This is why I've changed my damage models...instead of a few bullet holes, entire sections of plane are shot off, waist and tail gunners hanging out in the air....cockpit gone. You can do it from the "customize" section and using something like Photoshop.
Yeah the problem is the damage models are complete arse in terms of granularity. Understandably so mind you.But it drives a lot of issues. The Hull Break mechanic is functionally a similar thing. Most of the time a direct hit from a suitably big shell will kill a lightly armour AFV or aircraft, but in the real world they will survive hits occasionally. But the WT damage model system is dumbed down enough so the servers can handle it that in practise those outcomes are much too common without hull breaking.
@@darthkarl99 You can't do anything about the mechanical breakage but you CAN use higher resolution images for skins than come 'standard'. I take the standard skin and at least double the size for my version, then make a copy with a transparent background and add the damage. Everywhere you erase becomes a hole in the plane when hit. You can't hurt anything messing with it. You're also the only one that can see the skin. (because it's only loaded on your computer) Other players just see the stock skin.
I've got a USS Enterprise NCC-17 (B-17) skin based on the Original Trek paint job. It has the Orion slave girl Marta for nose art and gets phaser burns and disruptor blasts all over when hit.
My 1965 Ford (P-51) Mustang skin based on my buddy's car...gets parking lot dents, scratches and rust holes.

I loved hearing how excited you guys got whenever you downed an enemy fighter. Makes it feel even more rewarding lol. I really wish gaijin would implement a gamemode strictly for bombers and it was set up somewhat like this with large bombing targets and formation flying.
Who would tell their squadron to hold fire when there are literally bandits weaving through the formation??
EDIT: I in no way meant disrespect to the creators, players, or idea of the video. I just thought they should have opened fired once fighters were in range rather than waiting, which resulted in several bombers being downed. As Iron's perspective showed, even one 109 could carve a path through a formation with a few bursts.

Normally, the bombers would test fire all defensive guns as soon as they were out over the north sea, and then weapons free until returning to friendly flak coverage.

Will Spence The Flight Leaders for this CB had to use Discord and Teamspeak at the same time with a plug in for TS they had to install that added a radio com effect for “More immersion”. This event was suppose to be about as serious as the Dunkirk CB, but somewhere along the line people couldn’t respawn and command chat wasn’t talking to anyone because they were trying to sort it out. People just ended up leaving.

Patrick Mercader For this CB (at least in my Flight), My Flight Leader was told by command to tell us to watch for friendly fire in formation. Which was summed up as “do not fire upon an enemy unless they are out of the formation, or your bomber is the one being fired upon”.
Easy, in military hitting teammates results in discharge. Be patient and wait until the fighters pull off bomber formation so a pilot/Gunner/repairman doesn't catch a bullet. So killing enemies is more important than your own formation. I disagree

Just as an aside to my previous comment, B-17s didn't take off in pairs. Especially in airfields like that. There were also lead planes from each base that had special vibrant colors and markings painted on them that would act as rally points for each squadron so they could form up. Sort of like chase cars in NASCAR.

Also, lead bomber had his head up his ass, should have gone weapons free BEFORE you had enemy fighters engaging the formation.
Your preference, but friendly fire in roleplay also isn't the best idea.

Yes, i am aware of that, in ww2, the germans (relatively late in the war) used IR guidance systems, you woild basically have one guy looking at a king of radar screen that would depict targets as a point. This screen was feed with information from an infrared system or even later on from a radar system.
If a target was detacted, the position information would have been relayed to several manually operated flak guns (usually 4 to 5 flak 88 guns and some 20 mm autocannons), these would have fired at the demanded direction.
This system was one flak battery and in a "bomber vs flak" scenario, there would be several independent flak batteries, it is actually an interesting idea for a player made mission that use 88 mm flak buses and maybe one kind of "Befehlswagen" as the commanding vehicle, well, if you ask me anyway ;D.

First, props for just mentioning the Red Tails. I have mentioned them during some missions and nobody knows who I'm talking about. I'm also surprised they're not some type of Premium plane considering their spectacular history and record for protecting bombers!!!
Secondly, this is EPIC!!! Personally I love being a Bomber Pilot and hope I can get to be a part of something on a grand scale like this.
Lastly, thanks for showing bombers off again. I don't think they get enough attention because well, they aren't that big on action. But, when used properly they can do some of the largest amount of damage.
