      Not for long, but for that time period it was pretty insane, there were numerous massive empires before Rome though, Armenia, The Ottoman Empire (lasted for 700 years), Sassanid Empire, Kush, Egypt and many other Middle Eastern/Persian empires lasted hundreds of years.

Remember, these were all *Empires* (no Republics/City states) which were established centuries before Rome was even properly settled (the last 4 were established whole millenniums before Rome was a thing), and they all lasted as long if not even longer than Rome in their status of an Empire.

      @MrDodo Germany didn't fight a defensive war, it was Austria-Hungary who attacked Russia's ally, little Serbia, because a Serbian nationalist shot the Austrian Hungarian monarch. The Russians attacked A-H for invading their ally, and Germany declared war on Serbia and Russia. France joined against Germany and A-H because Germany was attacking France's important ally, Russia. The war kept raging on until Germany attacked Belgium to go around France's defenses and thus The UK declared war on Germany for attacking a neutral country. Also about the US, they kept supplying the allies so Germany sent a telegram to Mexico, basically telling Mexico to attack America. The UK found the ship carrying Germany's message so they showed it to the US. The US then declared war on Germany.
      Austria Hungary deserved what it got, not their people but A-H themselves

The old confederation of the swiss cantons (an union of very small states), which has its origin probably in 1291, was technically part of the holy roman empire until 1648. After that the old confederation was somewhat independent. In 1799 they got invaded by Napoleon/france which formed the helvetic republic out of the cantons. After the downfall of Napoleon, the cantons got their neutrality guaranteed in 1814 at the Congress of Vienna. It was done to have a buffer zone between austria, italy, germany and france. After some Dispute and a short civil war between the cantons, the country as we know today was finally created in 1848.

      Yes, because roman armies march in legions, so it takes time to reach big distances and then you need to subjugate the living population under roman rule. Germany had planned for their invasion for six years from 1933 to 1939 and then Hitler went to execute his plans, but he made some military blunders, like letting the soviets surround his big army in Stalingrad without holding the lines well. Wasting soldiers fighting against in Russia in winter and he should have started his war operations against Russia in april, so thats how he was also defeated quickly with his military blunders.

      @@jout738 The biggest sin Hitler committed was trusting the English after absolutely decimating the soviet army, which was ready to invade Europe. He protected Europeans as a whole. Instead of thanks however, the Germans had to suffer the weight of the entire world. Capitalists helped the communists to get their war machine operational again - they provided them with all the iron, oil and capital they needed.
      Then, capitalists and marxists joined hands to destroy Germany. It took them six years to destroy a nation the size of Texas. They call this a 'victory.'
      Capitalism and marxism are two sides of the same coin; and because National Socialism posed a threat to both of these soul-crushing systems it had to die.
      Now, through movies and peculiar publishers, we are being told by 'gods chosen people' that the Germans wanted to lord over us as a masterrace. Absolutely ludicrous.

      The competition between these nations forced innovation and change. For good or bad it brought civilization to the rest of the world.
      We should let Africa and the Middle East work out there own problems, eventually they to will become more civilized.

      dugclrk They became a leader because they waged war and increased in warfare. They increased in warfare because of greed and Tyrant kings, leaders and religion. I wouldn't say that was being civilized. Africa and the Middle East have nothing to do with it. We all come from the same continent. Also Middle East is also part of the evolution of humanity because of water and boats and the Middle East also Includes Africa. Its a sole reason the Roman Empire Ruled a lot of it. People think that Romans just ruled Europe when really they ruled both the northern part of africa and majority europe. Their boats help them travel and trade easier. We haven't become civilized until the past few centuries when capitalism has been embraced more. And think about it. The last century we have had the most deadliest 2 wars in human history. WW1 and WW2. Over the lack of faith of capitalism. You can thank the U.S. for showing europe how to be a real modern day civilization.

    • @bouncycastle955
      @bouncycastle955 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      You wouldn't say that was civilized? Then you don't know what civilization is. We all come from the same continent, yes, but we have continued to evolve since then. We aren't the same people anymore. You think water and boats come from the middle east? lol. The middle east does not include Africa, it includes a very small portion of Africa. People like to blame conquering civilizations for the problems of the conquered but Europe recovered fine... Again, if you think we didn't become civilized until a couple hundred years ago, you simply don't know what civilization means. You think WWI and WWII had something to do with capitalism? Time to lay down the crack pipe, friend, you're embarrassing yourself.

    • @numerical25
      @numerical25 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      bouncy house I said modern civilization that exist today, not a century ago. Oh yeah, WW1 and 2 happened because of the lack of understanding of capitalism. WW1 mainly because europe still based their economy off of colonialism. They called WW1 the death of empires for a reason. Germany in WW2 based their economy off of National Socialism. Hitler believed in a militant economy which is why almost all young men were raised to be Nazi soldiers. And most of the economy was based jobs that contributed to the army. Which is why Nazi germany was so advanced in warfare. Hitler believed in Total War. If you don't understand colonization and how it affected European Economy for centuries then dont even argue with me. Hitler and Napolean looked up to kings who were colonist and they based their beliefs off of it. Britain gave up on being a empire once they understood a capitalist society a century ago. And still they have one of the strongest economies in Europe once they realized colonization was not a necessity and they gave up their colonies. the U.S. is the biggest leaders in modern day civilization, because the U.S. set the example for modern day capitalism.

      For example, the loss of life in four European wars:the French wars of religion, 3 million people ; 30 Years War, 8 million people ; the Napoleonic wars(+Revolutionary wars), 5 million people ; WW1, 16 million people.
      The first three wars mentioned together equal the numbers of WW1 (imagine adding all the wars in history). And in general, the 30 Years War is probably the war that killed the largest part of the European population, above even WW2 (40 million death in Europe, but in a very populated Europe).

      @@navneetyadav7139 I understand your point, and regarding military casualties you're not totally wrong. But I think you just underestimated the civilian casualties. In the past war could bring famines and disease (aside from good old massacres) on a big scale.
      I also only counted European deaths (which includes Russians) for WW2 because I only compared with European wars. If all the wars of humanity before WW1/2 are counted, the body count of both WWs will be totally exceeded by the combined older wars for sure.
      WW1 (17 million) + WW2 (70 million, a lot of civilians) would make like 87 million people dead. With just the Mongol invasions (40-50 million people), the An Lushan rebellion (disputed, at least around 10 millions), the Taiping Civil War (between 20 and 40 million) and the fall of Ming china (around 20 million), it's already exceeded. Yeah using China's deadliest wars makes it easier.
      But once again, you're not totally wrong because in terms of military death (that died in actual combat), it's another matter entirely and the WWs are unmatched yeah. And indeed WW1 and WW2 are just 4 years + 6 years of war.

      THE TURKS AND THE WEST.
      Europe stood in awe of the Ottomans who crushed many states and conquered vast territories, going, as all patriotic Turks will proudly point out, "all the way to the gates of Vienna." European literature is replete with the depictions of the Turk as the hated enemy. The English often thought of the Turk as awe-inspiring and destructive. Thomas Fuller wrote in The Holy Warre (1639): "The Turkish Empire is the greatest... the sun ever saw. ...Grass springeth not where the grand signior's horse setteth his foot."

It was part of a treaty that some french soldiers could guard the spanish ports to stop the british smugglers and to prevent any landing in Spain by the British Army. But some brigands, desertors, prisoners and fanatics started to massacre every major of Spanish cities to bring anarchy, started to kill all the people loyal to the King and any authority, started to kill all the french soldiers defending their ports. So Napoléon sent troops to Madrid to stop the anarchists, proposed the Spanish King and some parliamentarians to hide in Bayonne (France) and started negociations to make revolutionary reforms in Spain to please those insurgents, but in peace. Those insurgents/anarchists didn't want peace, they started to kill all the spanish honest civilians who were opposed to anarchy, so the french army marched on whole Spain.
