I did wonder when I saw the start up video. They’re super cryptic and generally hide most of the time, especially with that bright light. They probably want more of a black water aquarium.
I grew up catching them at the beach. They do walk around during the day, but they're scuttling across the sand. They dig holes to hide in the sand when the tide is down, but they still do emerge during the day to run around
Those crabs are purely nocturnal so you need to watch them with a blue RGB light or moon light on your tank to get the best results. They are kinda of a little side addition to have with shrimp. If you see them yay! If not oh well.
Thai Micro Crabs are nocturnal and prefer the roots and lower steps of bunched plants such as rotala indica and java fern. Also, above the cave I would like to add vampire crabs that would go in and out of the water🤷🏽 along with plenty of live plants of course🥰
The tank with the crabs in looks superb! Will have to have a look back and see if there’s a video on the set up. I’m about to rescape my 30cm x 30cm nano cube - ordered some expanding foam to make a background cliff so hope it turns out well 😅
hey man! how would you go about growing and maintaining multiple types of carpeting plants in the same tank without them growing into each other in the long run? (example - dwarf hair grass and HC)
hmm what would your recommendation be? what do you use, a rock layer, plastic? Or do you manually just cut any runners that “breach” past their little designated areas?
Well I’ve never tried it myself, but I have used plastic strips to support big slopes of soil. I’m pretty this will work if you just make sure the plastic strips are big enough.
It looks like there are a lot less fish in this tank than you started with. Has the balance in the tank been a struggle? ^^
Tanks are looking great as usual! You should pull your cpds out of their tank and stick them in another tank. Last time I did that and left the tank alone with just shrimp after about a week I had a bunch of cpd fry pop up. I’m curious if it was luck or if you might have the same outcome as I did. They were tiny and stuck to the glass at first. I had 18 out of about 40 survive all ended up being females though but an awesome experience
what is the end piece you have on your hose that sucks and puts water back into the tank? I have been looking for a piece like that to help with water when filling my tank back up. Mine doesn't have it so water shoots straight down into the gravel/substrate
Microkrabs doesn't like too much lightning. They always be hide in iwagumi. Better U transfer them to the neon black water and buy neocaridina to this iwagumi ;)

Ok, complete nooby question here so forgive me- the clean water you replace into the tank when you do a change- is that just room temperature? Does it not shock the fish living in the warmer water? I'd love to see you do a betta setup, I adore those gorgeous little dudes. Ooh ooh, or the dwarf frogs, they're so cute and entertaining to watch! Oh no wait, mudskippers!!! ...Ok, I have a lot of favourites xD

Hmm I've never done something like that, but I heard that leaving the plants in sparkling water for a few minutes should kill pest snails, maybe try that?
Aw that's too bad. Ive been into aquascaping for about a year now and i already have 6 tanks 😂 and one of them is a big Palidarium. Loving the vampire crabs in them and that's one of my longest running "tanks"!
@@MJAquascaping That makes sense. The hiding behavior seems really common with smaller Cichlids and characins. It's one of the reasons I've come to love my angelfish and yoyo loach since they are always friendly. Personality is something often underappreciated in my hobby circles.
So, I have a single pea puffer (i actually think he is an imitater)as well because his two girlfriends died and I have been told REPEATEDLY that they should be in groups of 6 or more. I fully intend on getting more, but not for a while. I'm wondering others' opinions on this? My guy seems to be happy and thriving but he is a bit aggressive towards my panda Corys. When I add more, should I take the pandas out, or will the aggressive behavior even out between a shoal? I originally got them to clean up after the puffers. They're such messy eaters! Lol. I want them to be happy also. SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!
Hoi Mark! I’ve been enthousiastically following you for a year now - and may have gotten three tanks thanks to it - and I would really love a video by you on the ethics of fishkeeping. I’m not sure if you think about this at all, but for me it’s important the fish and plants I get are bred by humans instead of wild-caught, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. What do you think of fishkeeping as an industry? How do you think we can make it better? Hard questions but I’d save super into a video about it ✨
Very interesting post. Thinking along these lines myself - perhaps Danio species, livebearers, no heating, no CO2, undergravel filtration and good light with semi floating plants such as Indian Fern. Corys sometimes breed in my high tec tank and a few survive.
@@AP-mq6kr Well after Christmas I may have a go and post on my very limited little site. But I reckon it takes 3-6 months before we can be sure a system is working properly.
I see some previous comments about your water additions. This answered my question about you conditioning the new water. I wish I could just use tap water. Ours is full of chlorine and it is very hard with a very high alkaline level. Gotta even things out before I add. Maybe I should think about some RO water ? Need to do some research. Thanks Mark for your video!

Honestly just a shopping guide would be amazing. What websites do you use and how do you source stuff locally?
Merci pour ton soutien l'ami !
what is the model of this shelf that your tanks are at? i mean its super cool
Here is the link! www.leenbakker.nl/kasten/boekenkasten/wandmeubel-kyan-zwart-naturel-180x120x40-cm
@@MJAquascaping thanks so much appreciate it!!
Do you have your skimmer on the outflow always drop under the water surface? Any tips on keeping it up?
Also thanks for the vinegar tip, I have been meaning to look up how to remove the hard water marks.
Yeah happens sometimes indeed… I use a little pipet to blow some more air underneath the floating device
Gotta be some of the nicest tanks going.
Love the way you do! BR from Bolivia!
Yeah I still have to try that!
@@MJAquascaping no rush you look like you have your hands full at the moment with all those tanks! Lol
Heeey MJ, waar kan ik de link vinden voor de pomp? Staat die ergens waar ik over heen kijk? Alvast dank.

HI, do you use just tap water and conditioner? What is the pH, Gh and Kh of your water?
Yeah just tap water and no conditioner. pH is 7 KH 9 and GH is 8
Where do I get that shelf? I see it in so many videos but I can't find a place to buy it

@@MJAquascaping Woa, thank you sooo much! Kinda expensive for 700€ :D
But it looks so good
@@lara66able A bit yeah 😬 but totally worth it!
I have the exact same thing with my vampire shrimp as your micro crabs it’s very irritating but it’s very cool when I see them ones in a while😃😃
wich Kind of fish are this at 9:00 ?
For the black shrimp tank, for me to start my own, what would be needed for the best water for them to thrive?(:
Mark, welke scraper heb je? Lijkt handig te gebruiken.
Deze! bit.ly/3gHjLNW
Top ding!
what is the end piece you have on your hose that sucks and puts water back into the tank? I have been looking for a piece like that to help with water when filling my tank back up. Mine doesn't have it so water shoots straight down into the gravel/substrate
The black attachment is an old filter intake. Its from a JBL e701 external canister filter.
I personally only see my micro crab once a week if i catch him on a piece of moss in the middle of the night
Do you have the hydrocotyle’s roots in the sand or just emersed floating in the water? I think its such a cool plant.
Just floating in the water basically
@@MJAquascaping good to know thanks MJ
Microkrabs doesn't like too much lightning. They always be hide in iwagumi. Better U transfer them to the neon black water and buy neocaridina to this iwagumi ;)
Which vinegar did you use?
Plain white vinegar, what people use for salad dressings
Cuando cambias el agua en el big shallow, y le vuelves a echar agua de grifo, no la tratas? Con algún producto tipo prime o así? Gracias, están preciosos! ❤️
No, no uso ningún producto. El agua del grifo aquí es muy buena y limpia.
i bought a micro crab on ebay a few months ago, saw it soon after getting it and found a molt being eaten by my shrimp 3 weeks ago or so. since then i have never seen it
Definitely gonna get some Thai micro crabs can watch them at night when I go to bed
Yeah just room temp! And I keep my tanks on room temp as well! I don't really use heaters, maybe just for a few weeks in winter
@@MJAquascaping Ohhh ok, that makes sense then haha! Thanks :D
Can you make a video dealing with white/clear algae? It has completely covered the roots on my floating plants and I’m not sure how to get rid of it!
Nice! saludos desde Costa Rica :)
whats the size of the ember, rasbora, and endler tank?
50x39x36cm!
Try putting some fish fry powder food in the crab tank, mine always come out for that. You can put some shrimp in with them they will be fine.
Thanks for the tip
What syphone is best for aquascape?
Straight tap water no water conditioner?
Yep! Tap water here doesn't really contain anything harmful
@@MJAquascaping must be nice , here in Mexico only thing good for tap water is shower with besides that it’s dangerously crazy to try to even give it to dogs.
Are you using tap water without seachem prime?
Yep!
My tank is overrun with Malaysian trumpet snails, I’m planning on rescaping everything from the start. However I’ve got some expensive buces I want to reuse, how to sterilize them of snail eggs and small snails ? Do you use bleach or any chemicals ?
Hmm I've never done something like that, but I heard that leaving the plants in sparkling water for a few minutes should kill pest snails, maybe try that?
Hey MJ. Have u ever thought about doing a Palidarium set up for vampire crabs?
Hmm I don't know, I'm not really into paludariums, but those vampire crabs are awesome!
Aw that's too bad. Ive been into aquascaping for about a year now and i already have 6 tanks 😂 and one of them is a big Palidarium. Loving the vampire crabs in them and that's one of my longest running "tanks"!
Won't you like to put some algae-eaters so help save you scraping the algae off? Or some freshwater clams, perhaps?
Very beautiful tanks.
You don't do heaters?
I really like the debate about heaters.
Anyways 🆒😎
I e heard before that Thai micro crabs are very shy and good at hiding
Maybe you could keep the crabs and add some chilli rasboras???
The big shallow remains gorgeous, but I wonder where the fish have gone. Do they all just hide all the time?
Yeah a little scared during the maintenance. But they are still all in there! You can see them better in the video I posted last Wednesday
You can just run black lights and they even look cooler
I too think quite a bit about the ethics of fishkeeping and I would also be interested in watching this.
Yeah try RO Tom! Your plants will thank you, and you will have less algae issues as well
If puffer feels a tasty taste of your shrimp, those will be wiped in a night
