I do not understand why 'We are Australian' is not our national anthem. Says it all brilliant and what a great way to show the world we are one!

100 I’ve always said this
The Reason why is because The Seekers won't allow it as they have the copyright to the song. So every time the song is played or sang they have copyright and hence Royalty from the song.
A national Anthem is free to all and the seekers don't allow this. and that is the reason why it will never by National Anthem. Comes down to Money and the seeks didn't want to give it away.
It is our National Anthem But in our heart and for ABC

Matt cooking did a great job leading the drummers including my 7 years old daughter amongst them. He has been an inspiring teacher for her.

@@timbrown1667 This was the best and made me cry. Who ever got all the women elders in the Gully is a hero. I wish the ABC would do a video of each of the groups and make it longer so we have a choice and can hear it for longer. I love drums. The staff of the ABC and SBS are the best in the world.

This makes me cry and be so proud of everyone involved. I sent this to the USA friends and tell them to do something similar to stop the USA falling apart. I love drummers and it happens so rarely and I do not know why as it is uplifting.

I loved the elders singing in the Gully. We need more of this as it is so uplifting after so long under Covid. It makes me cry and is a fantastic example I never thought I would see when I moved here from New Zealand. I worked with Aboriginal women on a makeup range decades ago and they were awesome. Can you not get the ABC to do a program on the choir singing in awesome songs in awesome places to uplift the nation. I watched the documentary years ago about a choir and expected more but never saw anything Lets get the elders on video with the best production so it is there for the kids and all of us. I am house bound due to poor lungs like a lot of people but I have travelled all around Australia however few Australians have. Surely someone can get a camera out and show us the green country and use your Choir and others to celebrate. We so need something uplifting after flood, fires and drought

Brilliant, love it. Longer, more. Lets play this and other versions, around the world, including his original, in the lead up to, and at the opening and closing of the Olympic games in Brisbane......Maybe even a version to make it an international version...for the games (opening and ending).

It's a great rendition of the opening verse and chorus, but I wish they would have done the whole song. From convicts to freedom, to settlers and farmers, bushies and battlers, diggers, story tellers, and artists, the depression, the good times, all together these things have made us and the spirit of this great land what we call Australian.

@@abcaustralia Can you not do a whole hour on songs and seeing the country green for a change. It would be so uplifting after floods, fires and droughts. It showcases why we need the ABC and SBS and I send the shorts to the USA to show them what to do to bring the USA together as many of my American friends are scared of civil war. Why can we not get to make a program to show the city people, people overseas, tourists and the kids and future generations. It has to be done now before the weather turns us back into the desert. I want more songs from Aboriginal women elders and more drums and more dance. Come on ABC and how about a survey on what sort of programs we want to see in the future. Please get more money from the Labor Government asap. Please ask Ms Buttrose.

Grew up watching the ABC. Can't stand watching it now.
I'd love to see a longer version of this. And can't wait for what we'll get to see in 2032 for the 100th anniversary! Hopefully we'll still have a solid Labor/Greens/Independent government then so Aunty won't have to be so scared of funding cuts and return to her best self.
Me too and everything you say is so right. I want a whole hour of seeing the country green for a change and to show how beautiful this country is . The singing, the drumming, the dancing could all do longer bits in various awesome places and with our awesome animals and videos of sections so we can send them overseas and get people to come and holiday.

Don't overuse it ABC... its on every 2nd ad... Also, Its a wonderful song and should be played how the seekers sing it. Plus the lyrics are and always will be FORTY thousand years, (not sixty)

Embracing the Aborigines and post 2nd world war immigration is extremely important.

I interpret the two verses solo differently. It's saying everybody is the same as the first people to come to Australia 60,000 years ago.
Just respecting the significance of the 60,000 year old culture, and then unifying the rest of the country.
Something the abc would never report is the reason that the Australian national anthem was changed from god save the Queen to advance Australia fair was the same reason that we went from Australian currency having commonwealth of Australia written on it to just Australia on it is because Gough whittlam took us at a federal level into being in a quasi Republic, a corporate state. But the abc would never talk about that would they,,,,,they would deride people that did talk about it
