    Thank you for your heart felt reaction:
    I am a Veteran!
    A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life. Regardless of personal political views, that is an Honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact.

    Two important points to add to this video:
    1) Remember that those suicide numbers don't include veterans who die because of addictions which sprung from their service-related issues. And which is yet another thing that's difficult if not impossible to get help for through the VA.
    2) Note that every single time one of the soldiers/veterans in the music video received any form of help, it was from another soldier/veteran. The combat scene, the police officer who notices the unit tattoo, the veteran who literally picks his brother in arms up off the street in the end. That's not too far off the truth.

    • @dolley70
      @dolley70 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      definitely not far from the truth. The VA is there to deny the benefits earned and it is up to the 3rd party organizations to battle for the Veteran, i.e DAV, VFW, Am Legion etc.

      I think part of the reason for the help coming from other soldiers, is that they are the only ones who understand what that person went through. And the general public who isn’t in the military can’t understand that pain. Like for example, after Vietnam, which drafted teenagers who just got out of school, they came back to being shamed and harassed by the general public for doing their jobs, which was mostly not a job by choice, rather than being listened to and being cared for. The people who go to war, will even tell you war is not pretty and it puts a toll on them, one that probably will never get fixed or go away

    • @siraulu1
      @siraulu1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@alechamilton1864 You are exactly correct! We know what no one who hasn't served, knows. Sometimes, if you take the worst nightmare you have ever experienced and multiply that by 100, that is how bad it gets, and sometimes nightly, daily, weekly, ...forever!

    I'm a 59 year old grown man. I am German, not US American. But I cry with you; I cry every time I see this video or hear the song! I did my compulsory term in 81/82, part of it on a tank shooting range in Manitoba, Canada. I was lucky I didn't have to fight in a war, yet. But I am also doing international development aid work for more than 30 years now; I did repeatedly work with ISAF troops in Afghanistan in 2002 to 2004 (which was an easier time than later), and I am covering Iraq now. I got shot at in Afghanistan, and I had the Blackwater guys poke their guns at me as well (fortunately they did ask before they pulled the trigger). So I have at least a glimpse what it means to do this job. And I know that while in Germany the situation isn't as bad as in the US, veterans here and everywhere else in Europe experience similar issues. I was passively involved in a tank shooting accident while stationed in Canada, which resulted in partial hearing loss in my right ear. Upon discharge at the end of my service a couple of months later, I was bluntly told to sign that I was fine again. I was 20 then, university was waiting and I signed. Nothing compared to what is shown in the video, but yes, this is a fact and it is a shame! For the US, for Germany, for every damn bloody country that treats their service women and men as a dispensable resource in a game of power.

      @@briangreen9677 All NATO countries contributed troops to ISAF. NATO actually took command of the mission in 2003. My job was to assist in rebuilding key government institutions (funded by the Asian Development Bank) and support Provincial Reconstruction Teams in selected small projects. For that purpose, I had two teams on the ground, and did missions myself. The PRT were multi-national. As for the German army, they were stationed in the Northern Provinces. If I remember correctly, they took over a US camp in Kunduz in 01/2004 and later in the year one in Faizabad.

    USMC veteran here. I was a grunt/infantry. This song hit me hard when it came out. Listening to it now brought back memories of when I was transitioning to civilian life in the early 2000s. My family didn't understand what I was going through. I was eventually hated, considered "broken", and deemed a failure. To this day, I've kept my distance, whether emotionally or physically, from them.
    I'd likely be homeless too had it not been for good friends who were also veterans. My few good friends helped guide me to stay on the right path. Last year, I retired early from the W2 workforce. A fellow veteran told me about investing my money on assets several years back. Thank God I met him. No matter how many times I see this I can’t hold back the tears. I worried everytime my brother deployed and beyond grateful he returned home safe. My heart and respect goes out to every service member in every branch and their families. What a lot of people don’t know is what the family goes through not only watching their spouse leave but the children having to say goodbye each time. Or the countless times I’ve seen them move to new countries, new states, with each new assignment. A heart felt thank you and so much appreciation to every single service member out there, we can never do enough to repay what you do for all of us.

    Thank You for doing this reaction. Your empathy is shown in your tears, and your sincerity shown in your physical reaction. As a Disabled Veteran, this video hits in so many ways, so much mental chaos between the self and the idea of self, the expectation of the outside and the reality of life, but seeing a Veteran's daughter show so much pride in their father, and knowing he was able to build a life to earn such, makes this world a better place from which to rest in as that is what is hoped for with the sacrifice... that brother and sister next to us, their dreams and aspirations, their family, just as they did for those next to them. Give your dad a hug, remind him of how proud of him you are, let him know how proud we are of him and thanks for his service. There are more of us than you think there are. Many honor the dead that have lived and gave their souls for the glory of their home. Many will never forget that the fires of war claim more than the dead. The fires leave scars on all who endure the worst atrocity that man can do to man…war.
      These scars, some are physical and others can’t be seen. But that doesn’t make them any less real and gripping for the families and the vets who have served.
      For everyone when doesn’t give a shit, who makes you think that the world has locked you in the vault of your own mind, tossed you aside like the leaves from the tree that is society when the turbulence of wind that is suffering rocks it, trying to catch and cast adrift whoever it can. Just know, there are many more out there who will never forget what you have done. Who honor those who have fallen and stand strong shoulder to shoulder to help those who have served rise from their depths of pain and despair.
      We are here. We are watching. We are thankful. And we are never forgetting.

    Don't worry about being emotional when listening to music. Everyone has their various things that they react strongly to. I remember breaking down completely when I watched the video to Spiritbox's Constance simply because it hit close to home for me. I was bawling like a baby.
    This hits very differently. I've spent a year as a conscript but was never on active duty afterward so I've always felt a very faint connection to people who've served in the military. However, I can strongly sympathize with their PTSD. I'm currently seeing a shrink in order to find out if I have it myself after some less-than-pleasant things in my past. It is...not easy to live with. Luckily I have my stuff in some kind of order and am not in any risk of ending up on the street, but I can definitely see how people could end up there without any help.
    Anyway. I'm not a huge fan of FFDP as a band but I can respect what they're doing with songs like this.

    A lot of their songs touch on things NEED to be talked about but most people are too afraid to do so. Five Finger Death Punch: "Coming Down" is a perfect example of this.

      The video for that one is pretty brutal. Especially the beginning

      @@jc2004x definitely is but it has saved my life countless times when I've been in some really dark places.

    I want to say thank you for your video. This song is very emotional for me. Me and my fellow brothers and sisters, in the military. It shows how we go through daily bases in life after we served

    As the son of a Vietnam veteran, this song hits so hard for me. It truly encapsulates what our veterans went through during the 70’s as well as in the 90’s-20’s

    A song that touches EVERYONE that knows it, this is a powerful song from 5FDP and it was my wife’s fathers favorite song. We lost him to cancer, a former military man, THANK YOU TO ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO GIVE THEIR LIVES FOR OUR COUNTRY 🌹🇺🇸
    This band is so much more than music, what they stand for and how the support our troops truly makes them legendary IMO #KNUCKLEHEAD #5FDP

    I truly appreciate you doing this song … I’m a 30 year retired disabled veteran and it truly means lot that you did this song!! Our Veterans deserve so much more than our country provides for them after their service. It’s disheartening that any vet have to suffer in anyway. Much, much ❤️

    As a combat veteran this song always hits home it's a harsh reality that most of us deal with internally because of the things we've seen or done in the name of "freedom"
