      I'm taking it that you two guys are locksmiths? I agree, some of the wickedest locks to arrive were from locksmiths. 😋

    • @bradw0535
      @bradw0535 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nah, I'm nowhere near skilled enough to be a locksmith. I work commercial and industrial maintenance, so I get to dabble in some lock work, rekeying, installs of locks and other security hardware, etc. So I do get to run across a lot of different stuff, and can always tell when I'm working on something that was done by a locksmith, or something that was done by someone like.. well... me , ha!!

    Well done! Nick didn't actually mill the face of the keyway; this is a Titan lock where the front is milled slightly so the key goes in further to accommodate the 6th pin in the front.

    Hi bill great video. Is it possible that pin 6 being so short and the top pin also being short that both fit flush in the plug allowing the spring to be snagged when picked if pin 6 isn’t picked and gets caught. Then when the key was forced in it pushed the pin past the spring?

    I have acquired 6 pin kwikset locks from Restore with wide-topped keyways just like that. As others have suggested, I tape multiple TOK wrenches together so they fit snuggly in the keyway. Looks like a tough lock and I really like keypin number 1.

  • @Gameboygenius
    @Gameboygenius 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was screaming at the screen, Bill take a pair of fine tweezers and pull out the loose end of the spring to at least release the pin the right way. Speaking of a different kind of spring, greetings from Sweden where we still have winter with snow falling and no birds singing as of yet.

  • @Drottninggatan2017
    @Drottninggatan2017 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    How can that be?
    Even if the spring broke off the bottom part should not be able to pass the pin.
    Was the spring stretched out and the pin inserted inside of it?
    Was the pinner-upper not at his wit's end?

    • @warrenmasters3036
      @warrenmasters3036 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      SLORRIFJART321 yeah the spring in #6 was sticking out... Bill get your eyes checked ...

    • @torchofkck4989
      @torchofkck4989 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SLORRIFJART321 ,
      yeah, my guess is that the spring was stretched out & pin driven in together... for effect.
      not only does it take away feedback, & messes with tension play... it holds under light tension, allowing you to believe still having a binding pin.

  • @johnmccormick2883
    @johnmccormick2883 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video!
    I think when you were showing the Bible with pin 6 still in place I saw the spring sticking way up .... either that or it was a long scratch ...
    Also wish you’d have given a wrap-up commentary on the pins as they related to you SPP’ing feedback... surprisingly a lot of magic in the key pins ... I think that the pin 3 false set must have been in an overset condition as the only spooling was on the key pin? Great pins and a lot of fun viewing 👍🏻

  • @DeanoTheSaxman
    @DeanoTheSaxman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Bill .... When you get sneaky locks that have lock pins that lock the barrel up and stop rotation, how do you get out of the situation once the barrel is locked ... ? Is the lock now toast when the anti tamper pins have locked the barrel up ... ?

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on how they trap was designed, but lately they have been NON-recoverable - meaning the lock is ruined unless I can somehow gut the pins.

    • @DeanoTheSaxman
      @DeanoTheSaxman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MMMmm non- recoverable .... So not a good idea to have one of these on a one entrance apartment ... Unless someone can develop one of these that is recoverable with the genuine key ... ! I'm amazed that most of these locks are defeated so easily .... Regards from the UK ... Keep up the great interesting work, mesmerizing ... !!!! Did you see my comment on the Bowley ... ? I'm also a machinist by trade so lock picking is becoming a bit of an interest for me .. Cheers Bill .... ;-)

  • @tphvictims5101
    @tphvictims5101 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    WOW 👍🏻
    I believe the piece of spring was meant to be where it was. Between the Bible and core pins. The spring steel would have caused the binding. Look at the spring closely and see if it was cut or sheared.

    Bill you often wonder out loud if we can see stuff. We totally can see stuff and apparently much better than you can. I'm not sure how springs escape from their home but they most certainly do then and now probably during reassembly. Most of use are wondering why you didn't see that #6 spring was was attempting an escape.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My problem (well, ONE of my problems - I have MANY, just ask my wife) it that I'm forced to view things through the camera lens, which is only 2" wide, so everything is TINY and slightly pixelated. I need to accept that it is actually filming in HD and get on with it.

  • @sarinhighwind

    Just a thought Bill. Stack the normal top of the key way tensioners together and stick em in when they do this. You got different thicknesses and probably 300 of those things around.

    Kwikset has a problem with 1 depths and the standard top pin required when picking their locks. The spring will be below the shearline. If I remember correctly their top pins are .165 drivers
    To prevent this I used .175 or .180 drivers

    That lock should have been a lot easier suprised you got it with that spring like that

  • @butre.
    @butre. 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can tell you exactly what happened, pin 6 had too short a driver. when he finished that lock he picked it himself, but never touched pin 6 because it never bound up. since the driver on 6 was too short that left the spring in the shear line when he monkeyed the core to the open position. once he was satisfied with his lock he stuck the key in, forcing the driver into the shear line around the mangled spring, taking it out of play entirely, but killing all feedback in the process.
    the extreme difficulty of this lock ironically was entirely a product of poor assembly.

    So my background is engineering and I have an inquisitive mine and love solving puzzles, hence my interest in lock picking and especially your attempts at challenge locks. But I ask myself: what is the point of security pins in key pins since they don’t come into play unless you overset them. I would be extremely interested in your consideration of this issue. Keep up the good work and please do more co;;abortive stuff wit the Lock Picking Lawyer.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. You are correct, in "normal" locks the security pins are almost irrelevant. Almost, but they DO offer resistance against unskilled pickers. In some locks, the key chambers are threaded, have seams, or the lock contains a floating core or sleeve. In THOSE locks, all pins get hung up and increase the picking resistance of the lock. Take a look at the Ruko 500 for a perfect example of this.

      I was partially kidding. People going to some amazing lengths to try to make it harder to pick. Seems like there's been a lot of people drilling out the top of the keyway lately. Just like mummifying the keys. I am half expecting to see a key in a welded metal box one of these days.
