🚩So I see a lot of good intentions, but a lot of Misleading Mistakes. I I am a General Contractor and have been installing luxury vinyl snaplock for 7+years. Per manufacturer instructions, you need a quarter inch expansion around your walls yes, but also around everything else for instance like your toilet flanges, water lines etc. The planks expand and contrast with temperature fluctuations and all "tight cuts" will cause binding and unlocking of your flooring and also void manufacturers warranty. If your box says you need a expansion gap, that means everything, not just your wall. When installing luxury vinyl snaplock it's important to NEVER glue, screw, nail, etc. As it will once again cause a failure to expand and contrast, therefore causing binding and unlocking. Also as the flooring needs to expand and contrast heavy items like cabinetry should never be set on top, but gone around and finished with trim as once again they will cause binding and failure to expand and contrast. Believe it or not most of this information can be found right on the back of the box. These are manufacturer guidelines but as a rule of thumb you can tell yourself if you have to leave expansion along the wall a quarter inch, you need to leave a quarter inch around everything else and allow it to expand and contrast. I'm not saying you can't install the floor this way and walk away from it with it looking good... for now....I am definitely saying it was not installed properly and I would be very concerned about longevity. The only reason I made this comment is for the spread of the knowledge, I'm in no way trying to down anyone's work! Hope this was helpful!
@@rockycaughron8755 Yes most definitely! Then make sure you leave a quarter inch around the toilet flange, Then clean the old seal off your flange and install a new wax seal.

THANK YOU for your ever so simply explanation of how to install vinyl planking. I will be doing my entire home, 1000 sq ft. and particularly like that stop-block preventing the flooring from moving when you do not have an entirely empty home and need to move furniture. Great tutorial video! Quick question, I saw you removed the old tile and 1/4” plywood layer and you’re installing the vinyl planks on top of the subfloor. But here 6:21 when you cut out the vinyl plank to have it fit underneath the door frame, I notice you now have a space gap between the vinyl plank the button of the door frame trim. Since you can’t really put quarter round here to hide that gap since it’s a door frame, what can you do to hide it?
Excellent video. Precise instructions. You made it look simple. But believe me, it’s not as simple as it looks. 2 rules…1-measure twice, cut once. 2-go slow…do not rush. And it will pay off.

Is a bead of 100% silicone enough to protect the transition of solid core LVP and barrier-free shower floor tile? If yes, great. If no, please suggest what may be used instead of silicone, or whether to scrap the idea of using LVP altogether. Thank you.
Been replacing our flooring and using your vids for reference. Concise and straight to the points. Wouldn't it be easier to install baseboards before the toilet in the way?
Thank you! Most definitely! The less interference the better, It was a little hard to run that piece of baseboard behind the toilet and the sink interference 😅
Wow you made this job look really easy I’m in the stage of were bathroom needs renovating but everybody that I’m asking are quoting at least 10k for a small bathroom but now I’m more thing of just replacing the bath and put in a new shower and sink but need to replace the floor aswell I’m in the uk and don’t have the flange in the floor or the vent in floor so I’m finking going to go to the b&q and see how much it’s going to cost me for the flooring and new bath and sink great work on your video
Great install. Though, I removed the LVP from my bathroom today and confirmed my suspicion; water from bath/unexpected toilet overflow will travel under the lvp and stay there for a looong time. If you install it over subfloor, expect o find mold after a couple of years under the lvp. I'll be replacing the vinyl plank with tile. Good vid!
Oh no! Yes these are great for guest half bathroom where there is no shower. Yet you can put them on full baths because most are waterproof LVP, just make sure you seal the bottoms of those baseboards with caulk and any open cracks where the toilet sits. Thank you so much for the info and for watching bother! 🙏🏽😊👍🏽
Oh man I am afraid of this! I am going to to go tight against the bath and caulk over but also worried about expansion gap. I am also going right over existing vinyl stick floor that is a solid sheet. I hope it works!
i’ve done some research and i’ve seen some people using a waterproof underlayment before installing the floors, does that fix the problem do you think?
Awesome video! I did have a quick question. We bought a new house that has laminate flooring in the bathrooms. We were told that if we wanted to add vinyl plank wood flooring we could literally lay it right on top of the laminate without having to tear that out. Is that true?
So do you silicone around the hole to prevent water intrusion from tub splash or wax ring leak? I know it’s waterproof but once water goes under, it’s gonna mold right?
Is there an advantage to placing silicone at base of baseboards similar to your caulking around base of toilet to help prevent water from getting under vinyl flooring ?
In Australia we have to have a full positive/negative water proofing sealant under tiles or flooring and about 300 mm up walls and most states you have to have a qualified waterproofer to do it
If you’re planning to do this I advise you to add extra adhesive and put some weights on it for at least 24 hours. The reason is the edges tend to give out over time and the edges where I added extra adhesive didn’t move at all.
What no this is a floating floor, it needs to be able to expand and contract...No glue if it's coming apart either low quality planks or installed wrong. Install it to wall and put trim over the edges.
Man this was helpful as I’m remodeling my first house I did get a laugh though when you said make sure have ppe on and then you were doing it in your socks at a point

Yes don't be scared. You can do it!! I do it everyday fortunately for customers, but I've had a few ladies that did their own and just hired me to help finish the edging. Its not as hard as you think. This video is pretty good.
Buy the waterproof vinyl plank and you don't need any sort of underlayment. In fact on many brands you void the warranty if you use underlayment. That brings up another point....be sure to register the product you use with the manufacturer so if there is a problem with water you can apply the warranty.
My question as well. A lot of people are saying you need a moisture and waterproof underlayment to prevent your subfloor getting moldy. And then theres some saying you don’t need it
I’d also waterproof seal the areas around plumbing fixtures. Toilet being first one. Even if it means doing the whole floor first. I’d make sure it’s proper. The cost is a lot but it would last a longer time over all. Food for thought.
How do you seal around tub etc. Like, it's waterproof in the center but how do you keep water from getting in the edges? Since it floats, it's not like you can put any adhesive under the trim. What method do you suggest? I need to do this in a rental bathroom and people treat rentals differently.
Some manufacturers are now recommending that you dont need to leave a gap at the walls once the flooring has been climatized, its suppose to be a stable product so expansion is not an issue. I installed some in my bathroom years ago with no gaps and no problems, joints are still tight.
Loved the video. Lot's of good ideas / technics. But man, I was scared for the safety of your hand at 9:20 ...you should have started a new cut going away from you, but I'm happy nothing happened.
