And why he never learned to do anything on his own. Because she babied him through helicopter parenting his entire life. Instead of letting him make mistakes, learn from them, fall down and scrape his knee, learn from it etc. It's a huge issue nowadays. Weren't many of those kinds of parents when I was young. It is really hard to sacrifice your dreams and accept losing all great opportunities that can make you fill fulfilled. It is like giving up on your life. On the other hand, doing this for your family is such a great and generous act. George is a great dad and a kind soul. He forces himself to accept less of his life so his family can receive more.
I have a friend VERY MUVH LIKE MARY,A RELIGE 4:53 US ZEALOT! Ive had to stop having anything to do with her. My friend Claims her "Christian love" but is as Bigoted as they come.,and just will not see it! It is TOXIC. Even at Amy and Sheldon's wedding she made Mark Hamil include "God" in his opening statement disrespecting Amy's& Sheldon's atheists beliefs. Best thing to do is stay Away from people like Mary and " my friend"! Better off !

Mary is the main reason no one's growing in the family. She thinks she's protecting everyone, but she has done nothing but hold them back in everything. She does what's best for her and pretends as if it's in the family's best interest. It happened with George, Georgie, Sheldon & Missy too.
Georgie at the end was so sweet, trying to distract and protect Missy. Georgie may not have been the perfect kid, but he definitely had his good moments
Not that it's ever an excuse to cheat, but it does also explain why he did it. You have to admit, during their interactions Brenda always seemed to support him more than his own wife. And anyways she also seemed to be eyeing Pastor Rob as well in the process, so she's not exactly innocent when it came to Adulatory in the relationship. And besides it's to be expected that their relationship was not going to work out in the long run considering their marriage was based upon Mary getting pregnant as a teen and decided to be a good Christian by marrying him so they wouldn't have a child out of wed lock, even though they eventually get Missy and Sheldon later, but with that I would assume was when their relationship was still stable, but it soon catches up, resentment, sacrifice, the harsh reality of a relationship you thought was right for you not being right for you at all in the end. It's not a surprise to a lot of people that when a couple is on the brink of getting a divorce, you hear of them staying and trying to work out something that was lost a long time ago for the sake of their children, describing that sang "just because you have a child with someone, doesn't mean they are the person for you." Resentment, is the main huge factor in this, obviously on George's side of him possibly going into the NFL or something along the lines of playing Football, I remember him mentioning on one of the episodes, but obviously when he got his gf pregnant everything changed for him, and obviously Mary probably had dreams too, and eventually years down the line throughout their marriage as it starts to crumble and they argue, if you listen and watch closely, the actors are really good at showing and hinting at the fact that their characters have taken in those years of resentment until it finally blew up and they put it on each other. Like when Mary says's something along the line "It's always about what YOU want", sure it's pretty much self explanatory, but if you hear her tone carefully, once again the actress is really good at showing this, you can see there is a hint of projection, where it means a lot more of her insinuating that he loves to complain about the sacrifices he makes, but also the fact that he forgets she has her own sacrifices she has made as well, in translation "You're not the only one in this relationship who didn't want this life, yet here we are!!!" Edit: The fact that High School Relationships usually don't last because they are 97% a joke, but they had no choice, their relationship was doomed from the beginning slowly but surely
@@binkmuk Agreed. Every time George is given an opportunity, Mary finds some way for him not to go through with it. She could have been a lot more supportive and understanding. Moving is a big decision, but they could have discussed it as a family instead of Mary having the final say.
I love Mewmaw, but she's so mean with George. She never appreciated how hard he worked, and how much he loved and cared for his family. It's true he got Mary pregnant BUT SHE WAS ALSO THERE, but Connie decided to blame on him forever. They never acknowledged George's sacrifices. And that's why they lost him.
Why on earth is mary crying. She started it. The whole thing is her fault. And she doesn't even SEE it. She cares more about her 'baby' sheldon, who she always calls 'baby,' and her dumb church. Only once, during this whole series, so far, has she ever shown kindness to george sr, and that was when he lost his job, or was about to. I know he quit, but he had already been told he would b out of there at the end of the school year. He just wanted his dignity, and quit early.
It’s called playing the victim which Mary did to perfection. George wanted the best for the family but Mary being the poison she is went “it’s my way or no way”

We've been watching the reruns of Young Sheldon, (we didn't start watching the show until this past year) and in my opinion Mary is the reason the adult Sheldon is a nutcase. She hardly ever finds fault with his obnoxious behavior. If George had been able to 'corral' Sheldon into being a normal human being (and I don't mean by physical punishment) without Mary's constant interfering, Sheldon would have grown up to have been a happier adult.
@@WilliamMorales-ke3rwI disagree. Being physically published for honest behavior is a bad way to go about things. Sitting the kid down and explaining how things run in society would produce a better outcome.
I mean... Mary just doesn't want to leave Texas. Or her mom which is her safety blanket. There were a few times when George had a job lined up that payed him more, or would offer sheldon a better education but she said no cause she didn't want to. Sheldon is the most like her.
I don’t like marry she is hypocrite and selfish when it comes to her own husband. George works hard to provide for his family yet his opinions goes straight in trash. I hated Mary. She’s a horrible mother and a horrible spouse. Jeff is a close second. he acted like a friend but when Georgie knocked up Mandy, he dropped her like a hot potato. Just the fact that the church who fired her did the funeral services for George Sr was infuriating to say the least
The beginning of the end of Mary and George. While they've had several fights, it won't be long before George cheats with Brenda, and his inevitable death.

@@Felipera_ It's all in good fun. I never watched that show. I'm sure is was good. And I think the libs are trying to ban the use of GOAT now too!!!! Peace.
Didn't see anyone else point this out, but Mary was in the wrong for saying George was "twisting the kids heads around". He talked to them about it, and gave them some insight and the chance to give an opinion on whether they wanted to move or not. A whole lot more consideration for their feelings than Mary has shown.
George deserves better literally no one supports him , he’s pretty much just someone who lives with the family apparently in their eyes. No support from his wife and still has to juggle dealing with his mother in law, it was a good opportunity not only for him but for the family. Mary tends to manipulate everyone and judges them and uses religion as both a shield and sword against others.
As long as Mary yells & screams for the intention of getting her way as usual, she's happy. Why did she think that bringing up the intention of moving at the Thanksgiving day table is okay? Poor George!! No wonder he died before his time!!!
So George died early in self-defense. I see it now. His heart attack wasn't triggered exclusively by the food... it was the stress of being with a woman like that. She killed him with pork chops and cold shoulders.
This eP was rlly annoying, George never really liked his job and the fact that he had a big promotion meant that he had talent, he sacrificed a lot for his family.
Mary just proves the point that now we understand by Sheldon thinks he can rule everyone just like his mother. Like his mother only he can make decisions.

Ladies if you're ever "I'm tired of this marriage. I want to utterly destroy it and sew its earth with salt", this is how to do it. Just make your husband keep asking "Who TF died and put you in charge of everything?"
George sr. Tried... Tried really hard to keep his love for Mary going... I wish she'd done the same for him... In "wanting to do the right thing", she and her mom often did just what they "Wanted" ... I wish Connie as a third person took an objective point of view rather than hating on George all the time... Mary really got lucky when she married George... She couldn't have done any better...
George Sr could have guilt tripped Mary by quoting Genesis 2:24 "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” LAST TIME I CHECKED THE WIFE HAS TO DO THE SAME AS WELL!
When she said 2 different Ghostbuster cartoons holy shit that takes me back. I used to watch The Real Ghostbusters 1986 as a kid on VHS and that was in the early 2000s. Such a great dam show...
Mary was in the wrong here. She knows of the enmity between George and her mother but brought her in anyway in a discussion that was bound to be emotionally volatile. And pulling this stuff at Thanksgiving dinner is just very poor form
I think wanting to hold the family together and provide stability for the kids is more important than money. It sucks to move during a kids school years. Move before school or after, but not during.
George goes now to the new job; Mary and the kids follow when school year ends. Memaw could move...or not. I don't see the problem. It's what a lot of families did, do and done.
George can move there first then when the school year ends mary and the kids move to tulsa and live with george. And if mary cares so much about being with her mom, connie can move with them too no? And the extra money could have really helped the family
“Our excellent school system that provides our children with a world-class education.” The amount of denial is just laughable at this point. Mary is too far gone.
My dad stormed out on thanksgiving once,he got into an argument with my moms brother, who has a lot of problems, talking to him is like talking to a brick wall, anyway they got into a fight and dad stormed off to his bedroom, while everyone else just looked at each other,my mom wasn’t too happy, luckily it never happened again and every thanksgiving and Christmas dinner after that had been very nice.
gosh Mary is unbearable...watching this show really showed me who was to blame for the absolute disaster of a human being Sheldon turned out to be later in life as seen on the big bang theory
Mary always thinks her decisions are the best thing for her family, but her decisions are holding all her kids back from their full potential. She never treated George with much respect and when they fight, she goes to her mother for help because Connie is ALWAYS gonna agree with her. It disgusts me that she always thinks low of George, but ironically George is a better parent than she is. It makes sense why Sheldon turned into the selfish, know-it-all who was never willing to accommodate with anyone because he hated change, that's exactly how Mary is acting here. She was often clueless about the times George made deep sacrifices for his family. Instead she thinks his life is easy and that she does everything for the family. I haven't even mentioned how she clearly picks favorites when it comes to her 3 kids. She obviously favors Sheldon because he's a goodie two shoes and never does anything dumb. Missy and Georgie often show their potential with their skills, but she dismisses them and instead gives all her attention to Sheldon and coddles him because of his fragile size and personality I gotta give major props to Zoey Perry, she does a great job at making many people hate her character.
Mary gets so angry at Georgie for having the same situation she was in when she got pregnant and got married. Mary & her mother are terrible awful women. They show no respect for George. Instead of being a caring mother, Mary could only think of what the church people would think. Mary character was is just exactly like the woman in our old home. My neighbor said "I hope she doesn't get herself pregnant". However, me being me I did ask if she knew that it takes more than the female person to make a baby. Sure enough the girl got married to my neighbors son. And, their marriage lasted almost 2 years. My neighbor just wouldn't leave them alone.
I mean seems to me from what I seen that George was always just trying to make things better for his family, made lot of sacrifices for all of them and never seemed to get as much appreciation as he deserved especially from Mary mainly because she seemed to place her attention to her religion above any kind of appreciation or thanks to him. Kind of hypocritical of her to act all high and mighty and all here...and yet later in life when Sheldon goes to visit her in Texas he sees her in a rather intimate moment with some dude and she ain't even married to either. Kinda paints Mary in a different picture though doesn't it? Would think being such a religious person like she always claims to be that she wouldn't do stuff like that
The most religious ones invariably turn out to be the most hypocritical. :-) Mary is no different. In Season 6 she realises the downside of religiosity too when people in her church refuse to accept her because of Georgie's illegitimate affair.
Mary is really selfish and if her husband would cheat on her with another woman, especially with Brenda, I would agree with him❤ . And Connie his awful too towards his son in law😢
Mary is a selfish person. She's a good person, but if she wants something, she'll sacrifice other people to get it, like when Sheldon was accepted into Cal Tech and she hid that fact from both Sheldon AND George, just because she wanted to keep Sheldon around longer.

Hell, we did crazy stuff and had essentially from end of school until the street lights came on as unsupervised (generally) peer to peer time to do stupid shit and get in trouble, make mistakes etc.

Just like Many in todays Political RELIGIOUSLY CHRISTIAN HYPOCRISY, Mary is ALWAYS RIGHT but really Always Wrong.
I hated Mary in this episode, she’s childish, manipulative and selfish . What kind of mother would give up her family and children’s future , hopes and dreams just cause she doesn’t wanna grow up and move away from her mother? And hell if Connie really gave a damn she’d move with them.
Connie could've had a secret casino in Oklahoma.
Mary is the most selfish character on the show. I wouldn't blame George for divorcing Mary. She's controlling, selfish, cold-hearted, and rude.
So is Sheldon
@@FredJensen4745 Obviously
Like when Mary says's something along the line "It's always about what YOU want", sure it's pretty much self explanatory, but if you hear her tone carefully, once again the actress is really good at showing this, you can see there is a hint of projection, where it means a lot more of her insinuating that he loves to complain about the sacrifices he makes, but also the fact that he forgets she has her own sacrifices she has made as well, in translation "You're not the only one in this relationship who didn't want this life, yet here we are!!!"
Edit: The fact that High School Relationships usually don't last because they are 97% a joke, but they had no choice, their relationship was doomed from the beginning slowly but surely
@@binkmuk Agreed. Every time George is given an opportunity, Mary finds some way for him not to go through with it. She could have been a lot more supportive and understanding. Moving is a big decision, but they could have discussed it as a family instead of Mary having the final say.
I think you a bit hash Mary has ALWAYS had good intentions for her children but she is a bitch to gore sr somtimes
@Christopher Bingham You honestly think a woman would take responsibility for something she did?
@Christopher Bingham if you truly watch young sheldon you can see Mary absolutely never was prepared to take responsibility for her actions
It’s called playing the victim which Mary did to perfection. George wanted the best for the family but Mary being the poison she is went “it’s my way or no way”

@Christopher Bingham Can't get fired from a job that you quit a few years before! Moron.

George was my absolute favourite on the show. Unsung hero in that bunch!
I like the word nutcase. Very funny!
Not necessarily happier, but definitely more mature. He wouldn't have been the obnoxious manchild we Met from season 1 to 8 of TBBT
Some physical punishment wouldn't have hurt
@@WilliamMorales-ke3rwI disagree. Being physically published for honest behavior is a bad way to go about things. Sitting the kid down and explaining how things run in society would produce a better outcome.
@@WilliamMorales-ke3rwphysical punishment teaches nothing but fear and violence.
George is a great dad with serious skills if Mary only recognized
I mean... Mary just doesn't want to leave Texas. Or her mom which is her safety blanket. There were a few times when George had a job lined up that payed him more, or would offer sheldon a better education but she said no cause she didn't want to. Sheldon is the most like her.
0:33 george was definitely thinking why did god take all the credit for their home😅
Georges the reason they aint fucking homeless
I don’t like marry she is hypocrite and selfish when it comes to her own husband. George works hard to provide for his family yet his opinions goes straight in trash. He has no place in any decision making it’s only her that gets to decide what is best for the kids. Then she is way submissive within church community. She listens to pastor Jeff as if it’s her god. I feel for George. He deserves better
George had every right to be pissed, and Mary kept pushing his boundaries and made the decision on her own, even worse, never showed gratitude
The beginning of the end of Mary and George. While they've had several fights, it won't be long before George cheats with Brenda, and his inevitable death.
can we problem him though
Although now we know that he didn't sleep with Brenda
Mary Plays the role well as a mother her facial reaction in every situation she really act great.. and every characters has such a great acting role... I like this movie and the writer, directors, producer, actors and actresses

With George as the main breadwinner, and him taking that job, Mary should have backed him
Mary squashed any attempt at career progression for George and the family as they would have had a better life.
👏👏🎯🎯
Lol Mary off crying to her mom again, George had no one so often I swear
To a mom, when her child cries, it's heartbreaking, so of course Connie comforts her daughter and not George (while Mary made a mistake).
And when you take his alcohol use into account, yep, Mary is definitely the reason why George went on a downward spiral.

I love how they casted Laurie metcalf’s daughter to play a younger version of Mary because when you watch Young Sheldon and Big Bang theory back to back it really feels like the same character even when it’s portrayed by two different people.
The woman George Sr. married sent that poor unappreciated man to an early grave. 😢
I have to agree with George, despite being a hardcore baptist Mary twists stuff alot to get everyone on her side and stack up against George. She'll also say a remark here and there then get made when someone else does the samething. I feel bad for George, all series long Mary has done this numerous times

George sr. Tried... Tried really hard to keep his love for Mary going... I wish she'd done the same for him... In "wanting to do the right thing", she and her mom often did just what they

Mary and Connie were so stupid to let this opportunity pass and they wonder why they were poor lmao.
Mary had her mom living across the street and she didn't want to go anywhere else. George could have come back home every few days.
lol. You don't have any brain cells just potatos in there.
What non sense ! Why would he be coming back and fourth ? Mary could have often visited her mother instead of ruining George’s career
You know, in _The Big Bang Theory,_ Sheldon mentioned that Meemaw grew up in Oklahoma. I guess that's no longer canon.

TBBT had both Sheldon and Mary portraying George negatively. The actual story was quite different.
Obviously Mary doesn't get that a marriage is supposed to be a partnership. She has no right to decide George's work situation.
I love George
George is awesome
The worst part is your parents fighting while your friends are at your home😫
Georgie always looking out for his family
I think wanting to hold the family together and provide stability for the kids is more important than money. It sucks to move during a kids school years. Move before school or after, but not during.
When you're the only one making the money, money is pretty important.
Poor george always making sacrifices.
Young Sheldon is so different with TBBT, the emotion part is so much that you can understand each character feelings..
“Our excellent school system that provides our children with a world-class education.”
The amount of denial is just laughable at this point. Mary is too far gone.

gosh Mary is unbearable...watching this show really showed me who was to blame for the absolute disaster of a human being Sheldon turned out to be later in life as seen on the big bang theory
I feel bad for George always gotta Sacrifice for his family and always looking out for his kids and trying to earn more money for his Family
Missy and Georgie often show their potential with their skills, but she dismisses them and instead gives all her attention to Sheldon and coddles him because of his fragile size and personality
I gotta give major props to Zoey Perry, she does a great job at making many people hate her character.
The last part is what i said!!😂
Love watching young Sheldon..♥️🫶♥️
3:27 "Alright who talked?"-George
"Who do you think?"-Mary
"Missy."-George
"Yup. "- Missy
Mary is really selfish and if her husband would cheat on her with another woman, especially with Brenda, I would agree with him❤ .
And Connie his awful too towards his son in law😢
4:53 was my favorite part
I would've got divorced without thinking twice, I don't wanna be living with someone who doesn't want me to grow.
Mary is a selfish person. She's a good person, but if she wants something, she'll sacrifice other people to get it, like when Sheldon was accepted into Cal Tech and she hid that fact from both Sheldon AND George, just because she wanted to keep Sheldon around longer.
And telling off George in front of his kids? Not cool, Connie!
