    the best part of the AR story, is you can see, with each season, the houses he lives it become less and less grand, started in a grand mansion with a massive room for billards, ended playing it in a dark basement.

      @@jbarnhart2653 I mean, your argument is kind of moot. As you correctly pointed out, this is a fictional work with a basis of history and real people. It never claims to be a documentary, or AFAIK, even "based on a true story". And frankly, we will never know one way or the other what stories the mobsters tell are true, false, or bits of both. You may have noticed most of them like to self-aggrandize their deeds.

      @@Tiabliaj1989 I kind of agree with you. It's like watching CSI and expecting a crime to be "dealt with" in a matter of weeks of show time when at best years in reality.
      All the "interesting" (violent or sexy or...) stuff happens all the time every week.
      Watched some clips, found out how far "Nucky" was from the real thing...lost interest.
      It happens all the time.
      A random example:
      The von Trapps...Maria was a big "haus-frau"and his first wives kids were MUCH older. As described in the play/movie, they're her and his kids.
      Saw the movie enough times to find it interesting and not disturbing, this isn't that bad, but did keep me from getting into it...

    HBO had a great thing going with "Boardwalk Empire," but then they got impatient and rushed it to conclusion. They had such a strong character like Rothstein, but didn't give him the dignity and respect of a proper demise. They simply said, in the final season, "Too bad about AR." more or less, skipping forward past his demise.

    • @Nougatocity6
      @Nougatocity6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They didn’t rush, the show was essentially cancelled. After season 4 HBO told them they had one season left to wrap it up when the showrunner thought he’d have way more seasons for some ungodly reason. They could’ve easily told a good story in 5 seasons but they wasted so much time in seasons 3 and 4, so I blame the writers instead of HBO

    • @skullsaintdead
      @skullsaintdead 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Just fyi, cue balls are sometimes (not always) heavier than the coloured balls, plus being a little bigger. *However*, if they are in regular use, they'll be worn down and lose weight and size. So, there might be an additional layer to the story, being that Rothstein knew the ball he would hand the gentleman was new and therefore, larger than the used balls he'd swallowed before. Tbh, the story feels a little cruel for Rothstein, at least in Boardwalk, he shouldn't really be this malevolent. The writing probably should of included something about the man swindling the patrons of the hall and Rothstein becoming quietly enraged by the claims, because people would spend less money at his establishments.

The fact of the matter is Frankie Yale was a straight up killer. He didn’t answer to anyone and had a ton of power and respect himself. His Black Handers gang was ruthless. He himself consolidated immense power in Brooklyn New York and Chicago to some extent. If AR actually talked to him like this, Frankie would have beat him to
    A bloody pulp. Which Frankie had done many times throughout his life. Both Yale and AR died at the end of gun. Yale was hit by Capone for robbing Capones trucks, AR’s murderer was never caught nor did anyone claim the hit either.

    Makes sense. However, I have a hard time believing that Yale would of went all the way to Chicago to pull that off if Masseria wasn't in on it. Historically, we don't have all the facts of who ordered what. Al Capone and Yale were involved directly. Torrio was also a mentor of Frankie Yale... even if Masseria was unaware, I don't think AR or even Masseria could plug him easily with his strong connections to Capone and Torrio.

      @@jaroncreed Colosimo was whacked in 1920, before the Commission existed. He ran the Chicago family. There was no one above him, he answered to no one.
      The nationwide Commission was created by Sal Maranzano, in 1930. Sal declared himself the Capo de tutti Capi, Boss of Bosses, and didn't last long, murdered in 1931.

    It's a another great scene from an awesome show. However, historically, I don't understand how this scene makes any sense. Frankie Yale was without a doubt a major player in the underworld. He was Al Capone's former boss for crissakes. He had his own crew of men. It makes no sense that AR could just strong arm him like that for information...especially if he had Chicago backing him and protecting him.

  • @dr2stroke611

    Cue balls are larger on coin operated tables as it stops them falling through the collector for the other balls , thats why the cue ball always stays on the table. Not sure if coin-op tables were a thing back then as i guess most billiard halls are membership only

    • @koDaffi
      @koDaffi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah before coin operated you rented the table so you would go up and pay to get the balls. It's still like that in some halls.
