I thought the exact same thing! Plus the fact that a minor plot point of the movie revolves around a winkies diner made me certain that the film was inspired by Lynch’s work, because of the famous mulholland drive scene
What's important to remember about Saturday Night Fever is that there were two versions released. An R rated version that I'm assuming the cast are referring to and a much more stripped down and family friendly PG-rated version.

Great film suggestions. Showgirls is my favorite cult classic of all time. Yes, it is really flawed, but it's so enjoyable for it's flaws, and the Las Vegas camp is so fun that I can't help but keep rewatching it.
