Rules
• Battles are included only if they have a Wikipedia article
• Each country can only have 1 predecessor state at the same time (eg. the UK's predecessor is England, but not Scotland)
Methodology:
I used Wikipedia as a directory of battles:
1. I created a query with Wikidata Query to get the list of all articles tagged as "battle" by Wikipedia. This gives me about 12,000 battles
2. I downloaded the data that is included in the top right hand table of every of those Wikipedia article. I did it for the following versions of Wikipedia: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Greek, Turkish, Serbo-Croatian, Japanese, Danish, Norwegian, Slovakian, Dutch, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Hindi, Hebrew, Basque, Bulgarian, Romanian, Catalan, Finnish, Swedish, Vietnamese, Persian, Indonesian, Korean
3. I cleaned up the data on Excel to remove double entries :

It is the case only since 2004. It comes from the USA and the UK trying to justify the invasion of Irak to their people. Since France opposed this invasion in the UN, their heavy propaganda, mostly in the USA, ended up saying "France doesn't want to support us in Irak because they are the cowards who surrendered in WWII". It was about bringing discredit to a country that had quite possibly the largest diplomatic network in the world, and opposed a war waged for the sake of stealing oil for private corporations' interests. This is why the globalisation of the english language is one of the worst curses this world was inflicted with. Because even you ended up biting on their lies. This language is a massive vector for them to spread propaganda and rewriting History.

Whilst fighting the Italian invasion in second world war a French machine gun squad of three or so men caused over 3,000 casualties in a single battle. The French aren’t cowards, if anything they’re idiots for believing Erwin Rommel and surrendering thinking they had already been defeated. It’s really just a weird clusterfuck and the Nazi’s getting “lucky”. Germany is the country with some of the worst history and losses yet still look good doing it. In WW2, Germany took ridiculous risks and it somehow worked basically.

What basically happened is that their name changed and so did their form of government. On the other hand, the Confederates were just pro-slavery revolutionaries who successfully declared their independence from the United States, meaning that the Confederates technically weren't Americans as the Confederation was a different entity from the United States.

That's pretty much that. But truth be told, we have been invaded much more often than the other way around. From the early Middle Ages to the 1st Hundred Years War. From the Habsbourgs Empire to the 2nd Hundred Years War (both against the UK). From 1871's provocation by Bismark, to the World War in 1914, and then, to the 2nd Schlieffen plan in 1940. We always had 2 empires plotting against us, oftentimes together: the UK and the various forms of Germany. I guess that almost half of our victories are against these 2.

To be fair, it's likely what constitutes as a battle changes. So, a battle for the romans is different from a battle for America.

They fought in Africa, participated to D day and liberation of France. Also the 400000 French Interiors forces aka the resistance.... hundreds of cases where the French soldiers did not surrender, the most famous were « les cadets de la saumure » where a piece of French soldiers was totally surrounded by Germans, the Germans were so impressed by the bravery of these soldiers that they gave them a guard of honor. There is also the battle of Dunkirk where French soldiers also saved British’s ass. The only one who surrendered was the politics and the government

Bro, Italy and Greece share more than 300 battles won each throughout their history, and I am pretty sure back then, it was more of a live or die thing.. not battles like the French and English won on paper.. or by the fear of the enemy..

The problem with the video is that it is based on the English wiki - where a skirmish between confederates and yankee will be considered a "battle". Whereas other countries history is not so detailed. I am pretty sure Russia or Italy or Byzantine empire had enough "skirmishes" that are not registered and can be considered a "battle"

Yeah I find it hard to believe SPQR had so few battles won considering how vast the empire was and how many tribes that attacked the boarders and rebelled on an almost yearly basis.
U got the point. Another example is the Papal State, with only 15 victories if I m right whereas these guys fought a lot during the Middle Age and the Renaissance. Just thinks about how many battles a guy like Cesare Borgia engaged in.
