The first time he watched a speedrun of Eternal he seemed so like. Offended, like in a funny way but still it seemed like he legitimately didn't 'get it' from a player perspective, so it's fascinating to see how his perspective has changed since then.
@@MastaDRD i mean you make the stuff and you see the stuff done in a "wrong way" but then you learn people enjoy do Crazy shit also... doesn't matter if you fix it... people will figure out a new way to break it again.
Id software actually did this before like quake hopping they saw how popular it was so they kept it in in the future quake games

I hope the ID team includes "speedrun strats" in the next DoomSlayer adventure as sometimes the speedrun feels really badass
Doom Eternal no glitch runs are both the way the devs wanted you to play and also something they never knew was possible.
The fun thing about speedrunning in general is that you don't have to deliberately develop anything for it. You only need to make the game and then have people in your fanbase who are determined in breaking it.
basically Arcade mode just add more score condition like best time, best kill, best score etc.
All game devs should be like Hugo.
The fact that he is so active in the community is just so awesome.

@@ModernDOOMSpeedrunning you should totally ask them about the problems with the season 1 rerun packs. You can get all of the stuff in them but it doesn’t save and will make you do it again and again endlessly. I think I’ve counted at least 200 times this has happened to me now, and I’m not the only one

secretly devs love speedrunners... it shows huge dedication to the game, no one makes speedrun strats to games they don't like.
Imagine putting all of those combat encounters in perfect areas where people will struggle
And just see people pass them like their just trees in a express way
The Doom community is so wholesome. I love this game.
There has never been a dev as publicly active in his/her community like hugo. serious hats off to this guy. hes damn near a streamer at this point, love the energy.. oh and on top of that, he pretty much has spear headed the development of what i would consider the greatest fps shooter ever made. dude and his team are forreal legends.
Watching Hugo Martin streams always brings me joy.

Hugo gave the best answer to the question of "Do you intend to fix these exploits".
Of course he isn't, which normal player would even think of doing this? I certainly wouldn't, I'm having too much fun with the battles and those aren't broken. Like who cares that you can jump over the whole level using the ballista and the slo mo from the weapon wheel, it doesn't affect the normal playthrough and those who play the game normally don'T lose anything from this existing.
Yeah i think they could stop changing things, and just focus on master levels and battlemode. The game is playable and fun always

These runs are so immensely impressive. It does make me feel bad though. Like, I thought I was good at the game for being able to beat it, the dlcs and master levels numerous times on Nightmare.

Hugo understands that if a glitch isn’t game breaking and most likely won’t affect the casual player, and even high level players, and that you have to actually know how to do it and set it up to do it, it doesn’t really need to be removed

I like Hugo a little more than Sakurai.
Sakurai is still awesome, he understands the Smash community.
But Hugo IS the DOOM community. Need I say more.
I think sakurai loves smash, but not sure if he understands the greater community at large. He put 6 fire emblem charecters in for himself and there isnt much of a western side to the charecters, which is honestly the biggest let down to me.
Remember, Hugo did Doomguy's mocap. He IS the Doomslayer, it's canon.

I try to use similar techniques in Rage 2 to scale things like I would use jump into a Vortex, then Grav Jump, and then Slam, it is also useful when going down things to prevent yourself from just fucking dying

Goddamn, we know now for sure, that they will be doing the things right! I liked Eternal's art and gameplay direction more than 2016, thats my most big fear for the next Doom game, but they will do it just fine with people like Hugo
