FFDP does a lot of songs about stuff people don’t like to talk about. Come Down is a heavy one.

This 100%. They talk about the things no one wants to but everyone needs to. As you said "Coming Down" is a great example.

Coming Down is a GREAT song. The video may be difficult to watch, but it should be. Suicide is a difficult topic and they address it head on with a very deep and very heavy song.

As a 5 time combat retired veteran, the things we have to do weighs on us heavily but what we can't understand is how 1 second you can be sitting there joking with your buddy, the next they are gone, and we wonder why we survived it. Survivors guilt is what really gets to us because in our minds, it's not fair and we think we aren't good enough for their sacrifice and would rather it have been us. Thanks for your respect and to all my brothers and sisters, I love you so much!

I'm not a veteran myself but that line, as you said, stings. I can't fucking imagine what that guy goes through. "Please, let me trade", because in his eyes *he* should be the one who's gone. *He* should've stepped on that explosive. It's heartbreaking.

My Husband is also a Veteran. Took him awhile to integrate back into normal society after 21yrs. 1997-2018. The reason he joined was to provide for a Daughter he had coming, and growing up poor, he really had no other good options. He has been to Iraq, Afghanistan, but that's all he really says. He gave ALL of his uniforms, medals, and letters from her Mother, to his Daughter. He very rarely talks of any of it.

Both versions are obviously different but they have the same message. I love both versions and can relate to both of them. Two combat tours with loss of life are enough for anyone. BTW, in 2003 I was on the military security detail in Afghanistan when FFDP met the troops. I know firsthand that they back the military 110%. They're some awesome guys and treated everyone with the utmost respect.

Late to the party, but have a story to share.
One of my half brothers was in Iraq in the National Guard, they were on a patrol walking through a city and some 15 feet from him stepped on a mine and was blown to peices, but my half brother was unscathed physically. He instinctively called for help on his radio and a big Abrams tank drove around the corner and he took a sigh of relief. But he hasn't been the same since. PTSD most notably, and he loves this song and can relate to it to its fullest meaning.

The fact that some people can go through that and still have the mental fortitude to volunteer and do it again cuz they know what it means for the future of this country amazes me. I'm a veteran and have been to Iraq in 2009 and I never saw combat luckily but I still didn't wanna go back. Thank you to your father for his service! It is a source of great pride for any of us that come from military families or those who have served. I have said before and I will say here, being handed that folded flag is an experience no family should ever experience. For those of us who have risked coming home beneath the flag, we take it very personal when anyone disrespects that flag. This song and video hit me incredibly hard as I actually lost one of my best friends to suicide after they served. It is such an incredible sacrifice they make to keep us safe and they tolls it takes do not go away easily.

Its interesting how the video shows so much about what happened to the one soldier.
How friends he had good times with, and he joined the service together with the same purpose in mind.
How all but him were killed in the convoy, and how much it was destroying him.
Then his realization that he get either keep feeling bad all the time, or he could stand back up and go back to the war he and his friends were in ...and keep fighting the battle they all pledged to each other and our country to fight.
When looking at the end of tut he video he gets out of the vehicle as we see some new recruits...
...very young men in the service.
It eludes to him being a seasoned soldier who will be helping the younger soldiers in ways only a seasoned combat soldier can.
The seriousness on his face, and the fear on theirs.
It's as if he was meant to go back to train them better on the battlefield, and be a mentor...not only a commander.
One might also(if one is religiously minded) note that it gives a renewal of spirit for him to return to finish what he and his friends went to fight for.
The video has quite a bit of forethought to it.
    Very well written and performed.

Again as I stated before… this band is beyond their music for what they stand for and their appreciation for the men and women of our military and more. This is actually a cover from an Offspring song, and twisted in their own way FYI

As a former combat medic, and veteran in the second gulf war this song hits really close to home. I still struggle with thoughts of self destruction. I still struggle with substance abuse. I cry at times when it's inappropriate. I still seek pain and penance for the sins I committed. When you have time and distance you realize you weren't human then. You were an animal. Driven solely by survival. And you did what it took. But that makes it no easier I still seek pain...I still seek numbness, I still seek an end to it all. I go to therapy a few times a week. And you know you have guilt. You lived and they died. You have to fight for your place to live every fucking day. It's not easy.

While I agree with many here that "Coming Down" from FFDP has a great message and it's a good song - massive trigger warning. For you but also for potential viewers.
In Germany, where I am, there are restrictions in place before you can start the video and there is a link to a helpline. It's there for a reason and please take it serious in case this could be relevant to you (I don't know you well enough to judge that).

The big reason they do these videos and speak up about the issues veterans face is because the lead singer Ivan Moodey was in the Marines himself, so he has seen this first hand. They not only send out a powerful message but also donate a lot of their proceeds to veteran organizations. Great respect for them as a band and big respect to all the veterans.

This song has gotten me through so much. One of the things I love about music is that it isn't limited when it comes to what you can apply the message/lyrics etc. to. For me personally I haven't lost anyone who was deployed or anything like that, but this song helped/still helps me deal with my cousin's death (along with too many others). He was exactly two months younger than me and struggled with addiction like I did. A few years ago he went into a coma that he never woke up from he passed about a month or so later. He had a son with an ex who was about 3 at the time and at the funeral I was sitting closer to the back with my parents and his son who was with the mother was standing in the back behind all of the pews. I heard his son asking the mother "Where is dad? I want to play with dad." it broke my heart that this little boy is now going to have to grow up without his father. I struggle with survivors guilt because of this and the line "Please let me trade, I would" is something that I relate to, if not for my cousin's sake but for that little boy.
    R.I.P. Anthony M. 03/13/1991-02/07/2019 Love you cus.
A couple quick points of information:
It was never said what caused him to go into the coma, at least not to extended family, and we didn't ask
He seemed to be doing fine the last I had heard before he went into the coma, that being said he struggled on and off with relapse so who knows

This video always makes me wonder how many Veterans reenlist because they feel bound to serve some sort of penance for survivor's guilt. I still wish I was able to serve and my heart goes out to all the Veterans and Active Duty personnel who've done so, as well as the Reservists and National Guard who all chose to serve the people in various ways.
