for refund.
    Engine skipped every minute or so. Mower wouldn't crank after the first 20 mins of using it. Pulled for a minute..got it started, began cutting out like it was going to shut down. The self propel controls are not user friendly. They are underneath the handle...had to use my thumbs to activate that feature. Mower was hard to cut straight lines for me because of that awkward control position.
    Never buying a Toro again.
    Must be made in china.
