Honda XL750 Transalp Review | Worth The Hype?

  • The new Honda XL750 Transalp is a middle weight adventure bike, designed to cover big miles on and off road. It has been over 10 years since the last Transalp, so has the wait been worth it and can the new Transalp live up to the hype?
The same engine as the new Honda Hornet, has proven to be very good. Perhaps the new Transalp XL750 is better than the Africa Twin. Here are my review and thoughts on the new middle weight adventure bike.

I got mine in May and it has blown me away. What a great bike! The engine is a peach. The bike is so flickable and it feels light. Weight distribution is great. The quickshifter is sublime. I am so happy about my choice. I already shed off further weight by removing the rear rack as I only use soft bags. Also looking so much better without the rack. Induction sound while being high in the revs is magnificent. Guys, try this bike first before jumping to conclusions.

Thanx for the nice & informative review!
The long awaited legend has finally returned. Allready a lucky owner of the TA 650 2005 & the mighty Crosstourer DCT 2019. Got to testride it here in Scandinavia and the overall impressions are positive.
    The best Transalp to date.
    Pros:
    Its a Honda!
Classy apperence, fun, comfortable, ergonomics, handling, nimble, punchy engine & great sound, Weight, 21/18, 6speed, fully leadlights, robust suspension with Adequat travel & ground clearence, accessable seatheight, enough electronics, self cancelling blinkers, emergency breaklights, blinkers as extra lights & plenty of accessories available.
Most can be added including tubeless, cruise control & fully adjustable suspension its matter of cash.
    Cons:
No: DCT, air temprature indicator, fuel milage indicator before empty, adjustable windscreen, wing emblem. Welded subframe, low muffler, airfilters under the tank & the final price cost after adding all nessesary gadgets & accesories.
    The Power Of Dreams ❤

There’s too much missing! I love these throw back to the 80’s bikes but I want the benefits of modern day bikes (ABS, cruise control & distance left in tank & QS/DCT). I can’t help but think they will create a model to run alongside this with all the bits some people want (including tubeless tyres). 🤞🏻 Stock Hondas do sound great these days.

The big glaring weakness is tubed tyres. Get a puncture and it’s wheel off and fix the inner tube. In reality most of us will call the breakdown services. Suzuki did the same with the 800DE but I reckon they will rectify that with an ADV style cast wheel option.

My ATAS DCT was uncomfortable, both the seat and riding position (I’m your height) with the sort of handling associated with the 21” wheel. Others, like the Tiger 900 and KTM 890 Adventure are much sharper with same 21” wheel. I’d have given the Transalp a go for comfort and lower weight but it’s deficiencies are such that my 890 will be safe for a while yet. Still enjoying it where the Honda at the same stage (6 months and 2,500 miles) had lost it’s appeal other than it’s great looks and presence.

That 21” front wheel is an interesting choice by Honda, but much appreciated. Why one can’t have cruise control, even as an option, is a really peculiar choice. I would have liked to be the fly on the wall in the Honda board meeting where cruise control was

@@redangrevivalI barely use cruise in my truck because the flow of traffic is always changing and constantly turning cruise off and on. I’ve never had it on a bike but I’ve never felt like I needed or wanted it either but to each their own I guess

ok, Which bike to I get? Money no object. 6 month trip -- 15,000 miles -- 60% on and 40% off-road. Third world countries in South America adventure. Transalp or Africa Twin? I am 5'9" so dropping a bike is normal in off-road and I have to pick it up.

All show and no go, in my opinion. There are certain things you can't compromise on, on adventure bikes. The market these days, is to tight, you cant afford to compromise on options. Otherwise, you might as well call this new Trans Alp, The Great Pretender.

    • @redangrevival
      @redangrevival  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Fair enough. However I really enjoyed the ride, refreshing to have an adventure bike that doesn't weight a ton! Just found the lack of cruise control mighty annoying.

Shame there's no Cruise Control. I think some of the decisions manufacturers make to keep the prices down are a bit iffy but it must be difficult deciding what to include and what to drop in order to compete with other brands, but not with your own.
Or maybe we're all just too pampered these days! 😂

I think honda will probably do the same as they did with the CB 500 X, ie bring out a really good platform then slowly refine it over the years. In theory, they could do a full on 'adv' touring version right now, with cruise, fully adjustable suspension, tubeless rims, adjustable screen, proper protection etc. but this will bump the price up considerably and may pull sales away from the Atwin. Far better to do a more focused range of bikes...Yamaha have done this with the T7, Rally, World raid, and Explorer editions, Triumph with the Tiger 900 GT and Rally, and Suzuki with the new Strom 800DE plus a cast rim 19/17 version. Should be interesting to see what the aftermarket comes up with for the TA though...good time to be in the market for a 'middleweight' all rounder :)
