    The reason you probably feel the 429 was as good as the switchblade was that they are within half a degree in terms of head angle. This puts the wheel base within 5 mm. I realized the switchblade suspension felt like it was tuned to smash big things but didn't have the geometry to cash out on it. I have since put an angle set to slacken it another degree to 65 and it rides so much better now and makes more sense as the in between for the 429 at 66.5 and the firebird at 64

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes a lot of sense. Angle set would make the SB more relevant today between the extremely trail worthy T429 and all mountain FB

      Insider info says 2022 SB will be 65°

      Hi Philip, can you share which angle set you used? I’m riding a Switchblade V2 and was also considering slackening it a bit. I was looking at the Works Components one but was curious as to the one you used.
      By the way I also changed the rear shock from the DPX2 to a Float X2 and I am ABSOLUTELY loving it. It’s really smoothed things out and added composure and took away a lot of the skitty jitteriness, especially on fast chunk. It rides so awesomely now and the pedaling feels about the same.
      Thanks for the info and Happy New Year!

      @@TheJofrica hey I went with the wolftooth -1 degree headset. Works well enough for me with no issues that I have seen. I went with a dhx2 in the back lol so same damper just the coil in the back. I'm still split between the dpx2 for the lightness and dhx2 has that super controlled and supple ride. One other thing I did was take out the spacer for the fork. It really made the fork feel more supple imo even though fox recommends one spacer for 160

      @@hwangsome Hi, thanks for the info! I'll check out that Wolf Tooth headset. I've heard great things about the DHX2, haven't tried it yet, I hear it's pretty nice on the small bumps. I was surprised at how easy it was to swap the shocks on the Pivot. I still have the DPX2 so it might be a thing where I swap them out depending on what trails I ride. Also haven't adjusted any spacers on anything. Thank you again for the feedback, and Happy New Year! Wishing you excellent rides!

    Hey Jason ! I’ m on a SBv2 size M, it is perfect for me. I want to go with the FB this year but I’m struggling with the size, i’m 175 cm and my first choice was a M but know i’m a bit lost… we have steep an tight trails here, I’m wondering if a small could be better…

    Luv the bike reviews. I know this is a Firebird review but can you comment Transitions Spur vs RM Element?

    I noticed you love running the Rekon front / Ardent race rear combo.... I have been running the same combo for a few years and it is fast with just enough bite. I feel like the Rekon 2.6 3C is the perfect front tire for any trail I ride a lot. I am always looking for a different rear tire, have you tried Rekon Race? The ardent race is so dang light and does well enough, anything you have found that compares?

    I agree with the person who highlighted the title of the video being Pivot Firebird Q&A. It's kinda misleading when the Firebird is not the primary topic for 99% of the video. Perhaps you could do a video titled 'General Bike Q&As' or something so to be able to focus on people's questions regarding what the video title refers to can be answered/why they came to the feed. But hey, you do you! Great content otherwise man! And great riding!

    Sorry I missed the stream...Q: Love my switchblade 90 percent of the time...but occasionally the rear feels super harsh - a little scary even....have spent more than a few months trying to get it dialed in...probably switching shocks, or bikes...I know you had a similar experience and wondering if you found any of that on the 429 or Firebird - and ideas why or why not given similar suspension design? Seems like you loved the rear end on those bikes. Thanks!

      As a person who has a switchblade, something about the shock is funky. At one point I had 230 psi and it was hitting sag and now I have it at 205 and it's still hitting sag. I'd keep taking 5 psi out until it feels ok. I'm not even sure if I'm just used to it at this point but at 205psi with a 180lb riding weight and 3 clicks of LSC, feels soft and supportive now. I actually had been struggling with the fork too and ended up having to take out the spacer for it to feel both supportive yet not harsh. Ride in CO for comparisons sake.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also had a problem w my SB getting harsh at higher speeds... I swapped out for a smaller volume spacer and I it got a little better but in the end, I moved on from the switchblade... If your speeds are high, consider this FB
