    Neat video. I have a Diamondback HD with the two doors on my F450. I went with a Weatherguard in bed tool box that fits under the cover nicely. I also leave my 5th wheel hitch in the bed all the time now, also fits under the cover nicely. During camping season it takes about 10 minutes to take the cover off and i am ready to slide under the camper without losing my tool storage and security. The 1600lb capacity above the cover means i always have a full 8ft bed to store whatever if i don't have a trailer behind me. I use it for tractor implements when i have my tractor in the dump trailer. Thanks for the content. I don't think we live too far from each other, i'm down between Bloomington and Champaign.

      Thanks for the share Phil I thought about a bed box like you have so it would come in and out easier but I think I like being able to slide plywood under the cross bin especially since the GMC short bed is only 6'10" I don't currently own anything with a gooseneck or a 5th wheel so I shouldn't have to take it off at all. I'm looking forward to being able to keep gear and equipment dry in the back!

    Nice video, very informative. Is it possible to have the rear part of the cap lifted slightly while driving? I have hunting dogs I keep in a crate, and like them to get some air while driving down the road on warm days.

    Great Job. As a new truck owner aren't you worried about putting holes in the bed of your truck and is there anything that you did extra to try to help prevent rust from the holes after installation?

    • @buildlife
      @buildlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've had allot of trucks so the new wears off fast. I guess I'm more excited about the cover than worried about the holes. I have never had a problem with rust in holes on the bed rails in other trucks so I didn't worry about it. If I were drilling into the face of the fender or something I'd get some touch up paint and hit the holes but those nut certs would probably grind that out anyways.

    Very informative video and well filmed and produced. Have you had any water leakage after heavy rains?
    Can't decide between the 270 like you have or the SE version. My concern is the 270 with the three lids that open may be prone to leak more than the two lid SE. Thanks for your video and information!

      @@buildlife Thanks for the great install vid! For your 270, have you had any issues with the multi function gate with water leaks around the seams or problems after opening/closing the gate without opening the 270 cover?
      I'm torn between the HD and the 270... after driving it a couple years... what are your thoughts on the 270 now?

    • @buildlife
      @buildlife  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a fine cover. I maybe get a shot glass of water through the car wash but I bet that would be fixed easy with a little adjustment. It's a pretty simple design so pretty rock solid. Tool box can't handle a million lbs but id does well too. The only problem I have with the tail gate is it won't go down with the cover closed. You have to lift the cover a little to get the tail gate down so if you like to do it with the button from inside it won't work.

    Just one comment relative to the DB 270; all the shock struts are not rated the same. (4) are 60 lbs. for the smaller side hatches and (2) are rated at 80 lbs. for the rear hatch.

    Why don’t they use carriage bolts on the hinges so someone can’t take the hinges off to break in? Seems like an easy swap. Wondering why they didn’t design them that way.

    • @buildlife
      @buildlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to flip the door all the way open to slide the hinges off so if it's locked you can't. Also hard to get the hinge bolts out if you can't get a wrench on the nut inside.

    • @thepokerpilotapp
      @thepokerpilotapp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@buildlife but if BOTH sides of the hinges are removed is there not nothing left affixing the cover to the center piece. Upon further thought, what if you simply removed one half of the hinge from the center piece. Would you not be able to lift the cover completely off?

  • @---tx9xx

    Can the 270 rear panel be folded back flat for use of the rear for tall objects ? Can it be easily removed separately? (I know the se and hd can)

    • @buildlife
      @buildlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      The struts won't let it fold all the way back unless you disconnect them. When you fold it all the say back the hinges unhook. Would have to set it aside so you couldn't drive with it like that but it comes off pretty easy.

  • @---tx9xx
    @---tx9xx ปีที่แล้ว

    • @buildlife

    Do any rails have to be installed that stay in the car when you temporrarily remove it?

    • @buildlife
      @buildlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a few brackets. If you want the "T" removed that is the frame for the doors you have to undo the clamps. Most of the time I just take off the big lid and that's enough.
