  • I'm tearing down the engine and doing a cosmetic restoration to my 2006 Royal Enfield Bullet 500. This is the first of a series that'll go step by step and show the entire process, and I'll compare it to my 2018 Classic 500 when finished. #royalenfield #bullet500 #losangeles #motorcycle

    The stick trick has always worked for me. They make stethoscopes now to listen. Whatever floats your boat, but the stick will pinpoint a problem just the same.

      Unfortunately when I took the top end off, the crankshaft was bad. Really bad, actually. Check out the additional videos to see how it goes and thanks for watching!

    When my Triumph Tr-6 needed new camshafts we tore it down. New cams and sludge trap. Put her back together and she is good for another 50 years.

      Part 2 is coming this week and will answer a big question. Here’s a hint - the crankshaft is bad 😩 I’m also lapping the oil pumps, but have new valves, seats, etc.

    Hi! This is pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing the progress here. I have the same model and recently had a similar noise situation. The first thing I found is that the oil pump spindle wore out and started eating through the timing cover. Something to check out. Good luck!

    • @Cyclingwithgasoline
      @Cyclingwithgasoline  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks and I’ll definitely check on that. I already have a new spindle and pumps, but might have to replace the cover if anything is worn

    In india these model bullets have gear on the right side and break on the left side. But now the gear is placed in left side and break is placed in right side.

    • @Cyclingwithgasoline
      @Cyclingwithgasoline  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I’ve ridden one with the right side shifter. There’s also kits to convert them to left side shifters.

      It's all on the gear Shaft. Your bullet is a 5s gearbox.

  • @twostroke350
    @twostroke350 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There's a low level grumble/knock there. I can't work out if it's piston slap or main bearings. I've seen some pretty badly peened main bearing races on 500 bullet motors, especially if oil changes have been neglected and owners have lugged the engine at low revs a lot. They aren't expensive but it would mean splitting the bottom end to change them. Maybe a listen with a sounding rod/engineers stethoscope would tell you more?

    • @Cyclingwithgasoline
      @Cyclingwithgasoline  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it’s just hard to tell. I’ll know more when I remove the barrel. The bike has apparently had a rough life prior to my ownership. If I have to open the crankcase, it’s not the end of the world. I’ve already sourced a new crankshaft if needed. And I’ll replace all the bearings while I’m in there. Thanks for watching!

    Wow, looks like your bike is a mix of 2005 and 2006 parts, love how the dates are marked clearly all over the bike; I'd read your article a few days back, don't you own a Kawasaki H2 as well? also I'd suggest retaining the original paint, I wish they were available where I am as that factory colour is quite rare - cheers, 2004 electra 4s rider from Chennai

    • @Cyclingwithgasoline
      @Cyclingwithgasoline  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, it’s a 2006 model and I’m sure some things were replaced over time. Thanks for reading the article and yes, I also have the Kawasaki. As far as the paint, I’m actually leaning in that direction. I’ll explain in the next video coming in a few days. Thanks for watching!

      @@Cyclingwithgasoline my pleasure, looking forward to your progress - just to clarify I didn't mean that parts were replaced, it was common in that era (post 2000) for the factory to use leftover parts from say 2005 in a 2006 model, my electra also has parts from 2003 and I actually think it adds to the charm and history of the motorcycle and the factory it was made in, cheers

      I haven't found any official information suggesting Royal Enfield offers a "Velvet Green" color for the Bullet 500cc.
      Current color: Forest Green seems to be the standard green option for the Bullet 500cc.

    I have a 2007 Royal Enfield Bullet. Mine is red and chrome, it is beautiful, and runs great. I bought it with 347 miles on it. I also have a 2013 Royal Enfield B5 Bullet I bought new. it is Forest Green. It is dark green. I converted it from EFI to an Amal carburetor using a kit from Hitchcocks in the UK. I also replaced the huge, heavy, ugly, cat con exhaust with a much smaller, lighter, better looking and better sounding aftermarket exhaust, also from Hitchcocks. I have put over 21,000 miles on the 2013, and it still runs fine. A few minor issues, which I found a way to resolve. All motorcycles should use 20w50 oil. I wouldn't even consider putting anything but 20w50 oil in a motorcycle.
    That 100% flat black Classic is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. It's absolutely disgusting. Hard to believe there is actually a nice looking motorcycle under all those gallons of flat black paint.
