The cartridges are not wear items so as long as they work all is well that's clear cut. With needles there's some folks who replace them like a service item. I have read the upper limit for quality styli is 2000 hours, but I take no notice of playtime if the stylus sounds good and tracks properly I'm happy. As long they are working fine and sound I continue to use them. I do check and clean them periodically so I am proactive. The needle tip can be studied with a magnifying glass and you can easily see if the needle is worn or got crap on it, which is probably why I don't have to blindly replace them every X hours. Are yours sounding all OK? Or starting to act up?
@@hydorah They sound fine to me. I just don't want to prematurely wear my records if that is a concern. They also arent made anymore, so I hate to get rid of them too soon.
@@anonymous_friend Yeah makes perfect sense. There are decent after market styli. I'd suggest giving the a visual check, but it the run and fine I think you'll be fine if the needle has the right profile and all is well audibly, then all is well and you won't wear anything prematurely. If you want to score some styli anyway to have on hand, found some 'Tonar' styli (they'd be decent) In stock in the UK: www.westenddj.co.uk/tonar-n447-stylus-for-shure-m447
I've been using the same Shure M447 Cartridges and needles for a long time. When do I know when they need to be changed? Thanks
