This song had to grow on me. I was surprised so many went nuts with the album release and called it the single. Its very experimental in the pre-chorus gets revamped halfway through with a major tonic chord as does the chorus the last time around. Same melody, just underpinned differently. My favorite unreleased song when the album came out was "Letters to You." You should check it out. Oh and a power balled called "The One."

Gotta admit I was disappointed you didn't love it but I can appreciate your criticism, and at least you found more good than bad (and put some effort into justifying the bits you didn't like 😅). Perhaps you can check out BAND MAID Honkai next for a funky bass and drum intro? It's on the BVND MVID channel so I don't know if you'll want to post a reaction since it isn't the official channel but I still recommend a listen on your own, at least.

The song is meant to play out like turning pages in a story book,filled with short but classical tales that are rarely told. Not easy to write such a tune, but Band Maid pulls it off in classic Band Maid style. Happy New Year Mark-a-pausi ! You're never boring ! 🎉🎉🎉❤
Didn't want to mention this when I requested it, because I know you prefer to go in blind, but supposedly Kanami's inspiration when composing this song came from reflecting on the death of someone close to her. I think that feeling resonated with me while I was visiting my mother in the hospital, the riff repeated at the end sort of being the will of the spirit to live beyond itself. It wasn't my favorite song from Epic Narratives, but I think it gave me a lot of hope. Anyway thanks again for checking it out and happy new year!
To be fair, 30% of the greatness is the accent and 70% is the personality. One could argue the personality wouldn't seem so great without the accent, I suppose, 😜
I think if you listen to this one again, you'll like it more. It's hard to appreciate this one until you take it all in a few times. A lot going on but it works brilliantly together. This has become my favorite Band-Maid song and this might sound crazy but the composition is sooo good, it doesn't need a guitar solo.

Next time I actually make a stream I'll actually submit an actual Japanese Emo band, not disagreeing with the science here but they are way down the scale in comparison with bands like Japanese Youth so you may need a new graph with logarithmic axes.
I’m 99.999999% sure that no one in Band-Maid says let’s make a song like My Chemical whoever or anyone else. Rather Kanami composes what comes to her mind and heart and the song goes from there. She is known to not have a wide or well-developed experience of listening to lots of contemporary music, preferring to listen to classical music and that’s her inspiration. Years ago she listened to a limited number of artists like Santana, Steely Dan/Larry Carlton, Deep Purple l, Led Zeppelin and a few others. I don’t think anyone has ever heard her reference any emo band or anything other than already known. It’s just doesn’t appear to be in her wheelhouse. There are only 12 notes. And with rock guitars, bass and drums lots and lots and lots of rock music will undoubtedly plow a lot of the same territory and have high sonic similarities. It’s inevitable. By all accounts, it’s pure happenstance when it comes to BAND-MAID. Perhaps it’s your near insistence that they are purposefully ripping your favorite artists when there is no evidence to support it. Perhaps you should let it go and just enjoy the Maids music and appreciate it for what it is. Just a thought. 🤷🏻♂️ Happy New Year.
Saiki cites Muse as one of her inspirations and this was one of the songs Saiki wrote. Sure Kanami composed it, but Saiki directed her. It's a bit dishonest to say there's definitively NO emo influence when this is possibly one of the easiest Band-Maid songs to draw a direct emo influence to.
I'm sure Miku will get more gritty with it in the live servings 👍 I'll aggree with another commenter and suggest the 'Honkai' Live to gift you some solo pause opportunities...particularly a long bass intro. I say bass...it's more like funky alien foreplay pillow-talk if you ask me 🙈🙉☺
Hey, how about doing 'Bestie' next. There's also an amazing cover band of kids out of the Philippines called Missioned Souls that do an amazing cover of it. How about a Double Feature? I can't wait to see where it falls on the Emo Meter! And if Miku is your gal why not do some of her solo stuff? How about Cluppo 'With You'?

But see, I’ve never said she was the world’s greatest singer or whatever. I think her lyrics are fantastic, and I think when she leans more into indie folk rather than pop music, she has some absolutely fantastic songs. Is she a virtuoso? No. But in terms of pop stars, she does piss on everyone else out there at the moment, and she deserves some credit for that. It’s possible to appreciate Taylor because of what she brings to the table, AND appreciate band-maid for the same reasons. They fulfil two completely different moods for me, musically.
