    Excellent work, as we've come to expect from this channel. The RS3 strikes me as a more powerful and up-market version of the Subaru WRX STI, and when you factor the cost of a tastefully modified STI, the cost of the RS3 may seem more reasonable. While it's a shame that you weren't able to film on the more open roads east of the mountains, the backroads of east King County seem quite appropriate.

  • @seinsmeld13

    Very good review as we have a 2019 Nardo Gray RS 3 too. Only issue was the 19-inch wheels which are not a good configuration in our opinion. Had the same opinion of our 2015 Golf R with its 19-incher's.
    New 18-inch Neuspeed RSE10 wheels and Michelin 245/40/18 got rid of the bad road noise and harsh road feel over bad country roads. Been driving for 62 years but really don't understand why the 19" wheels are so popular, with their really harsh contirbution to the Audi RS 3!

    • @rodpaine7552
      @rodpaine7552 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now at 16,062 miles our 2019 RS 3 continues to impress us now with 11,440 of our total mileage being fast country back road mileage! The tires/wheels we installed have served us extremely well. The transmission is much smoother when shifting now at this mileage of use and the RS 3 seems to have simply become 'broken in' and now running quite a bit smoother. A great automobile indeed.

    • @rodpaine7552
      @rodpaine7552 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now at 25,437 miles with 18,315 miles being fast country back road runs, 10am-2pm weekdays only! The Michelin A/S3+ 245/40/18 are now at 5.5mm remaining tread and will be replaced shortly with same size Michelin Pilot Sport 4S All weather shortly. A/S3+ have been discontinued. No issues what so ever have surfaced and we certainly enjoy what this automobile delivers, given
      my 64 years of fast vehicle performance experience! Certainly fortunate I am still able to continue!

    • @rodpaine7552
      @rodpaine7552 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now at 39,174 miles of which 28,205 miles have been very fast country back road runs, the Audi continues to put big smiles on our old faces. We're still
      making our 3 days a week back road runs 10am -2pm midweek as weather
      permits. Our 2019 Audi RS 3 is certainly a keeper! And a truly great automobile!

      Do you still have your S3 ? I’ve driven that car twice this year and it is quick and fun but I fear that if I buy it , I’ll start daydreaming about the RS3 within 6 months of ownership and that’s the last thing I wanna do so I’m thinking alike just wait until the end of next year and go for a preowned 19/20 RS3 instead of brand new S3 . I just hate that feeling when your mind starts to wander towards something else even when you already have something good .

    @mx5hong 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh geesh, are those winter tires? And who ever lend it to you still haven't swapped them out? At least they knew to put the wider ones in the front if it was originally equipped?
    I had the chance to drive the RS4 at a Audi driving event when it was first introduced in the U.S. Then later I stumbled upon a some car blog or something about a group of RS4 parked on a lot in the U.S. waiting to be crushed? Wait, say what???
    Apparently, those RS4 were pre-production cars and they were in the U.S. on some temporary exemption. And those cars didn't have VIN numbers and such. I understand that the exemption expired and the manufacturer had the option of either shipping them back to Germany or crush 'em. I believe a lot of foreign manufacturers bring in prototypes to the U.S. for testing under temporary exemption. And I guess Audi decided to do the latter with those RS4's. :(

    It's great looking. I sure wish for a manual as the DSGs have had iffy reliability in the past. Otherwise, a really great package in and out. For some reason, I find myself a lot more attracted to the smaller premium cars these days, like the RS3 and M2, rather than the larger ones, especially when it comes to the sporty variants. I think these smaller ones make for better driving machines. Inline 5 cylinders sound amazing and I'm glad Audi still offers one. I wish Volvo did too, as they used to in the past.

  • @jeebus2121

    3:52 - note the relationship between tire and wheel: that's going to be a wheel you can easily scuff and mar jutting out like that. One thing I noticed on, say, a BMW M3, is the tire protects the wheel.

    • @weedmastersr
      @weedmastersr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can always buy smaller wheels with higher profile tires. Automakers want to use low profile tires to squeeze every bit of performance but really, in real life, most people neither have the skill, roads or will to take this to the absolute limit of its grip, so you could easily put a more usable set of wheels and tires on it.

      Washington State being one of them, which is where Tom reviews from.
      I don't have one on my M40i either.
      It's a secondary infraction. Meaning law enforcement won't pull you over ONLY because of a missing front plate.
      But if you get caught and cited for something else e.g. speeding, they will most likely go ahead and cite you for that front plate too.

    I ordered one back in September of 2017. They asked for a deposit and naturally I paid it.
    I never received email updates on the progress of the build as they said I would.
    In fact I never heard anything at all except for the times I pestered them. I use the word pester in jest.
    When I did finally receive an update, it was from the manufacturer letting me know the car has shipped and is en route to America.
    Then I got another update saying it's held in Houston, awaiting US Customs to release it.
    Then... radio silence. Nothing. For weeks.
    When I asked the dealership, they repeated the same answer -- held at Customs.
    Fast forward to March of 2018. I called and I when I told them I needed more info than "held at Customs", they finally got someone to provide an answer.
    Turns out, all RS3 built in between such and such dates had an uneven cylinder firing (yes, the RS3 already has that unique 1-2-4-5-3 order... so this was another issue altogether) that was causing the engine to vibrate harshly.
    Gentleman at the dealership told me that a recall was issued and that that was the primary cause for delay. And that there was not even a tentative date on when the car will actually be delivered to the dealership.
    I asked for my deposit back and to cancel my order.
    That process alone took another month or two.
    It was a nightmare situation. I'm not faulting the dealership for the delay on the car itself. But when they were deliberately taking their sweet time to return my deposit, I became extremely frustrated.
    I went to a nearby BMW dealership instead. Ordered a X3 M40i. Excellent service. Had the car in my driveway in 3 months from time ordered.
    The crazy part is. The M40i, IMO, is twice the car the RS3 is. RS3 may be more of a sheer performer. But M40i is an all arounder. And they practically had the same MSRP. In fact, the RS3 was 2 grand more because of a mark up.

      @@jody024 Doesn't look boring at all to me. Looks very sharp and cool. The nicest hatch design ever. The one that all others look to. Leader of the pack. Been so since the start many decades ago. A winner if ever there was one. I'd love to own one.

      No one thinks that picking an RS5 is a poor mans RS7 given the price and size. Plenty of people opt for the RS5 in urban communities but this is the car for those who cannot afford the RS5.

    Don't worry Tom...if automakers are already piping fake exhaust sounds through the cabin of current ICE vehicles, no doubt they'll be doing it once electric vehicles take over the world.
    Not saying this is a good thing though....

    • @shawnrazzi5569
      @shawnrazzi5569 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@weedmastersr Looks are subjective.
      I traded in a two year old RS3 with less than 20,000km for a Model 3. Don't miss the sound, the shifting of gears or the buttons all over the interior.
      Performance Model 3 is quite a bit more than RS3, but even a standard Dual Motor Model 3 is almost as fast as RS3 and actually feels faster due to instant torque and not having to spool up a large turbo. RS3 is a fine car but Model 3 isn't boring by any means.

    • @weedmastersr
      @weedmastersr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shawnrazzi5569 That is the gayest thing I've read all day. There's zero driver involvement with the Model 3. It is not a driving machine. If you want to be a grandpa, that fine, but don't compare it to the godly RS3 which by comparison makes for an incredibly more involved driving experience.

    Too small, too expensive, should have been a two door, two seat fastback, manual, mid-engine. In other words, should have been Audi's response to the Porsche Cayman, not the Golf R. In either case, the Golf R is far better in all areas mentioned minus powertrain and interior quality, where the A3 is better but not by much, and certainly not by enough to make it worth the price tag. I'll take the Golf R.
