      Yeah, I think you put exactly how I feel about the show is in a nutshell.
      I think it was a great show, and they had all the elements of a great show, but I think that's the thing that stops it from being on the level of The Wire/The Sopranos/Mad Men/Breaking Bad is that a lot of times they stumbled in putting all the pieces together.

    • @mrmoviemanic1
      @mrmoviemanic1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      @@AmericasComic I disagree completely. The show isn't about catering to the fans or attempting to create scenes where crime bosses shit all over each other while taunting. It's more about careful decision making and trying to make a sense of stability to the corruption, if it was all archetype asshololics by the characters, it wouldn't feel one bit realistic or understandable how they got to the places of power they did. It also doesn't justify crime in a cool way unlike how even Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Soprano's are guilty of doing.
      I don't want another story about Lucky Luciano and Myer Lansky with Bugsy acting all gungho while cursing there lights out. I'd rather see them struggle to even be taken seriously for 4 seasons.

    • @mrmoviemanic1
      @mrmoviemanic1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @Alex F I agree that Tony didn't enjoy his way of life, but I have to say that the entire Series, he doesn't get nearly as much pain as he dishes out, he always feels like the untouchable and kind of like a character that just complains about his happy life (Which is amusing as all hell, but I wouldn't say it's a negative representation of the crime industry, and more of a satire of it.)
      Nucky constantly gets people making problems for him and trying to kill him. He feels like he's faking his enjoyment at every point for the sake of earning enough to somehow become happy, it's a constant downward spiral that actually ends with hitting rock bottom and never getting back up again.
      Boardwalk is a deeper look at the folly of crime like The Godfather, While Sopranos is more of a satire of crime, sort of like Goodfellas.
      Overall it comes down to your preferences on which show you like more, but I tend to think Boardwalk has more of a fulfilling story to it than Sopranos did.

They took the time to show that dumb Benedict Arnold mf Dunn Pernsley, or w.e his name, lots of other instances where the scene/ppl involved weren’t even big characters on the show , much less real life bc theyre made up/fake.. Despite clashing at times, I think Arnold and Nucky had a mutual respect for each other. That's likely why Arnold had the odds so high of Nucky attempting to kill him while in Jersey. I believe that if Arnold had still been around and not catch that untimely debt due to his gambling habit, that war that ultimately led to Nucky's downfall may have not happened. Although Luciano and Lansky were coming up quickly, they had the respect for AR to where it could have been more diplomatic

    “I didn’t ask for trouble. What was brought to my doorstep, (looks at Joe Masseria) I returned.... and I expect all of you to have done the same.” I now know what that means (Owen Slater in a 📦 or crate)

    • @steelersguy74
      @steelersguy74 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you think that’s what he meant? I thought he was referring to the whole mess with Gyp in general.

    • @chukmorris8264
      @chukmorris8264 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@steelersguy74 That’s a possibility. But I think, with it being the start (Around the first couple episodes of Season 4) of the new series and Owen Slater ending up literally on “Nucky Thompson Doorstep” towards the end of Season 3, its a signal to Joe The Boss that “Hey, you killed my enforcer, you to my crib with guns ablaze, you put my wife and kid in danger, and you’ve been shooting at me since almost the season, you better just be glad that you’re not in a 📦 your damn self”. At least that’s what I took from it anyway.

      @Michelle-ju6vs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@steelersguy74 That's definitely what he meant-the mess with Gyp Rosetti in general. His whole point was that Atlantic City was his, he would protect it if somebody tried to take it from him, and that (as the bosses of their respective territories or rackets) he would expect them to do the same if someone was trying to take what they built. That's why he made a point of mentioning that he had his territory, the casinos, the numbers, and the wire before anything else.
