Hey Morgan, I got it fixed and I can't believe it. Thought I would tell you in case you run across a similar issue. The banjo bolts on this bike aren't cross drilled. There's only one fluid port drilled in to the banjo region. Reddit for the win, the theory is IF the bolt lands in such an orientation that the fluid port is pointing towards the brake line that the air pocket behind it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to bleed out. Changing nothing else, I cross drilled the banjo bolts, stuck them back in and the brake pumped up immediately. Just in from a test ride around my main loop a few times and it's fine. Who knew?!
Well I pull and service the bendix every 70 ish hours. Hope that helps me. On a good side note we did burn down a sherco this weekend. Melted the top end in a sand wash!
@highlandcycles lot of people I know don't ever service their starter systems unless something breaks. I've heard The original ktm bushings arnt great and can cause serious damage if left for too long. I upgraded to brass. Also curious your opinion on servicing the bendix, I've read that it shouldn't be cleaned and oiled, wondering if that's true or not. Would be nice to keep the bendix fresh and not have to replace every 150h for example.
When I first saw this i thought about the video i just saw stating ktm only runs 1mm between piston and crank I assume at BDC. He said they shave a little off pistons.
El Cheapo bushings probably got it going in the wrong direction, I put XRC bushings in every other year on my 16'. Same thing happened to me on my third ride when I picked up my bike from the dealer....was freaked that the motor blew....nope a $5 bushing
I think that the stupid combo start stop button that we all actually accidentally pressed start with the engine running is a likely contributor to this failure. I am going to check my bendix for issues.
Just had mine fail to start. Not sure what the issue is. 55 hours in and out on a ride hit the starter, nothing. Shifted to neutral and tried again and it fired. Rode a bit stopped and went to restart and it rolled over but wouldn't start. Managed to bump start it but it won't catch off the starter button. Real wet ride but couldn't find anything suspect for water shorts. Throwing a code, that I think might be suggesting coolant temp sensor? That doesn't seem like something that would stop the bike from starting so off to the dealer for a look see.
@@highlandcycles Dealer is telling me fuel filter. Seems to be an issue for KTM as there are several bikes having this issue and they are sensitive to changes in fuel pressure. I wonder if the design contributes to that or if it can be attributed to the manufacturing process of the tanks and not cleaning them out before assembly of the bike. Or just crap gas.

Changing nothing else, I cross drilled the banjo bolts, stuck them back in and the brake pumped up immediately. Just in from a test ride around my main loop a few times and it's fine. Who knew?!
Love it!
I am happy to! Ktm are bullet proof! 👍🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
are you a biden voter , just asking for a friend
Hey, im soon gonna rebuild my front forks. What is your opinion on KYB seals? Or should i just get SKF seals? My forks are 2021 wp xact
Get SKF
Well I pull and service the bendix every 70 ish hours. Hope that helps me. On a good side note we did burn down a sherco this weekend. Melted the top end in a sand wash!
Awesome 🤣😂
what exactly do you "Service", when you pull it? I have about 65 hrs on mine
@@mschumaker1 remove, clean the side case with brake clean. Grease bendix, teeth of stater, grease bushing for bendix and reinstall
Doesn't the owners manual recommend that?
@@westcomotofilms3865 thanks this is my 3rd KTM and ive never done that, ran each bike to almost 200 hrs no issues with that before tho
Will check out my Bendix (2022 ex250)
Do you think a good video would be servicing the starter system?
Yep
@highlandcycles lot of people I know don't ever service their starter systems unless something breaks. I've heard The original ktm bushings arnt great and can cause serious damage if left for too long. I upgraded to brass. Also curious your opinion on servicing the bendix, I've read that it shouldn't be cleaned and oiled, wondering if that's true or not. Would be nice to keep the bendix fresh and not have to replace every 150h for example.
The bendex failed in my 23 xc300 around 12 hrs
Damn
Morgan I’ve got 40 hours on my 23’ TX300. Do you think I should upgrade my starter bushings with Tokyo’s now or wait? Thx
Do it now
A kickstarter is a handy invention ain't it....
Oh man I wish I had one. It wouldn’t have started until I got that thing out of there v
have you replaced the starter bushes with bronze ones?
Nope, but they are on the way
Awesome news!!! Don't they make a thing...what do you call it? Oh yeah...a KICKSTART!!! Laughing with you, not at you.😅
😂🤣
When I first saw this i thought about the video i just saw stating ktm only runs 1mm between piston and crank I assume at BDC. He said they shave a little off pistons.
I was worried about that
Best case scenario👍🏼
That's great news!!!
Hi I have a sherco that starts with spark for on sec then dies any idea?
Huh, that’s weird. Check stator?
El Cheapo bushings probably got it going in the wrong direction, I put XRC bushings in every other year on my 16'. Same thing happened to me on my third ride when I picked up my bike from the dealer....was freaked that the motor blew....nope a $5 bushing
Yeah. I ordered the XRC ones.
It’s gonna heap of oil leaking out of the silencer does that mean it’s a bit rich and tuning wise or doesn’t really matter
It’s always been rich. It runs perfectly.
It would be handy if it had a kick starter.
I think KTM has made a mistake removing them.
I agree
This is why I am switching to a Rieju 300. Kickstart, carb and KYB suspension . What was good in the past is still good.
I think that the stupid combo start stop button that we all actually accidentally pressed start with the engine running is a likely contributor to this failure. I am going to check my bendix for issues.
It would be but I switched mine out for separate switches from MotoMinded
What a relief! Guess I better service mine.
Definitely
Just had mine fail to start. Not sure what the issue is. 55 hours in and out on a ride hit the starter, nothing. Shifted to neutral and tried again and it fired. Rode a bit stopped and went to restart and it rolled over but wouldn't start. Managed to bump start it but it won't catch off the starter button. Real wet ride but couldn't find anything suspect for water shorts. Throwing a code, that I think might be suggesting coolant temp sensor? That doesn't seem like something that would stop the bike from starting so off to the dealer for a look see.
No. This isn’t that problem unfortunately
@@highlandcycles Bendix doesn't seem so bad, especially finding it right away eh!?
@@highlandcycles Dealer is telling me fuel filter. Seems to be an issue for KTM as there are several bikes having this issue and they are sensitive to changes in fuel pressure. I wonder if the design contributes to that or if it can be attributed to the manufacturing process of the tanks and not cleaning them out before assembly of the bike. Or just crap gas.
I'm guessing it didn't disengage causing it to overheat and shred the bushing and what ever else. You're thinking the same?
Yes
I was thinking bendix!
Well, I went for it over the pond! Came up short , cased it! My race ended in about 30 seconds 😂
🤣😂
Hi I’m currently on a very lazy and linear KTM 200 that I ride hard enduro on. Now I’m looking at a TPI 250 next however that certainly is not as lazy and linear. So I’m considering a fly wheel or clutch weight but I’ve heard fly wheel weights are more effective( from you ) but also heard they cause vibrations.
Please advise me on which one or a different solution (keeping in mind budget)
Would be greatly appreciated 🙏
I’ve never felt a flywheel weight make more vibes. I would go that way
@@highlandcyclesthanks a million much appreciated
My ‘23 300 XC bendix just failed as well… with only 16 hours on the bike. Definitely seems like a parts quality issue.
Damn
Good news !
Totally
Glad it was a minor fix. Sorry to hear about the race. How many hours on the bendix?
165
@@highlandcycles that’s impressive!
@@The_Snowbike_Channel lol
Coulda took the bendix out of the xcw to check 🤷🏼♂️ but judging by those pushes for the bumpstart you did no harm by getting the exercise 😂
Good content Morgan 🤙
Hahahaba.
My legs just don’t work that well anymore unless I’m on two wheels. Bicycle or moto.
I broke the Bendix on my 2021 at around 80 hrs by hitting starter and kill at same time
I'm guessing a simple seized piston.
I glad that's all it was
Couple ounces of oil was the preventive maintenance!
🤘🤘 i felt the relief!
Yeah
Glad it was the lesser of the evils. You'll be back in business quickly.
Yep
I'm guessing it's push rod number 5😊
