Just did this to my ZX7 a few days ago. It had an intermittent "no crank" Seemed like every other press of the button did nothing. Thanks for sending me in the right direction with the repair! It actually comes apart and goes back together quite easily. Anyway, Thanks Again!

Thanks for the video. I had kinda the same issue on another bike, with a clutch sensor underneath clutch level. Grease got on contacts and didn't let bike start. Cleaned contacts and started up.

Nice one Frank, Greetings from Down Under. I had same trouble with a 2000 model ZX12R. Spent heaps trying to sort out why no go. Even sprayed contact cleaner in that switch, but eventually had a closer look and spotted a bit of corrosion on the locating screws inside starter button and thought this looks promising for rusted contacts, sure enough, that's what it was all along. Cheers.

Oh wow oh my God I just stumbled across this video and I've already sunk only 50 bucks on a new starter but hopefully it won't be any more than that cuz I haven't actually tested the starter but now that I got the same exact click on my 98 ZX6R it was intermittently working I cannot wait to go home and try this as that starter sounded as healthy and great as anything and I couldn't understand why I would just feel like that without slowly getting worse so I'm going to go home and tap that box and if I do and it starts I owe you a big one my friend I'll keep you in touch hopefully this works cross your fingers

I agree it's related to power, but I'm not sure it is with the button, though. I too have the same problem sometimes. When it 'clicks', I turn off the lights so the battery has more power available for either the starter relay, or the starter itself. Since the starter motor was replaced not so long ago, I think it's the starter relay all along.

@edmondvanas2710 Thanks for watching. It can be the starter but all the connections need to he checked. The contact for the button does need to be cleaned since it's exposed to water when it rains. Over time it causes corrosion at the contact point. I also replaced the ground wire. That also helped. Thanks for watching and I'm glad the starter was your culprit. :)

Hey Frank this Ty I'm now having this issue except it makes NO clicking sound at all. I have the start kill switch apart I cleaned the 2 prong connector pins that the 2 wires go attached to. The spring looks okay but will remove screw to inspect the contact points you mentioned here.

Yeah the longer I own her the more I see the common issues others are experiencing. These can run forever if you know how to fiddle with these issues. lol. There are a few plastic terminal connector plugs on the 7R that melt due to electrical heat and push the pin out of alignment and make poor contact. The starter connector, the alternator connector, and the ignition switch connector. You'll have to cut out the plastic plug and rewire it with male/female push in connectors. Keep me posted if this fixes your problem. Thanks for watching!

I’m having the almost the same problem with my 2008 ninja. I’ll turn the key and all the lights will turn on but the bike won’t turn over it’s not clicking or making any noise. Could the starter be the problem or is it something else.

Thanks for watching. Honestly you'll have to go through the circuit. sometimes it can be the actual cylinder that holds the key. or the neutral safety switch under the clutch lever perch. Also the kickstand switch can also be problematic. I had to replace what I just mentioned since ownership of my bike. Google safety switch bypass and see if that does anything. wiggle the key cylinder harness while holding the start button and see if it improves the circuit. for me I noticed when I turned the bars to the left she didn't want to start. when I straightened out the steering she would turn over! that's qhat clued me in to the key cylinder. when I back tracked it one of the wires actually melted the plastic harness plug! I had to take male/female connectors and bypass that part of the harness. hope this helps

Thanks for posting this video. I'm having trouble with my 96 ZX7r. It's like it's not getting fuel. I have a video of what it's doing any suggestions would be appreciated. th-cam.com/video/EomvEtbKqag/w-d-xo.html

I watched your video and replied! These bikes are awesome to ride. The motors are bulletproof. But man what a hassle trying to figure them out when they get finicky. Eventually you will figure her out but it will drive you nuts til you do. When you do you'll kick yourself figuring it out sooner. It's just it takes time. Keep me posted.
