If you pay for gayjin, you just simply ruin the game for everyone! If you dont pay, they need fixing the issues (br decomp, toptier meta mess, engine mess). Backlash, boycotts, reviewbombing works (like in creative assemly case), but the best thing is not paying for this shit.
You forgot to mention arrows. When there's an arrow between vehicles, the previous one can effectively grind the next one no matter the Tier gap between them. That's very important for minor nations that have huge gaps between the vehicles. Japan is the best example: you can effectively research R2Y2 with B7A2 or Type 87 with SUB-I-II.
And there is another important benefit about the arrows, you have a 130% efficienty bonus! Which is why I use a variation on the unlock and spade everything way. I use the arrow/efficiency bonus as much as possible but avoid the bonus from the modifications on porpuse (most of the time) on that vehicle. For 3 reasons, first: I don't need the modification bonus to unlock the next vehicle because of increased research. Second: those bonusses from the modifications allow me to unlock vehicles behind a vehicle a don't want to play. And lastly the 130% efiicienty bonus (or any other bonus) doesn't aply to the modification bonus (as explained in the video). For example: I wanted to unlock the swedish T54 without playing the Challenger VII, so I used vehicles from lower tiers (even down to tier1) to unlock it by spading those lower tier vehicles. Very good video on many important tips, but I felt this tip was missing a bit.
@@swegmann2345 This may have been a good advice few month ago, but right now F-1 sees too many uptiers. So I'd recommend either T-2 or F-4EJ, which currently plays 80% of games either in downtiers or against 11.3. I've literally unlocked F-16AJ yesterday.
@@jojojam753 Yep, that is true, however it does still receive the research bonus from the vehicle before it. Example from the swedish techtree: both the Comet I and T-34-85 receive efficiency bonus from PT-76, but as you mentioned, the T34-85 doesn't receive a bonus from the Comet I.
Two tips that I think should be mentioned: 1) The bonus RP for completing a tier of module research does not get reduced for being outside the -1/+1 tier range. 2) When you unlock a vehicle and have leftover RP to allocate from a match, that *also* does not get reduced if it's outside the range. These are obviously edge-case scenarios, but it does make it very easy to unlock low tier stuff with high tier planes if you skipped over them or if the snail added them after the fact.
The former, especially, is super useful. I've been using the tier unlock bonuses for the Strv 122A, B and B+ to quickly complete the CV90 Fin which came out after I'd gone past it and I've been sweeping up. Rank 8 might be out of effective researching range but the bonuses have absolutely barnstormed the unlock.
It's really efficient in the way that for exemple you have a tier 3 vehicle that u play well and your already far in the tech tree (like rank 6 ). you can play your tier 3 vehicle with a huge booster activated, research a rank 1 or 2 vehicle with it. All the leftover xp goes to any rank vehicle you want. So, sometimes if u did well u can have like 5000k Rp or more to put on a high rank vehicle just by playing a low tier aircraft u love.

@@randomthings3776 no, the modification research left over once spaded is lost. But if you need say 10k rp to unlock a vehicle, but get 15k rp in a match, the extra 5k rp when you select a new vehicle to research isn't penalized for any rank difference.
i used to exploit the latter strategy when sim rewards were still good. I would research some plane from rank 1-6 until it has like 1000 RP left and then i would take my ju 288 into a sim bombing match and absolutely hussle. after finishing the research on that particular plane, i still have like 200,000 RP left which i can allocate to any top tier vehicle, although youre not supposed to be able to effectively research top tier vehicles with the rank V ju 288. not really worth it anymore now, since they fucked sim rewards so much.

I grinded Most Rank 6 Jets with the F3D-1 because it gets an air spawn with two, 2,000 pound bombs and can get bases before anyone else typically. Good jet for anyone looking to grind the rank above it
I got a talisman for the A Sabre. Literally grinded all of the supersonics and Korean war era jets with it. Didnt play a single other F-86 lmao. With the A i could basically outmaneuver anything in a 1v1 if we started with the same energy. Its a good and very agile plane but has a pretty weak engine.
Sim battles are way too underrated. They give more research and SL per in game XP than RB does, plus practically no one plays sim so it almost always turns into a PvE match where you can effortless grind out XP without worrying about losing a bunch of SL from getting shot down in an expensive jet.

Great video Tim! I'm sure it'll be pretty helpful for a lot of people coming into this game. A tip i learned from Tankenstein here on TH-cam which i think you should tell your viewers: *If you're planning on buying premium time and are thinking of purchasing GE to get it, DON'T, it's quite a bit cheaper if you buy it on the Gaijin store directly.* And on the sales throughout the year like the one we just had, there's usually 180 days of premium time for half off, which is an amazing deal.
I feel like more players are drawn to realistic at top tier and arcade low tier is pace of match, and how top tier WEP is significantly different in the performance output.
tricks I found are 1: when you find a good grinder, play it constantly until you get what you want, it may be dull but you get good at the plane, when grinding the MiG-29 i got so good with the 23 I got regular Ace matched in games full of 29s and F-16s. 2. play in the mornings when you can when you're refreshed and focused. I usually grinded before my late shift and could get around 120K RP in about 3 hours with premium

The grind is rough, even reasonable to say awful, even after the changes in air. The ground forces grind just went from hellish to an almost unnoticeably less deep circle of hellish. Truly contributes, at least I think, to that mode having the saltiest players and worst behavior, and deliberately crashing into allied bombers props for the "sin" of playing a bomber is something you won't get through a Saturday afternoon grind without seeing at least once. Ground is full of players rightfully frustrated at the game, wrongfully taking it out on each other.
The main problem in grinding ground vehicles imo is that fact that the higher you get the less effective your tank is when you first unlock it. You basically have to spend 20 games hoping for 1 or 2 kills in a GRB game when playing stock rank 6 or 7 tanks. It is the most frustrating thing in the world and it is not even due to a lack of parts and fpe but literally having a round that is so infirior to the rounds you unlock later on. Its like flying a dual engine plane but you only unlock the second engine after you gained 10k rp... Grinding tier 7 mbts with heatfs shells vs using apfsds rounds is so annoyingly frustrating that players just abondon toptier vehicles at all. Im a GRB main for usa and I am litterly researching top tier vehicles while im most likely never going to play them. I really hope they going to implement a system where once you researched the entire tech tree of a faction you can use those vehicles to research maybe the firsst 3 or 4 tiers of another nation just like they just did with the option to research helicopters with ground rp. Sorry for the long post lol.
I think the grind for air rb is fine if you have premium. If you have premium time + premium planes it's an absolute breeze. Ground is a different animal entirely.
One thing I don’t see talked about lots is the fact that lots of more experienced players are staying lower in br. Players who have rank 5 almost fully unlocked will drop down into br 3-7 more often. With more med-high skill players at low br’s, the amount of times you get sent back to the hanger with no more than a few hits for xp drastically increase. It’s not really a problem with the game itself and that’s why it’s not talked about much but as a newer player trying to climb the British tech tree, it’s kinda crazy how often I encounter level 50-60 accounts. Edit: After going into the game for a while, in a 3.7. I have concluded that 50-60 was an understatement. Played 5 games and every one had 3-4 level 90 accounts.
What sucks is that i have found there are large amounts of far more advanced accounts with players who have been playing for years are playing a lot more in the lower tiers. I am not horrible at the game but I am by no means good. Every game I get destroyed and when i check the player cards, more often than not, the person who got me is level 80+ in a 3.7 br game. I know arcade is somewhat of a solution to this but to be honest, arcade and realistic are two completely different games and one is many times better than the other. I know its kinds dumb to complain about but damn, smurf accounts are annoying.

I have one great tip how to grind in WT: don't play this crap and go get a life) But if talking seriously, games sucks in making research lines because in most of them research moves in geometrical progression. Like you need 5-40k for low tiers, 40-70 for mid tiers, 100-250 for pred top and 300-400 for top tiers. And also gaijin desided to folder lots kf interesting and/or powerful vehicles in low tier(and then remove most of available skips making grind lots slower.
I'd say a good strategy is to research the tier, choose 1 vehicle and get expert crew with all mods. Grind one rank ahead, then repeat. Use lines with folders and pick up a bf-109 e-7/xp-50 for some sl grinding (or bomb in sb for sl)
My tip is to keep in mind that one thing all WT content creators seem to say: Try not to view the tech tree as the end goal, or rather don't measure your enjoyment of the game based on how quickly you're progressing down it. Yeah, there'll be some combinations of nations, vehicle type, and tech level that are absolute slogs, but there's plenty of fun to be had at most levels. Rank 2-3 ground is tons of fun because there's a ton of variety in both what you can drive and what you can face, things are relatively fast paced, and there aren't as many mechanics to worry about as there are in Cold War+ era stuff.
I did my American air tree very wierdly. I went down the bomber line as fast as I could, first for the B57, then for the Thud (MY BELOVED). I would exploit breaks in the TT lines and differing lengths of certain lines to get to the next rank for bombers faster. I used the first B25 until I researched the B24 liberator. Why, you may ask? Because I am a slave to Gaijin and refuse to by GE or do anything of logic. Working towards the F15 (RAHHHHH🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅) using my F111(MY BELOVED RAHHHHHH).
If you dont have a premium account, turn off the auto repair thing!!! This has saved me so much money over the years. Especially if you play GRB a lot. A whole line up that you play could cost about 50k to repair, but if you only wanted to play it once with friends or something theres no need to repair those vehicles. I had it turned off even with premium but now when they changed it to compensate for any SL losses after a bad game, if you have it turned off you dont get compensated. So turn it on if you have premium. It adds up seriously.
i bombed my way to MiG-19S and 21MF (21SMT was the toptier at that time) because i was so dogshit at fighting and somehow actually got good at toptier after a week which in turn made me good at midprops too after like a full year of grinding germany using MiG-21MF
you missed a very important strategy for buying premium time. Premium goes on sale for 50% off twice a year ( I think it's on april fools and during the anniversary sale.) You can then buy the 1 year or the half year premium time and then you have it all year round. the 1 year and the half year premium are the most efficient in terms of days of premium per GE spent.
5:13 Hey Tim, great video overall. I believe you may have misspoke here though; the bonus you get is 414 RP, the 2070 is the total cost of all the modifications in that tier (required to get the bonus).
Once or twice a year you can get premium time at 1/2 off (normally around November / December for anniversary, winter sale, and even summer sale) and get a full year of premium for about $40. Larger GE packs and premium time are cheaper on the web store than on Steam/client. The easiest way to grind ground is to stay at a BR range of 0.3 of each vic (such as only 3.0 and 3.3 vics) and stick with that until you have at least 3 vehicles of the next rank before moving up. Having more things to spawn in = more team contribution which = higher chance of winning which = those nice bonuses Tim was mentioning. Don't get that first shiny new vehicle in the next rank and be a "one-death leaver".
The problem I have with premium time is that it feels forced on you even when you no longer pay for premium time they say “hey we noticed you did not pay for premium time would you like to cough up the funds” I get that they need money but after paying for the wyvern probably a year ago 6ish months after it ran out I’d get a notification right after login saying give me money for less pain and it made no sense for it to continue for 6 fucking months after the little 15 day premium time ran out I get they need money I feel like I shouldn’t be forced to pay it and warthunder players being brain dead as they are just throw their wallet at them yeah I can play a different game but wargaming sucks at anything in the suck dcs is expensive and warthunder is happy medium of arcade and sim but I feel like I shouldn’t be force to pay to play in a free to play

I'll be mentioning that topic in a channel update dropping soon, but the short answer is that the eligibility for that "level" is determined entirely by average views-per-video over a several month period, and my routine weekly Wednesday updates are nowhere near qualifying. I'd need to roughly triple (or more) the raw quantity of views before I could even apply. Meanwhile, tiktokers posting brainrot meme content, and youtubers with technomusic kill montages, have 10 times my reach and get affiliate partnership easily .....

Maybe someone will see this. Gaijin also sells premium time on their online store and (at least in usd) it’s far cheaper for bulk buying than with buying with GE
assault arcade isn't worth it, the booster merely compensates for wasted time on bad arcade rewards. Just play 1 realistic match and you get more then the boosters could ever have given.
Additionally you should never fully spade the last vehicles in your tech tree until an update releases so that you do not throw away your tier rp bonuses. You can also strategically have tiers ready to complete so you can spade multiple vehicles very quickly when new vehicles release and get lots of bonus rp to shorten the grind or outright unlock new vehicles.
I really wish WT went the extra mile and added some more things to make the grind easier like giving 2x exp on weekends or during festivities (or for the first match of the day with that vehicle) like World of Tanks used to do or how Armoured Warfare does it or _especially,_ take something i love about Armoured Warfare which is a research bonus for every vehicle unlocked and owned for a specific tech tree, it would incentivize getting foldered equipment aswell Because, let's face it, unless you're B-Lining a specific top tier vehicle in a specific nation and ONLY PLAY THAT, it'll take you a while to get what you want, I've been playing semi-regularly (3-4 days a week of WT for a minimum of a couple of hours give or take) since 2017 if I don't remember wrong and I only recently got to 8.7 with both planes, helicopters and tanks (and 5.7 with ships) with italy, but I'm also at 5.0 with the US and Russia and soon with Japan too for air and ground trees (and ships), it's very inefficient BUT IT'S SO BORING TO ONLY PLAY TANKS/ONLY PLAY AIR FOR ONE NATION UNTILL I GET WHAT I WANT Anyway, I look forward for another year of Tim's Variety, happy new year everyone
Touching on the "Spading everything" advancement strategy that you talked about: It is relatively hard to impossible to grind out and buy all modifications and still be able to buy and crew the next vehicle. I do this most of the time and I found that even if i'm really good with one vehicle, unless I have a high SL booster, the SL I earn during the grind will barely ever be enough for the purchase cost of the next vehicle. I tend to grind all of the fighters first and spade them as I go. When I have to farm SL I'm researching the attackers and bombers. That way I still research every vehicle but I don't play the ones I don't like to play and still maintain enough SL to buy the ones I'm interested in. I usually buy bombers when there's a SL sale, so I'll only pay half price.
This is what I do. I only buy a new vehicle after I spade the one I am using and the next one I buy is one I like and fits into a lineup. Dont buy vehicles that don't complete a lineup. Work on spading one vehicle at a time. While you unlock all those around it. This is a game to have fun on also. You normally get battle trophies when you spade out a vehicle I have 8 talismans this way. Even f2p I had enough sl even before the economy changes. Wagers and boosters are useful. Points for caps mean more then kills. Cheers.
you don't need to buy the modifications to get the bonuses, you can fly the plane stock the entire time or only buy important things like missiles/bombs. flight performance will be a little worse but that doesn't matter if you are never going to fly it afterwards. You are also increasing the repair cost of the plane with every one you buy. same with the crew, never buy the crew qualification unless you plan on playing the thing long-term. it super helpful to have, but just a massive waste of credits if you only play the thing for a few days.
Not trying to be rude, but are you at early ranks? (1-3) There are some tactics to farm and medals to achieve that will greatly help the grind If SL is a problem early on

An additional tip for more experienced players: During special events where Gaijin offers those Silver Lion loot boxes, it is very much worth it to open them solely for boosters (and backups if you play ground rb). If you are using a premium account and/or premium vehicle, you will very quickly make up for the Silver Lion cost with the boosters it provides, in addition to a ton more Research Points.
Started playing again this year and been grinding air trees. Got my first tier 8 this summer and now have multiple. Grinding into MiG 29 next after F15.
Every time i come back to this game, my previously grinded lines have been expanded and broken by more plane variants in folders. Gaijin knows full well why they're doing this and so do we. Good luck reaching any of the higher ranks without premium in any reasonable amount of time.

My biggest top tip after playing this game for like 10 years now is to concentrate on playing just to have fun rather than getting your reward from the next unlock... Because that's a very quick way to get frustrated and turn toxic and we shouldn't let Gaijin do that to us in our leisure time.

10:15 you can actually play assault as much as you want, you just only get a booster for completing it the first time. its how i ground out tanks with bad shells in low tier, then once i had a better shell i went into GRB
the rewards you are getting in sim CAN be higher than rb. unless you get a lot of kills fast. every 15 minutes it evaluates what you did and gives you an activity value and gives you that much of what you could get. now that seems fair and simple, up to the point where it seems one kill means 90%, 2kills might be 93%, 3 kills 95%, and anything more just makes you approach the 99% but you will never break through that 100% barrier 16:55
I’m a very casual player. I only play sim because I care more for the feel of piloting a plane rather than just competitive killing. My HUD is off and all. I like it. I spent around 3-4 years on a normal account playing some months and some I didn’t touch the game. Always worried about my SL and got to the first F-86. After that I gave premium account a try and in around 2 months I’m currently unlocking my last jet before trying out the top tier. The difference is notable

Hey Tim, another great video. One thing, though that you didn’t mention that I feel like is worthy of talking about is when it comes to grinding a tree it’s important to know what you want to play and what you don’t care about. For example, I recently unlocked the leopard 2a7v and I consider myself at top tier for German ground forces. However, I stopped grinding the tank destroyer line for Germany around the time you got the first missile carrier. I just didn’t really care too much about these vehicles because they aren’t really all that meta-and I don’t really feel like using them granted I know that the missile weasel is quite good and cheesy but I just don’t care about it enough for me to grind it right now instead, I decidedI’m going to start using ground research for helicopters because I really want the tiger helicopter so I would advise people grinding out a text to figure out if a certain line of vehicles is interesting to them and if it isn’t don’t bother grinding it more than you have to for rank progression.
I rarely like to buy mtx I’ve only made two purchases, the xp-50 because I got a personal discount and looked it up and it’s been an amazing grinder and now during the sale I bought 180 days premium for only €20 in total I’m less than €30 in and it’s helped the grind tremendously especially combining the two for massive SL gains
In tanks they also foldered a bunch. The panther G used to not be foldered that got foldered. German bmp1 got foldered, TAM2C got foldered tanks also had their trees changed
A lot of players often end up being bound by SL rather than RP when it comes to unlocking the tech trees. There are two tactics to help offset the big SL costs. The first is to endeavor to postpone buying vehicles until gajin has a sale on SL vehicle costs. They do this a few times during the year, such as during their christmas/VE day/anniversary sales. The second is by buying vehicle modifications with GE. Normally I don't recommend buying modifications at full price, with the exception sometimes being high tier vehicles with abysmal stock syndrome that desperately need a good tier 1 weapon unlock to compete and get the ball rolling. However the GE cost of a modification decreases proportionally to your progress towards unlocking the modification. If the stars align and you are something like 98 or 99% done researching a modification, then sometimes it only costs 1 or 2 GE to buy that modification. Buying it with GE lets you skip buying it with SL. This can save you tens of thousands of SL for higher BR vehicle modifications. So, in essence, you are "buying" SL with GE at an effective rate that is SUBSTANTIALLY more in your favor than what it would cost you to convert GE to SL outright. The catch of course is you can't go crazy with this trick. It's relatively uncommon to be in a situation to arise, so it's more like finding some loose change on the street than a means to make bank. It's just something to keep in mind and consider if you finish a match and notice that the modification research progress is 99% done. Are you currently starving for SL and willing to spend a single digit sum of GE to finish the modification and bypass the SL purchase cost, or are you flush with an abundance of SL?
Third option. Subscribe to a premium account over the Christmas period when its on sale. It only works out as $6 AUD (4 USD) monthly if you are to buy 365 days. People spend far more on streaming services and Spotify alone on a subscription based service. They are becoming so common that WTs premium account cannot be discarded as another cash grab. It's just joined part of the average 2023 digital age. It just depends on where you'd rather sink your money. Not only will this print you so much more SL, but you cannot loose SL from crap matches and you'll make MORE RP. It's litteraly a Win Win Win.
What would be cool is if you finish a tech tree all the RP you get goes into a pool that you can then use on other tech trees or New vehicles that are added. I dont think this will ever be a thing but i wish it was. As an Example: If i have the entire USA tech tree unlocked and i thought i wanted to grind russia instead but didnt want to buy a premium for $100 CAD. i could use my american tree to grind the russian one
My 2 tips: One, thy just recently added the ability to activate backups during a match. So it now makes more sense to do that when you need to, rather than pre-activating them and binding them to a single vehicle. Two: for steam (and i assume console?) Users: NEVER buy anything via steam, or the ingame client if you have the game installed via steam. Valve charges a premium for their platform, and gaijin passes that cost on to you. its always cheaper to buy directly from the gaijin store.
Italian tech tree tanks and planes. Has become almost a dead lock. Stuck at 6.7 and low.teir. the grind becomes impossible at times. I mean I play just about every nation. But Italy and Germany right before jets and modern tanks it takes days to research. Got 4 kids can maybe get 10 games in if I'm lucky. Need a squad tbh.
The issue is not unlocking new vehicles, although that's bad and should be reduced so people can play more nations, grind more top tiers which will attract new playerbase The biggest problem is spading a vehicle, especially top tier where you need 700 kills per vehicles or 270k RP - now say you have 3 or more lineup, that's easily half to a million of RP Each game you can earn max 8k-20k RP with premium if you do well, it's just not enough RP Helicopter modules especially atgm is horrible to grind, 1hr of PVE gives you 30k-50k RP We have a lot of nations, aviaton, navy, helicopter, tanks, coastal and helicopter trees multiplied by almost 10 nations We are talking billions of RP needed, premium or not it takes months and years....we need faster grinding experience, maximum 300 kills
3:23 sadly that's not really true. At least for tank mains. Yes some tanks have been put in a folder, but the required amount of vehicles you need to research before being able to move up a rank, have been increased across the board. For example: you have to research EVERY rank IV tank in the Swedish tech tree before unlocking rank V...
I wish I could give advice with my 3600h I have gathered since 2014 but I may be the worst person to ask. My most advanced non premium plane is a first gen jet and most advanced tank is a vickers mk1. I am a british player but play almost all the nations so I am in rank 3 of most and 4 in a couple others. When I tell people how many hours I have they alwase assume I have top tier jets and are surprised when I tell them I have only entered the jet age last year.
so the strategy is to be a PRO Player? im noob in flying . im at 4.0 at usa tree. doing 1-10 kills in AB , not getting much points. i have Premium. the bad about RB flying is flyin like 10 min to enemy, getting killed in 2 seconds. getting none XP. the Bad about jets when you need to unlock all modifications. enemies with full build vehicle can kill you with rockets easy. its like when they show how much XP and SL doint with prem when have no Prem, like they add a buff to make it look bigger amount then it realy is.
If you are starting war thunder now, hear my advice. If you want to play jets, dont even bother without some premium jet. I started in early 2023. when i saw my favourite jet MiG29 come out. I started USA because i thought it has more variety. Long story short, without premium vehicle it took almost a year to get to rank 3 if you are not playing 24/7. By the time you reach jets you will be 50 years older. I just bought premium on christmas sale. War thunder grind is not worth it. It was easier to deck out money.
i got some premium a few weeks ago, i went from the mig21-MF to the first mig 29 on the german tech tree, i feel like they made it a bit easier to unlock new stuff. but the constant need for SL sucks tho. i had to go sealclubbing at lower tier with premiums to get enough SL to actually buy my new jets.
I've been playing War Thunder since 2013 and didn't get a tech tree like you, fully researched. Never got a Premium Account (except for the 5 days i've got free at the game)
what a mess,you can get a plane that costs 70 euros so you can grind your life for another one. with these extreme prices at least they should make all the vehicels available to buy with real money . better give 50-60 euros if you like the game than melt your bones on a chair.some people want to play a spacific plane,not all the tree. make it like dcs and end of story . this way their target group would be the airplane enthusiasts ,discard the trolls,and earn more money . whatever,they know better.

i overall agree but id say premum vechicales are better value then premum time as premum vechials can grind all trech trees lower then it and last forever it is even more worth it during sales a 1200 ge vechal costs the same amount as 6 days of premum for a bigger bonus that lasts forever. relisticly even if somone plays wt for 16 hours a day witch i dont recomend thats 64 mateches asuming 15min matches. relisticly if a player is useing that vechile to grind less then 1/3 of the total reserch of say the italan groudn tech tree as an example but any large tech tree will do it will be better value another thing to help with sl is turning off auto repair and playing mutable linups for difrent nations as they can repir simaltaosly

Air assualt arcade and ground assault arcade are filled with bots for teammates and they wait til the enemies get too close to the base and we always lose... Every time. I maybe have completed 1 of both all the way. Due to teammates just not doing the right thing or doing absolutely nothing

If you pay for gayjin, you just simply ruin the game for everyone! If you dont pay, they need fixing the issues (br decomp, toptier meta mess, engine mess). Backlash, boycotts, reviewbombing works (like in creative assemly case), but the best thing is not paying for this shit.

vehicles have been sorted by BR in Arcade, thats why some of the placemants are wierd like the f8f or Fw 190 D9
You forgot to mention arrows.
When there's an arrow between vehicles, the previous one can effectively grind the next one no matter the Tier gap between them.
That's very important for minor nations that have huge gaps between the vehicles. Japan is the best example: you can effectively research R2Y2 with B7A2 or Type 87 with SUB-I-II.
You also don't have to use the cursed F4-EJ to grind top tier! Pull out the F-1 and unlock the F-16, then slap a talisman on that!
And there is another important benefit about the arrows, you have a 130% efficienty bonus!
Which is why I use a variation on the unlock and spade everything way.
I use the arrow/efficiency bonus as much as possible but avoid the bonus from the modifications on porpuse (most of the time) on that vehicle. For 3 reasons, first: I don't need the modification bonus to unlock the next vehicle because of increased research. Second: those bonusses from the modifications allow me to unlock vehicles behind a vehicle a don't want to play. And lastly the 130% efiicienty bonus (or any other bonus) doesn't aply to the modification bonus (as explained in the video).
For example: I wanted to unlock the swedish T54 without playing the Challenger VII, so I used vehicles from lower tiers (even down to tier1) to unlock it by spading those lower tier vehicles.
Very good video on many important tips, but I felt this tip was missing a bit.
Its also fair to mention that if there is a folder, the folderd vehicle does not have this bonus to the next non-folderd vehicle
@@swegmann2345 This may have been a good advice few month ago, but right now F-1 sees too many uptiers. So I'd recommend either T-2 or F-4EJ, which currently plays 80% of games either in downtiers or against 11.3.

Example from the swedish techtree: both the Comet I and T-34-85 receive efficiency bonus from PT-76, but as you mentioned, the T34-85 doesn't receive a bonus from the Comet I.
Two tips that I think should be mentioned:
1) The bonus RP for completing a tier of module research does not get reduced for being outside the -1/+1 tier range.
2) When you unlock a vehicle and have leftover RP to allocate from a match, that *also* does not get reduced if it's outside the range.
These are obviously edge-case scenarios, but it does make it very easy to unlock low tier stuff with high tier planes if you skipped over them or if the snail added them after the fact.
The former, especially, is super useful.
I've been using the tier unlock bonuses for the Strv 122A, B and B+ to quickly complete the CV90 Fin which came out after I'd gone past it and I've been sweeping up.
Rank 8 might be out of effective researching range but the bonuses have absolutely barnstormed the unlock.
It's really efficient in the way that for exemple you have a tier 3 vehicle that u play well and your already far in the tech tree (like rank 6 ). you can play your tier 3 vehicle with a huge booster activated, research a rank 1 or 2 vehicle with it. All the leftover xp goes to any rank vehicle you want. So, sometimes if u did well u can have like 5000k Rp or more to put on a high rank vehicle just by playing a low tier aircraft u love.

@@randomthings3776 no, the modification research left over once spaded is lost. But if you need say 10k rp to unlock a vehicle, but get 15k rp in a match, the extra 5k rp when you select a new vehicle to research isn't penalized for any rank difference.
i used to exploit the latter strategy when sim rewards were still good. I would research some plane from rank 1-6 until it has like 1000 RP left and then i would take my ju 288 into a sim bombing match and absolutely hussle.
after finishing the research on that particular plane, i still have like 200,000 RP left which i can allocate to any top tier vehicle, although youre not supposed to be able to effectively research top tier vehicles with the rank V ju 288.
not really worth it anymore now, since they fucked sim rewards so much.

I grinded Most Rank 6 Jets with the F3D-1 because it gets an air spawn with two, 2,000 pound bombs and can get bases before anyone else typically. Good jet for anyone looking to grind the rank above it
I got a talisman for the A Sabre. Literally grinded all of the supersonics and Korean war era jets with it. Didnt play a single other F-86 lmao.
With the A i could basically outmaneuver anything in a 1v1 if we started with the same energy. Its a good and very agile plane but has a pretty weak engine.

Sim battles are way too underrated. They give more research and SL per in game XP than RB does, plus practically no one plays sim so it almost always turns into a PvE match where you can effortless grind out XP without worrying about losing a bunch of SL from getting shot down in an expensive jet.

Great video Tim! I'm sure it'll be pretty helpful for a lot of people coming into this game. A tip i learned from Tankenstein here on TH-cam which i think you should tell your viewers:
*If you're planning on buying premium time and are thinking of purchasing GE to get it, DON'T, it's quite a bit cheaper if you buy it on the Gaijin store directly.*
And on the sales throughout the year like the one we just had, there's usually 180 days of premium time for half off, which is an amazing deal.
I feel like more players are drawn to realistic at top tier and arcade low tier is pace of match, and how top tier WEP is significantly different in the performance output.
tricks I found are 1: when you find a good grinder, play it constantly until you get what you want, it may be dull but you get good at the plane, when grinding the MiG-29 i got so good with the 23 I got regular Ace matched in games full of 29s and F-16s.
2. play in the mornings when you can when you're refreshed and focused. I usually grinded before my late shift and could get around 120K RP in about 3 hours with premium

The grind is rough, even reasonable to say awful, even after the changes in air. The ground forces grind just went from hellish to an almost unnoticeably less deep circle of hellish. Truly contributes, at least I think, to that mode having the saltiest players and worst behavior, and deliberately crashing into allied bombers props for the "sin" of playing a bomber is something you won't get through a Saturday afternoon grind without seeing at least once. Ground is full of players rightfully frustrated at the game, wrongfully taking it out on each other.
Grind, salt and frustration are snail's primary monetization drivers so they aren't going away.
The main problem in grinding ground vehicles imo is that fact that the higher you get the less effective your tank is when you first unlock it. You basically have to spend 20 games hoping for 1 or 2 kills in a GRB game when playing stock rank 6 or 7 tanks. It is the most frustrating thing in the world and it is not even due to a lack of parts and fpe but literally having a round that is so infirior to the rounds you unlock later on. Its like flying a dual engine plane but you only unlock the second engine after you gained 10k rp... Grinding tier 7 mbts with heatfs shells vs using apfsds rounds is so annoyingly frustrating that players just abondon toptier vehicles at all. Im a GRB main for usa and I am litterly researching top tier vehicles while im most likely never going to play them. I really hope they going to implement a system where once you researched the entire tech tree of a faction you can use those vehicles to research maybe the firsst 3 or 4 tiers of another nation just like they just did with the option to research helicopters with ground rp. Sorry for the long post lol.
I think the grind for air rb is fine if you have premium. If you have premium time + premium planes it's an absolute breeze.
Ground is a different animal entirely.
The ground players TK'd bombers? That's an air thing. Maybe a Vor Tinder thing in general. They are more usually praise in ground
One thing I don’t see talked about lots is the fact that lots of more experienced players are staying lower in br.
Players who have rank 5 almost fully unlocked will drop down into br 3-7 more often. With more med-high skill players at low br’s, the amount of times you get sent back to the hanger with no more than a few hits for xp drastically increase.
It’s not really a problem with the game itself and that’s why it’s not talked about much but as a newer player trying to climb the British tech tree, it’s kinda crazy how often I encounter level 50-60 accounts.
Edit: After going into the game for a while, in a 3.7. I have concluded that 50-60 was an understatement. Played 5 games and every one had 3-4 level 90 accounts.
Its also worth pointing out air ab will always be a better mode if you are a below average player, yes even at jet teir, a player whos averaging
What sucks is that i have found there are large amounts of far more advanced accounts with players who have been playing for years are playing a lot more in the lower tiers.
I am not horrible at the game but I am by no means good. Every game I get destroyed and when i check the player cards, more often than not, the person who got me is level 80+ in a 3.7 br game. I know arcade is somewhat of a solution to this but to be honest, arcade and realistic are two completely different games and one is many times better than the other.

But if talking seriously, games sucks in making research lines because in most of them research moves in geometrical progression. Like you need 5-40k for low tiers, 40-70 for mid tiers, 100-250 for pred top and 300-400 for top tiers. And also gaijin desided to folder lots kf interesting and/or powerful vehicles in low tier(and then remove most of available skips making grind lots slower.
Buying 90/180/360 days with 50% is the best! It's dirt cheap, you get great value for your money and you support your favorite game
I think they need to rework the converting GE to RP rate from 45 RP per GE to 100 RP per GE !!
I'd say a good strategy is to research the tier, choose 1 vehicle and get expert crew with all mods. Grind one rank ahead, then repeat. Use lines with folders and pick up a bf-109 e-7/xp-50 for some sl grinding (or bomb in sb for sl)
My tip is to keep in mind that one thing all WT content creators seem to say: Try not to view the tech tree as the end goal, or rather don't measure your enjoyment of the game based on how quickly you're progressing down it. Yeah, there'll be some combinations of nations, vehicle type, and tech level that are absolute slogs, but there's plenty of fun to be had at most levels. Rank 2-3 ground is tons of fun because there's a ton of variety in both what you can drive and what you can face, things are relatively fast paced, and there aren't as many mechanics to worry about as there are in Cold War+ era stuff.
I did my American air tree very wierdly. I went down the bomber line as fast as I could, first for the B57, then for the Thud (MY BELOVED). I would exploit breaks in the TT lines and differing lengths of certain lines to get to the next rank for bombers faster. I used the first B25 until I researched the B24 liberator. Why, you may ask? Because I am a slave to Gaijin and refuse to by GE or do anything of logic. Working towards the F15 (RAHHHHH🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅) using my F111(MY BELOVED RAHHHHHH).
Another good thing to keep in mind when purchasing premium vehicles: The crew train cost is significantly less to train a crew to an experienced slot

If you dont have a premium account, turn off the auto repair thing!!! This has saved me so much money over the years. Especially if you play GRB a lot. A whole line up that you play could cost about 50k to repair, but if you only wanted to play it once with friends or something theres no need to repair those vehicles.
I had it turned off even with premium but now when they changed it to compensate for any SL losses after a bad game, if you have it turned off you dont get compensated. So turn it on if you have premium.
It adds up seriously.

you missed a very important strategy for buying premium time. Premium goes on sale for 50% off twice a year ( I think it's on april fools and during the anniversary sale.) You can then buy the 1 year or the half year premium time and then you have it all year round. the 1 year and the half year premium are the most efficient in terms of days of premium per GE spent.

5:13 Hey Tim, great video overall. I believe you may have misspoke here though; the bonus you get is 414 RP, the 2070 is the total cost of all the modifications in that tier (required to get the bonus).
Once or twice a year you can get premium time at 1/2 off (normally around November / December for anniversary, winter sale, and even summer sale) and get a full year of premium for about $40.
Larger GE packs and premium time are cheaper on the web store than on Steam/client.
The easiest way to grind ground is to stay at a BR range of 0.3 of each vic (such as only 3.0 and 3.3 vics) and stick with that until you have at least 3 vehicles of the next rank before moving up. Having more things to spawn in = more team contribution which = higher chance of winning which = those nice bonuses Tim was mentioning. Don't get that first shiny new vehicle in the next rank and be a "one-death leaver".
Buy a top tier premium and prem time. Thats it. Everything else is pure suffering
i have seen up to 6 vehicles required to unlock the next rank, but usually it moves around 3-5 with higher ranks needing less
The set number of vehicles you need per rank is usually 6 with a few exceptions like im pretty sure rank 6 or 7 in japan you only need 1
The problem I have with premium time is that it feels forced on you even when you no longer pay for premium time they say “hey we noticed you did not pay for premium time would you like to cough up the funds” I get that they need money but after paying for the wyvern probably a year ago 6ish months after it ran out I’d get a notification right after login saying give me money for less pain and it made no sense for it to continue for 6 fucking months after the little 15 day premium time ran out I get they need money I feel like I shouldn’t be forced to pay it and warthunder players being brain dead as they are just throw their wallet at them yeah I can play a different game but wargaming sucks at anything in the suck dcs is expensive and warthunder is happy medium of arcade and sim but I feel like I shouldn’t be force to pay to play in a free to play

I'll be mentioning that topic in a channel update dropping soon, but the short answer is that the eligibility for that "level" is determined entirely by average views-per-video over a several month period, and my routine weekly Wednesday updates are nowhere near qualifying. I'd need to roughly triple (or more) the raw quantity of views before I could even apply.
Meanwhile, tiktokers posting brainrot meme content, and youtubers with technomusic kill montages, have 10 times my reach and get affiliate partnership easily .....

assault arcade isn't worth it, the booster merely compensates for wasted time on bad arcade rewards. Just play 1 realistic match and you get more then the boosters could ever have given.
How to efficiently grind tech trees in warthunder: Dont. You have a life and loved ones waste your time with your loved ones not with digital crack.
Additionally you should never fully spade the last vehicles in your tech tree until an update releases so that you do not throw away your tier rp bonuses. You can also strategically have tiers ready to complete so you can spade multiple vehicles very quickly when new vehicles release and get lots of bonus rp to shorten the grind or outright unlock new vehicles.
They should just link this video in the tutorial, and save people the trouble. Thank you!
I really wish WT went the extra mile and added some more things to make the grind easier like giving 2x exp on weekends or during festivities (or for the first match of the day with that vehicle) like World of Tanks used to do or how Armoured Warfare does it or _especially,_ take something i love about Armoured Warfare which is a research bonus for every vehicle unlocked and owned for a specific tech tree, it would incentivize getting foldered equipment aswell
Because, let's face it, unless you're B-Lining a specific top tier vehicle in a specific nation and ONLY PLAY THAT, it'll take you a while to get what you want, I've been playing semi-regularly (3-4 days a week of WT for a minimum of a couple of hours give or take) since 2017 if I don't remember wrong and I only recently got to 8.7 with both planes, helicopters and tanks (and 5.7 with ships) with italy, but I'm also at 5.0 with the US and Russia and soon with Japan too for air and ground trees (and ships), it's very inefficient BUT IT'S SO BORING TO ONLY PLAY TANKS/ONLY PLAY AIR FOR ONE NATION UNTILL I GET WHAT I WANT

Touching on the "Spading everything" advancement strategy that you talked about: It is relatively hard to impossible to grind out and buy all modifications and still be able to buy and crew the next vehicle. I do this most of the time and I found that even if i'm really good with one vehicle, unless I have a high SL booster, the SL I earn during the grind will barely ever be enough for the purchase cost of the next vehicle. I tend to grind all of the fighters first and spade them as I go. When I have to farm SL I'm researching the attackers and bombers. That way I still research every vehicle but I don't play the ones I don't like to play and still maintain enough SL to buy the ones I'm interested in. I usually buy bombers when there's a SL sale, so I'll only pay half price.
This is what I do. I only buy a new vehicle after I spade the one I am using and the next one I buy is one I like and fits into a lineup. Dont buy vehicles that don't complete a lineup. Work on spading one vehicle at a time. While you unlock all those around it. This is a game to have fun on also. You normally get battle trophies when you spade out a vehicle I have 8 talismans this way. Even f2p I had enough sl even before the economy changes. Wagers and boosters are useful. Points for caps mean more then kills. Cheers.
you don't need to buy the modifications to get the bonuses, you can fly the plane stock the entire time or only buy important things like missiles/bombs. flight performance will be a little worse but that doesn't matter if you are never going to fly it afterwards. same with the crew, never buy the crew qualification unless you plan on playing the thing long-term. it super helpful to have, but just a massive waste of credits if you only play the thing for a few days.

An additional tip for more experienced players:
During special events where Gaijin offers those Silver Lion loot boxes, it is very much worth it to open them solely for boosters (and backups if you play ground rb).
If you are using a premium account and/or premium vehicle, you will very quickly make up for the Silver Lion cost with the boosters it provides, in addition to a ton more Research Points.
I would rather expert crews on vehicles with those SLs than spend it on the loot crates. Expecting a crew is more permanent

Started playing again this year and been grinding air trees. Got my first tier 8 this summer and now have multiple. Grinding into MiG 29 next after F15.
Every time i come back to this game, my previously grinded lines have been expanded and broken by more plane variants in folders. Gaijin knows full well why they're doing this and so do we. Good luck reaching any of the higher ranks without premium in any reasonable amount of time.

My biggest top tip after playing this game for like 10 years now is to concentrate on playing just to have fun rather than getting your reward from the next unlock... Because that's a very quick way to get frustrated and turn toxic and we shouldn't let Gaijin do that to us in our leisure time.

10:15 you can actually play assault as much as you want, you just only get a booster for completing it the first time. its how i ground out tanks with bad shells in low tier, then once i had a better shell i went into GRB
The quickest way to farm out a tech tree is to buy the max available tier premium vehicle+premium time.

the rewards you are getting in sim CAN be higher than rb. unless you get a lot of kills fast. every 15 minutes it evaluates what you did and gives you an activity value and gives you that much of what you could get. now that seems fair and simple, up to the point where it seems one kill means 90%, 2kills might be 93%, 3 kills 95%, and anything more just makes you approach the 99% but you will never break through that 100% barrier 16:55

I’m a very casual player. I only play sim because I care more for the feel of piloting a plane rather than just competitive killing. My HUD is off and all. I like it. I spent around 3-4 years on a normal account playing some months and some I didn’t touch the game. Always worried about my SL and got to the first F-86. After that I gave premium account a try and in around 2 months I’m currently unlocking my last jet before trying out the top tier.

Hey Tim, another great video. One thing, though that you didn’t mention that I feel like is worthy of talking about is when it comes to grinding a tree it’s important to know what you want to play and what you don’t care about. For example, I recently unlocked the leopard 2a7v and I consider myself at top tier for German ground forces. However, I stopped grinding the tank destroyer line for Germany around the time you got the first missile carrier. I just didn’t really care too much about these vehicles because they aren’t really all that meta-and I don’t really feel like using them granted I know that the missile weasel is quite good and cheesy but I just don’t care about it enough for me to grind it right now instead, I decidedI’m going to start using ground research for helicopters because I really want the tiger helicopter so I would advise people grinding out a text to figure out if a certain line of vehicles is interesting to them and if it isn’t don’t bother grinding it more than you have to for rank progression.
I rarely like to buy mtx I’ve only made two purchases, the xp-50 because I got a personal discount and looked it up and it’s been an amazing grinder and now during the sale I bought 180 days premium for only €20 in total I’m less than €30 in and it’s helped the grind tremendously especially combining the two for massive SL gains

A lot of players often end up being bound by SL rather than RP when it comes to unlocking the tech trees. There are two tactics to help offset the big SL costs. The first is to endeavor to postpone buying vehicles until gajin has a sale on SL vehicle costs. They do this a few times during the year, such as during their christmas/VE day/anniversary sales.
The second is by buying vehicle modifications with GE. Normally I don't recommend buying modifications at full price, with the exception sometimes being high tier vehicles with abysmal stock syndrome that desperately need a good tier 1 weapon unlock to compete and get the ball rolling. However the GE cost of a modification decreases proportionally to your progress towards unlocking the modification. If the stars align and you are something like 98 or 99% done researching a modification, then sometimes it only costs 1 or 2 GE to buy that modification. Buying it with GE lets you skip buying it with SL. This can save you tens of thousands of SL for higher BR vehicle modifications. So, in essence, you are "buying" SL with GE at an effective rate that is SUBSTANTIALLY more in your favor than what it would cost you to convert GE to SL outright. The catch of course is you can't go crazy with this trick. It's relatively uncommon to be in a situation to arise, so it's more like finding some loose change on the street than a means to make bank. It's just something to keep in mind and consider if you finish a match and notice that the modification research progress is 99% done. Are you currently starving for SL and willing to spend a single digit sum of GE to finish the modification and bypass the SL purchase cost, or are you flush with an abundance of SL?

Subscribe to a premium account over the Christmas period when its on sale. It only works out as $6 AUD (4 USD) monthly if you are to buy 365 days.
People spend far more on streaming services and Spotify alone on a subscription based service. They are becoming so common that WTs premium account cannot be discarded as another cash grab. It's just joined part of the average 2023 digital age. It just depends on where you'd rather sink your money.
Not only will this print you so much more SL, but you cannot loose SL from crap matches and you'll make MORE RP.
It's litteraly a Win Win Win.

What would be cool is if you finish a tech tree all the RP you get goes into a pool that you can then use on other tech trees or New vehicles that are added. I dont think this will ever be a thing but i wish it was.
As an Example: If i have the entire USA tech tree unlocked and i thought i wanted to grind russia instead but didnt want to buy a premium for $100 CAD. i could use my american tree to grind the russian one

My 2 tips: One, thy just recently added the ability to activate backups during a match. So it now makes more sense to do that when you need to, rather than pre-activating them and binding them to a single vehicle.
Two: for steam (and i assume console?) Users: NEVER buy anything via steam, or the ingame client if you have the game installed via steam. Valve charges a premium for their platform, and gaijin passes that cost on to you. its always cheaper to buy directly from the gaijin store.

Italian tech tree tanks and planes. Has become almost a dead lock. Stuck at 6.7 and low.teir. the grind becomes impossible at times. I mean I play just about every nation. But Italy and Germany right before jets and modern tanks it takes days to research. Got 4 kids can maybe get 10 games in if I'm lucky. Need a squad tbh.
The issue is not unlocking new vehicles, although that's bad and should be reduced so people can play more nations, grind more top tiers which will attract new playerbase
The biggest problem is spading a vehicle, especially top tier where you need 700 kills per vehicles or 270k RP - now say you have 3 or more lineup, that's easily half to a million of RP
Each game you can earn max 8k-20k RP with premium if you do well, it's just not enough RP
Helicopter modules especially atgm is horrible to grind, 1hr of PVE gives you 30k-50k RP
We have a lot of nations, aviaton, navy, helicopter, tanks, coastal and helicopter trees multiplied by almost 10 nations
We are talking billions of RP needed, premium or not it takes months and years....we need faster grinding experience, maximum 300 kills

Yes some tanks have been put in a folder, but the required amount of vehicles you need to research before being able to move up a rank, have been increased across the board. For example: you have to research EVERY rank IV tank in the Swedish tech tree before unlocking rank V...

I wish I could give advice with my 3600h I have gathered since 2014 but I may be the worst person to ask. My most advanced non premium plane is a first gen jet and most advanced tank is a vickers mk1. I am a british player but play almost all the nations so I am in rank 3 of most and 4 in a couple others. When I tell people how many hours I have they alwase assume I have top tier jets and are surprised when I tell them I have only entered the jet age last year.

im noob in flying . im at 4.0 at usa tree. doing 1-10 kills in AB , not getting much points. i have Premium.
the bad about RB flying is flyin like 10 min to enemy, getting killed in 2 seconds. getting none XP.
the Bad about jets when you need to unlock all modifications. enemies with full build vehicle can kill you with rockets easy.
its like when they show how much XP and SL doint with prem when have no Prem, like they add a buff to make it look bigger amount then it realy is.
If you are starting war thunder now, hear my advice. If you want to play jets, dont even bother without some premium jet. I started in early 2023. when i saw my favourite jet MiG29 come out. I started USA because i thought it has more variety. Long story short, without premium vehicle it took almost a year to get to rank 3 if you are not playing 24/7. By the time you reach jets you will be 50 years older. I just bought premium on christmas sale. War thunder grind is not worth it. It was easier to deck out money.
i got some premium a few weeks ago, i went from the mig21-MF to the first mig 29 on the german tech tree, i feel like they made it a bit easier to unlock new stuff. but the constant need for SL sucks tho. i had to go sealclubbing at lower tier with premiums to get enough SL to actually buy my new jets.

what a mess,you can get a plane that costs 70 euros so you can grind your life for another one. with these extreme prices at least they should make all the vehicels available to buy with real money . better give 50-60 euros if you like the game than melt your bones on a chair.some people want to play a spacific plane,not all the tree.
make it like dcs and end of story . this way their target group would be the airplane enthusiasts ,discard the trolls,and earn more money .

i overall agree but id say premum vechicales are better value then premum time as premum vechials can grind all trech trees lower then it and last forever it is even more worth it during sales a 1200 ge vechal costs the same amount as 6 days of premum for a bigger bonus that lasts forever. relisticly even if somone plays wt for 16 hours a day witch i dont recomend thats 64 mateches asuming 15min matches. relisticly if a player is useing that vechile to grind less then 1/3 of the total reserch of say the italan groudn tech tree as an example but any large tech tree will do it will be better value another thing to help with sl is turning off auto repair and playing mutable linups for difrent nations as they can repir simaltaosly

Air assualt arcade and ground assault arcade are filled with bots for teammates and they wait til the enemies get too close to the base and we always lose... Every time. I maybe have completed 1 of both all the way. Due to teammates just not doing the right thing or doing absolutely nothing
