This commercial and the jingle from my childhood in the '50s and '60s stuck with me. To this day I say the "you're Out Of Schlitz" slogan regularly to mean "you're Out Of Luck" all the time. I loved that commercial. Schlitz was gooood beer!
I was just a kid when this came on TV over and over. What a classic! Same year that Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon. "When your out of Schlitz, you're out of beer" burned into my mind permanently.
SHLITZ is back to it's original recipe !!!!!! The formula they used back when they sold more than Bud. Shlitz is quite different from PBR, Miller etc. It has a slight ale taste to it. YOU GOTTA TRY IT
oldiesgeek1 Go to the biggest liquor store you can find. You might find it. Also do not take the word of sales staff if they say they don't have it. Look yourself. Often there is only like two 6 packs in stock when you can find it.
Sadly, after Col. Blake drank that Schlitz, he departed on a cargo plane from Seol to Tokyo; unfortunately a Mig-15 intercepted them over the sea of Japan; the place was hit; it spun in; ....there were no survivors.
The recipe that they resurrected was as close as they could get it they had to find old brew masters and Documentation it wasn't very well stored. The reason lost worst places could stupid family members it took over the brewery had no idea what to do in a literally ran the brand into the ground.
This is a great alternative ending to this ad; Billboard says "Hours later...." then we see a drunk McLean trying to say, "When you're out of Schliz, you're out of beer". He played a superb drunk during those moments in MASH when Col Blake had a few too many.
There was another Schlitz jingle that I've never been able to find. It goes: Let's get together with a glass of Schlitz, a friendly glass of Schlitz. Brewed with pride and just a kiss of the hops, puts real gusto into every drop. So lets get together with a glass of Schlitz, a friendly glass of Schlitz. Real gusto in a great light beer. Anyone ever heard this one?
Schlitz had some amazing commercials back then!!! Schlitz gets a terrible rep because of the name but if I actually see at it Mobil around here I'll buy a few. I think it has a pretty good taste and for one of those high gravity beers I don't feel like I drank the trash can the morning after.
Ha yeah this commercial reminded me exactly of that scene in the town with no name. I'm surprised I didn't mention that in the video. I just rambled about how it was a decent beer all things considered.
Negative. This Schlitz ad aired during Super Bowl III, on January 12, 1969. So in actuality, it would've been produced in late 1968. It appeared in the 4th quarter after Jim Turner's field goal for the Jets made it 16-0.

Schlitz is one of the best tasting beers out there. Schlitz has a much fuller taste than other macros out there.
His beer went down in the Sea of Japan. It spun in...there were no survivors.
Including his career!

Schlitz has brought back its 1960's recipe. Maybe they should run this ad again.
The recipe that they resurrected was as close as they could get it they had to find old brew masters and Documentation it wasn't very well stored.
