  • Shane made this 60mm enhanced Stanley challenge padlock and packed it full of hand made pins - beautiful work! These Stanley padlocks are a great design: heavy duty, excellent materials, shielded shackles, and are a good foundation for any high security lock build.

    I was waiting for you to pull out the shotgun to loosen up that screw. I think it actually took longer to remove that screw then it took to pick that lock. Awesome work as always Mr Bill. Stay safe and stay legal mate. 👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘

      I know this is a really old video but it looks like this lock is a redesign to the one LockPickingLaywer busted with the Ramset. If you look at the base plate, the screw looks to be a bit more protected. I'd be interested to see if the Ramset could get into this one. I checked my Stanley's and they have the same base as this one.

      2. Medium hook in 0.015"
      3. DeForest in 0.023"

    I turned an old dewalt drill into a ghetto lathe to shape pins with and was wondering what narrowing the top of the pin does for the sheer line? Like those T pins he had in the core? I got tons of home made spools so i wanna try another type of security pin. Plus i have like ten defiant rim cylinders waiting for alien tech invasion

    • @josuelservin2409
      @josuelservin2409 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      lifelessdead89, The tip tends to overset easily and get stuck in the shear line and feel like they are set and don't give counter rotation like the spools, so you have to let go a bit of tension so they fall into the core again. Give them a try they are fun and easy to make.

      Not at all, that was intended as a compliment. LockPickingLawyer is one of the most gifted pickers to come along in a very long time. He has quickly become a leading expert and has the unusual ability to innovate bypasses and picking techniques. We should ALL be grateful for his refreshing perspective on locks - I know I am.

    • @Thermalions
      @Thermalions 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I didn't think you were really having a go at him - more a friendly nod to his alternate attack vectors which everyone loves seeing.
      In hindsight 'jibe' was probably the wrong term to use given I see some definitions describe it as an insulting comment.

    You made me really nervous getting that screw out. There should be a saying for bolts/screws equivalent to “Measure twice, cut once.” The only one that springs to mind is “If it doesn’t fit, force it. If it breaks it needed fixin’ anyway.” But fixing something inside a solid steel body is beyond my ‘Fixin’ Level.
    That tight? Blue Loc-Tite with just a solid pressure does the trick would work well for locks. It looks like a lot of manufacturers use the blue. I only use red if I KNOW I am not going to be loosening the bolt in the future.

    Excuse me asking this probably very basic question, but what is the significant security factor in using different shaped pins (standard versus spool shape for example)? Do the different shapes make it harder to pick? If so, how?
    Its just a cylinder moving inside a barrel so I'm struggling to see the relevance?

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a lock picking channel, this is a pretty broad question, but here are a couple of videos that clearly show you why security pins are a great improvement in lock security. To answer your question, YES, security pins DEFINITELY make locks MUCH more difficult to pick. There's a little more to it than a "cylinder moving inside a barrel". Were it that simple, locks would be meaningless. Take a look at these videos and let us know if you have any more quesitons.

    Why do you always pull the "Snap Ring" before inserting the key? Seems like asking for trouble.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personal preference. I don't like to try to balance the lock on the key while pulling the snap ring. Also, if the key is in and I drop the lock while fighting the snap ring, the core could pop our and spew parts everywhere. So basically, for me it is a risk reduction technique. I don't think there's a "right" or "wrong" way.

      You know you have a fast forward button...right?? Brian, if I cut stuff out I'd have more people than just you saying I repinned the lock or modified it in some way, then used the break to cover it up.

    But it cannot even stand up to thermite!
    I hope that you are healing well, Bill. Needing to be put back together is no fun.

    Always a good sign when you need to pick a screw on the lock.

    If the key is that hard to use in the lock... I would call foul. I mean, whats the point? It's supposed to be a usable lock.

      Zeet, For a normal lock you *need* reliability for sure, but for a challenge lock you *want* difficulty, that's why Bill have stated that if the key turns the core it is a valid challenge lock, even if it is a bit sticky and/or sloppy.
      And that's why you should never use a challenge lock as a normal lock, because it could be unreliable and even dangerous.

      I understand the whole point of a challenge lock... but if you can't turn the key, it's not a "lock". I can make a lock made of pure steel. No keyway, no pins, no nothing... it's just 6 inches of steel welding two chains together. Is that a "challenge lock"? Well whats the difference? If you can't turn the key... then it's not even a "lock". Anyone can make a paperweight thats hard to open, the challenge is making a LOCK thats hard to open... and for something to be a LOCK... it has to be FUNCTIONAL.
