- This is best guide to US prop bomber aircraft in War Thunder. Here you will find detailed information on all bombers in the regular tech tree. Each bomber will be reviewed with a pros and cons section together with detailed information about bombloads, turrets and armament. I will also give my opinion on how to best use all the bomber aircraft. Lastly, I will make my recommendation on which bombers to use and which to skip. Hope you enjoy.

oh and another con with the B-29 (and Tu-4) is the control surface on each wing will get taken out very easy and also they catch on fire easy, think of the body being strong and the wings being a pretty big weak point
I can't count how many times I died in US planes because of the control surfaces being shot down...

I like to use the PBY-5 as a pseudo AC-47 with bombs at lower BR tank battles
It's a fun idea and I bet people rarely see the PBY-5 used in that manner.
I enjoy the b17 so much my grandfathers brother was a right side waist gunner on a b17g and he was actually in the same bomber group as the ye olde pub b17 for those who dont know which b17 that is its the one the bf109 spared

pbm-1 mariner is so strong because this plane can survive engine fires while being shot at
a lot of times when i was playing this plane MIG-3's would circle around me and I'd still survive for about 5 minutes

there is also a lot of empty space in the fuselage where nothing really happens if you hit those areas.

this makes me odly nistolgic. when i started the game instead of going down the fighter line like everyone else i saw big planes with huge and lots of guns and thought i want that. a little while later i had all the way to jet bombers but had to learn from scratch how to play fighters but i eventually learned i like warthunder iv played for so long and made so many friends and squaded with some cool people through this game that have come and gone so thanks gijian for the cool memories and epic moments

If the second 2000 pound bomb on the b17 is barely used when destroying a base then why don’t you use the 8 1000 pound bombs drop 3, waste less.

I did think about spitting the videos up tier for tier for instance, but since some tiers have limited aircraft it would make annoying and disconnected videos, anyhow that is what I think. Overall each plane maybe has 5-10 minutes worth of content and I believe that to be enough for people to get the main idea of a given bomber. Mainly I wanted to get it done so I could move on to the next nation as well. So its not that I did not think about that aspect, I just decided against it 🙂 - my videos rack up a lot of watch hours considering the size of the channel, so its all good.

Hello my beatifull friend, sorry but I have to ask, why do you feel bad for people on console, I think it's in reference to the graphics of the game, all I can say is dont feel bad for us at all, we don't get any issues with tanks rendering in or any mine craft effects, the controls take a long time too master but the game is visually spectacular, me and my brother play all the time, he's on pc and I feel bad for him that his game doesn't look as good ,,,,,, I love your videos and hope you don't stop and keep growing, very helpfull stuff, I always learn something from your video's, good work man

@@8BitDane thats very interesting , I must say I do understand the control issues, very confusing and not enough buttons, but over two years playing I have mastered my own technique, I would recommend a snakebyte controller for anyone on console, there not expensive and are actually made for p.c , these work really well, I'm personally in Europe on a playstation and this game runs perfect , it would be nice to have the marketplace I must admit,, thank you for the reply 8 BitDane , I was very curious

Is there a jet bomber you suggest i use or strike aircraft. and if strike do they have bomb sights?
late jet bombers and strike aircraft have targeting computers, so you should be ok in that regard. The last bomber similar to the ones in the guide are the two B-57A and B Canberra's at Br 8.3. The A model is unarmed, but the B has either .50 cals or cannons, so you can either go offensive against aircraft or ground targets. They do not have a massive bombload but it is ok. Then there is a considerable Br. gap to 10.0 with the F-105D Thunderchief and F-111A Aardwark at 10.3. They can, in addition to bombs, also carry rockets and missiles, which will bring more options, but also challenges, since they operate is a very different threat environment than the Canberra's.

Hi Alexis, usually guide and "how to" videos on the channel are slow burners, but that is ok, I knew that. They will get good view numbers, but it will take time. It is mostly new players or players about to unlock a bomber that watches it, so the audience is always there :)

Hi Alex, all the guides are slow burners, it takes time for them to gain views and such because of the nature of the videos. The Stuka video for instance started out with barely any views, it took 6 months before it started to gain traction. But the good thing about the guides is, that they will always have an audience since new players keep coming to the game 🙂 - but I appreciate you saying it !

Its funny, I think of that every time I use one of planes able to use the sea mine 🙃 With any luck its such a niche weapon that they won't change it.

I dont get how you level up bombers past BR 4.... Everything comes after you because people enjoy shooting fish in a barrel.
It can be frustrating at times for sure. You can avoid or at least combat some of those frustrations with experience. There is no doubt that Gaijin does not, besides bringing out a new model from time to time, give bomber players a whole lot of attention with new mechanics. I just happen to enjoy the laid back playing style of bombers; sit back, drink some coffee and see how far your experience and then of course, luck, can bring you.
Guide to bombers: Dont play them over 4.0 or so because you'll just get nuked by an interceptor or possibly even jets. Maybe dropping on one base once out of every 4-6 rounds.

@@8BitDane The thing is I started out as bombers, and they were fun, and the gunners would actually defend me as I do bombing runs. Now, they never shoot, and my wing gets severed from a single strafe
The B25 frustrates me so much. Bomb load is Meh and the elevator, my goodness that glass elevator. Historically it was 16 redundant sections. WHY DOES IT JUST FALL OFF!?
I have it the same way with the HUGE vertical stabilizer of the PB4Y. That thing get shot off right away from a rear attack and makes sure that you will never make it back to base.
Can you destroy a Base on the Br of the B-29 with the same amount of TNT like in your Video today? Because this could have changed.

@@joshuabonk3360 you can take a base with 8x 500 lb bombs. do not use 1000 lb it is just worse if you do the math.
How can I figure out which bomb gets dropped first if I have different kind of bombs in my preset??
what I do is just try it out in the test flight, trying to turn the camera around so I can see the sizes of the bombs, but it is pretty akward. I hope they will make a quality of life update and some simple graphics on the loadout screen showing which size bombs are being dropped and from what station in which order.

@@edwardblomstrand7203 you're welcome, if you cant turn the camera around, just try dropping bombs one at a time, you can then watch the size of the explosion on the ground, that works too.
Hello bro i know the video its posted 3 years ago but i have a question which nation its better to choose to play bombers Britain or USA?
Hi, in general, the British bombers have much larger bombing loads, but the aircraft themselves suffer with being slower and have poor defensive armament with mostly rifle caliber weapons. In contrast the US bombers only have mediocre bombloads, but the aircrafts are faster, sturdier and have far better defensive armament with .50 cals pointing everywhere. So the effect on targets are higher with the British bombers, but their survivability is quite a bit lower than the US counterparts.

The PB4Y can have 8 naval mines with about 508 KG of tnt each it's been minorly buffed because they act like bombs if they hit the ground, giving it almost 8 2000 lb bombs worth of TNT

I'm still messing around at Rank II but if I am not mistaken aren't bombers a lot harder to kill now that they almost all have engine fire extinguishers now ?
It is a tiny bit better now for US bombers with the addition. It may save you, if you are lucky. But in most cases a chasing plane will stay on you until you have been destroyed. Sadly, it is only on US bombers

fHi Ishak, the B-25s are fine for mixed battles as well. Only thing you need to look out for, especially in mixed battles is the diving speed. past 430 km/h or so it becomes heavy and can be hard to pull out from a dive with. Its a good bomber to strafe and bomb tanks with and it has good defensive armament against other players.

The 30 100s also kill more bases then the rest. The equivalent must be bugged but definitely your best base pick.

The back pressure gasses leaving the muzzle of one barrel would throw off the trajectory of the bullet leaving the muzzle of the other mg because they were placed to close together. They added those flow deflectors to deflect the gasses away from the opposite barrel.

It really is about just keeping at it. Experience is the best teacher, BUT yeah, it can be frustrating at times for sure.
@@8BitDane honestly I feel like they match me up tiers than down. and I say that because I’m fighting vehicles in 7 tiers and I’m using 5-6 tier same as aircraft my aircraft can’t keep up with others, even the same plane! I’m in my b17 30 seconds into it and here comes a damn bf 109 or yak and I’m done.

Oh not at all, did I sound like it was bad? It's good except from the somewhat light bomb load and it can become really heavy and unresponsive at speeds in a dive, but it Is a bomber after all 🙂.

It is my 3rd day grinding USA bombers and i already spaded B-29, my experience with US bombers was terrible. I think they are all overtiered because their useless machine guns make them look like their defensive capabilities are good. Terrible climb rate for all US bombers = terrible gameplay. At least B-57 is the best bomber around its tier.
i thought american bombers were supposed to be the best? if not what bomber tree should i focus?

Are bombers still useless in this game? I deleted War thunder 2 years ago after buying B-29 and finding out bombers are useless and Gaijin hates them.
The B-29 definitely is borderline useless since it will face jets 99% of the time and although Gaijin lowered its repair cost it is so not worth taking out. only if you enjoy side climbing for 10 mins and being hunted since you at that time will be the only player left on your team. But I do like playing bombers in general (obviously). At lower ranks they can be great fun and useful in both ground and air battles.

@@dictionaryguy5521 i have been using bombers to grind for the f 14 starting at 1.0. I cannot for the life of me drop more than 1 ton of bombs per game with the B29. it just cant fight jets
