Honkai is basically a deep cut, I find it so amazing that no matter which album, you can blind pick ANY song and voila you are listening to Band Maid's masterpiece song " Blind Pick" because they are all masterpieces. This is absolutely, zero doubt about it, the best band ever: - all players superb in their own right, egoless and sharing, the tightest unit in all show biz - a 140+ song catalog of unparalleled quality- no clinkers! - best served live baby, no tricks no autotune no miming, just straight ahead rock and roll - this band pours its love out for their fans like no other band - no band has more infectious fun on stage; as good as the music is, the feelgood vibe during the entire concert is just plain sick. Every fan smiling all the way thru - they all seem to be very good friends besides band mates and have all said they want to stay together a long time going forward. And Band Maid seems to attract the best reactors, so please take a bow you two!!
To be honest, Honkai is from Unseen World album. The album where every last song places in top 20-30 of all Band-Maid songs. No song from Unseen World is deep cut :P I might be biased :D
Sometimes I take for granted and think it's "normal" what Band-Maid is doing on a regular basis, but then I watch performances like this and I'm reminded how really special and extraordinary they are 🥰
That intro is just more proof that Band-Maid needs to be seen live to get the full experience. Because you'll get special intros for songs that are not in the studio recordings, and the moments like when Kanami and MISA battle it out, and whatever antics Miku and the rest get up to during magic time. Oh, and the long show jam packed with amazing music. That too.
Kanami's sound is flying around the stage on her best student's backing. When you pull out your ear phone from right ear, you can enjoy the student's sound, and pull it out from your left year, you can enjoy the master's sound.
FYI, Band Maid just posted their year-end wrap-up video behind their pay wall sites (Prime and O-mei-syu-sama), and it's a time to pay close attention where they strategically hint on things to come. One nugget Miku let slip out was about a busy 2025. She actually said "For 2025, we already announced it (their domestic tour dates), so I hope we can visit local areas and also go "overseas"" (time stamp: 21:35 of Pt. 2, Band Maid Year-end party 2024 video). If this is the case, they will have to announce this rather soon, perhaps, after the Feb. 17th Spin-off Show or 4/1/2025. So, don't pay for your Fall 2025 travel plans to Japan just yet, Po! 🦍🍌

Only by being a member, we were able to purchase the Acoustic 2024 CD that we should be delivered in a couple weeks. The 2024 review interview was cool, just them sitting around a table eating and discussing the year with closed captions. It's a joy watching and listening to them laugh and enjoying each other, especially the "Akane incident".
"Honkai" already was a great song, raised to legendary status with the incredible bass and drum intro. I'm a huge fan of Unseen World - such a superb album - and "Honkai" has always been my fave deep cut (almost my fave song). Great reaction as always, guys!! 🤘🤘💕💕

MISA has said she has cut back on her drinking, but she had both an Asahi Super Dry and her bottle of Jim Beam on her amp at this show. This was an added intro to the song. That's why one needs to see them live in Japan. They add intros, solos, and duals throughout the show. Most are not heard outside Japan. MISA and Akane have done similar duets in Japan.

This is such an excellent Rock song, from the Unseen World album (2021). 🤘🤘As an ex languages teacher - OK, as a pedantic fecker - I have to add that though this song is usually titled in English as "Honkai" ("Honesty") but that is not usually written as a separate word and its context also depends on the type of Kanji used. A more accurate description would be "A Long-cherished Desire" or "A True Wish". Right, I'm off to get a life!
This song first really grabbed me when I watched the stream, a 2022 Christmas present, of the 9/9/2022 Eggman show they did just before their 2022 US tour. That performance was great, this one takes it to another level.

I hear you La Gringa, I was having a crappy day not long ago, not in a good head space at all and I stopped and checked myself as to why and seriously the answer was I hadn't played any BAND-MAID that day 🤯 I put on the B-M playlist and the world was good again, these amazing women are my musical oxygen, what a fcken band Po 👍🍻
Another thing to note, Miku's background vocals on this track are stellar. An octive higher than Saiki's, she provides the perfect backing to Saiki's soulful performance. In times of peril, I would want Miku right there besides me, cradling me with those sweet, angelic harmonies whether I'm battling it out against man, bear or disease.
Conquerer was all set to be THE Band Maid album ! Then the Lockdown sent Band Maid into "exile". The result was Unseen World , an incomparable masterpiece. Band Maid can draw greatness from any well or cistern you plunge them in. 🤯❤
The "spinoff show" was 20 or so songs that they weren't able to play during their 10th Anniversary show at Yokohama Arena in Nov 2023. Even though that show had 33 songs, they have too many graat songs... so they did this "spinoff" show in February 2024 to play many more of their great songs, and the setlist was incredible.
Hey Dean! Just got done watching NEK! at Eggman! Smilefest! 🙂 The only thing about Yoko and the spin-off that disappointed me a little was that they didn't play "Take Me Higher!!". I still don't understand that. Not on either of the 'Best-of' albums, either!
BAND-MAID live is definitely something else... there's no other band with that perfect balance between rockin' raw power, catchiness, groove, and feels. They're freakin magical, no other way to explain it lol It's funny that La Gringa mentioned 'You could be mine' by Guns N Roses because BAND-MAID have their own "version" of that intro in the song 'DICE', which you haven't listened yet, so you know... that would be a good one to react to. And also REAL EXISTENCE, Blooming, Rinne, Unleash!!!!!, Freedom, Start Over... well, a LOT of songs actually haha

If you haven't already, treat yourselves to the Maid's rendition of the Dawn Winery Theme at the Genshin Concert 2022. A beautiful little Mincho gem. Starting with an homage to one of her guitar heroes and an oh so satisfying MISA interlude as Akane patiently waits to join in on the fun, they step it up by turns. It's a short "3 act" instrumental, but you just know that if there were no constraints the "4th act" would be off the chain.

The effect that Misa was using probably has a funky name on it but it is an envelope filter. I have some multii effects units that have one built in. They definitely add some odd flavor to the sound.
As Akane has stated before…MISA! Is her musical sole-mate and Bestie. The Thunder Buddies is so true! What is so funny is that MISA is the shyest of the band but is coolest when she grooving with Akane! I am still mystified by how Akane can remember all her fills and patterns that she does in a song…I know practice makes prefect but OMG! Great reaction you two. 🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO!
Akane said that she always transcribes every single note into the score before recording. This would be a different matter from the drums arrangement for a new song, where the data is exchanged via DTM. And she added that she used to work in a music bar before she joined the band, where she often played in sight-reading mode, so she has gotten into the habit of transcribing scores, and that the scores are always playing in her head while she plays. (Source: _SPICE_ interview in 2022). I think she mentioned in her twitter that her repertoire at that time even covered about 600 songs.

Random suggestion = "Kimono Mom" is excellent to learn how to cook Japanese food. So simple and easy to understand. I was delighted to see just how easy most of the dishes are to make and yet American restaurants charge a ton of money. Not for reacting but just mentioned in case Jimmy was craving authentic Japanese better than American restaurants usually do.

I'm not gonna say that Akane is the best drummer ever....... so many different styles, genre's and techniques that are there in music..... impossible. But what I will say is that she "is the Happiest" drummer I have ever seen. Even happier than Ringo. On a different topic, I bet my son ($500 us) that he could not play the Kanami/MISA solo's note for note - he plays guitar/bass/drums) - The BEST $500us I have ever lost...... and I WAS HARD with him.
The only thing I can call this song is "Funky Honkai!". The camerawork during the intro and the song is amazing. This "impromptu" intro for live video IS the reason you want to attend one of their concerts. A Band-Maid concert is "like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get". LOL!!!!!
It’s funny you mentioned takoyaki because in the middle of January, my group will be heading to Nagoya to see Gacharic Spin and Doll$Boxx at Zepp Nagoya. I’ve been researching places to go in Nagoya since I know next to nothing about it. I just found a video about a pair of twins sisters who run a takoyaki stand there. Yeah, MISA had a really bad hangover on the road and switched to beer for shows after that. The only one that can drink MISA under the table is Miku, which is odd since MISA is the tallest and Miku is the smallest. It must help being an Old Man reincarnated as an ancient Magic Pigeon. And the only bassist that can touch MISA is Fami. But then she joined LOVEBITES and then they put her on a leash. So sad.

A beautiful little Mincho gem. Starting with an homage to one of her guitar heroes and an oh so satisfying MISA interlude as Akane patiently waits to join in on the fun, they step it up by turns. It's a short "3 act" instrumental, but you just know that if there were no constraints the "4th act" would be off the chain.

The effect that Misa was using probably has a funky name on it but it is an envelope filter. I have some multii effects units that have one built in. They definitely add some odd flavor to the sound.
As Akane has stated before…MISA! Is her musical sole-mate and Bestie. The Thunder Buddies is so true!
What is so funny is that MISA is the shyest of the band but is coolest when she grooving with Akane!
I am still mystified by how Akane can remember all her fills and patterns that she does in a song…I know practice makes prefect but OMG!

Akane said that she always transcribes every single note into the score before recording. This would be a different matter from the drums arrangement for a new song, where the data is exchanged via DTM. And she added that she used to work in a music bar before she joined the band, where she often played in sight-reading mode, so she has gotten into the habit of transcribing scores, and that the scores are always playing in her head while she plays. (Source: _SPICE_ interview in 2022). I think she mentioned in her twitter that her repertoire at that time even covered about 600 songs.

Random suggestion = "Kimono Mom" is excellent to learn how to cook Japanese food. So simple and easy to understand. I was delighted to see just how easy most of the dishes are to make and yet American restaurants charge a ton of money. Not for reacting but just mentioned in case Jimmy was craving authentic Japanese better than American restaurants usually do.

I'm not gonna say that Akane is the best drummer ever....... so many different styles, genre's and techniques that are there in music..... impossible. But what I will say is that she "is the Happiest" drummer I have ever seen. Even happier than Ringo.
On a different topic, I bet my son ($500 us) that he could not play the Kanami/MISA solo's note for note - he plays guitar/bass/drums) - The BEST $500us I have ever lost...... and I WAS HARD with him.

The only thing I can call this song is "Funky Honkai!". The camerawork during the intro and the song is amazing. It’s funny you mentioned takoyaki because in the middle of January, my group will be heading to Nagoya to see Gacharic Spin and Doll$Boxx at Zepp Nagoya. Yeah, MISA had a really bad hangover on the road and switched to beer for shows after that. The only one that can drink MISA under the table is Miku, which is odd since MISA is the tallest and Miku is the smallest. It must help being an Old Man reincarnated as an ancient Magic Pigeon. And the only bassist that can touch MISA is Fami. But then she joined LOVEBITES and then they put her on a leash. So sad.
