I had high hopes for this video,.great to watch an old abandoned bike being saved and given a new lease of life, or so I thought. Trying to free the starter button with channel locks, using a Philips screwdriver on rusted JIS screws, jamming a flathead screwdriver into the ignition. Even the fact that you thought 20 plus year old timing belts would be ok had me wondering what you were thinking. This bike deserved better treatment and I'm sure there are several viewers of your video that would have wanted to be as lucky as you in finding such a barn find. I just think it's a real shame the way you're approaching this.
Japanese bikes do not use Philips or Posidrive screws, they are JIS heads, you need to get yourself a Vessel JIS impact screwdriver, then life will be much easier 😁
@@WhySoSeriously101I've been working on Japanese motorcycles for 30 years and have only been using Phillips screwdriver and impacts too and I've never had a problem either.
Had the same bike many years ago. Found the best way to use the center Stand, stand alongside the left side of the bike facing forward with your hands on the handlebars. With your right foot stand up on the center stand letting your weight push it down as you pull back lightly on the handlebars. The stand pivots right up slick as can be.😊
I did it much the same way, but did not use the handlebars for anything more than keeping the front wheel straight as I stood on the stand and lifted from the crash bar in front of the saddlebag
Pre reverse gear. Very nice. Wow, great find, tons of potential, I get them in my shop now and then, and they are always pretty fancy. Fun to ride!! Comfort and power.
My dad had a 1981 GL1100 in black it was my favorite bike sadly my dad was killed in a car crash do to an intoxicated driver and we had to sell the bike because my mom doesn't like motorcycles and i was only 6 years old. I wish i could find and afford one
I have revived 5 Gold Wings 4 GL1000 and 1100, at one time I had 7 Wings, One was an 1800. I still have 2 Wings and an Indian and currently collect cars. Always carbs brakes and fork seals love old Wings.
Yes PLEASE film it. I love doing that stuff as well and watching others. Everytime I watch others theres always somerhing you can learn, Thank you for the videos.
Sad you guys did not do your research before touching this beautiful motorcycle. The issue with the starter button is the screw underneath it that needs to be loosened a little. You also overtightened the screwed on the valve cover which will definitely leak soon. This bike requires everything to be torqued correctly. I hope you guys decide to read up on how to restore gl1100. I usually do not criticize anyone on the Internet but unfortunately gotten really sad seeing this video. I know you mean well though :)
Mine was a 1986 and I loved it. Bought it new from the Honda dealer in San Fernando valley in January of 1988 and put over 20K miles on it by Christmas.
Back in my early 20's, I had a 76 LeadWing, full dressed "Cadillac" GL 1000, all the goodies. Thanks to it's low center of gravity and profile, my skinny 120 pound self had no problem riding that beast. I did some lighting upgrades and added some artwork to her. Some scripting and pinstriping. Across the trunk, using those thin artist paintbrushes, I scripted "Long Distance Voyager," inspired by the name of a Moody Blues album. That was her name.
I had a Goldwing for 10 years and we had it service once a year. My wife and I didn't drive the motor bike in the winter it gets colder in Tasmania Australia for 9 months of the year. When we sold the bike it was the saddest day.
Nice job getting it running! Would love to see compression numbers to see if the left side rings are infact sticking. Throw some b12 in there and see if you can get them freed up. 🤙
Yes, I would like to see you video switching parts over to get a running bike. I bought an identical Aspencade as this one brand new, and had it for 10 years. Same brown color. Traded it off on a Harley in 1992. Have always regretted trading it off. Should have kept it. It was a bear riding around in city traffic, but boy was it great on the highway. I just subscribed to your channel and an looking forward to your videos on this bike. Ride safe!
I have rescued a barn find bike, rebuilt it and done a tour in 4 countries across Europe. Mine is a Honda Super magna. VF750c. I still have it. Don’t really ride it these days. Brought a new bike a couple of years ago.
This is my favorite iteration of the GoldWing, when it comes to visual appeal. I love how this bike looks. I wish they would make a special brand new GoldWing with new insides but the general look of this bike. I'd get a silver one.
I have been off a motorcycle 🏍 for a long time, so if I ever got a touring bike it would be a Can Am Spyder ,it has 2 wheels in the front, would be a more stable bike, love the videos keep them coming 😊😊😊.
Wow that's low milage on that bike. My first touring bike was an 82 gl1100 that had 78,000 miles on it when purchased and 213,000 miles when i sold it for more than i paid for it. Best bike i ever had as far as reliability.
Why not give all the fasteners etc a good soaking with penetrating fluid and leave it overnight ? Not impressed with your early efforts at hitting things with pliers etc, rough as feck 😱
I got an old 81 gl1100. Its my current project but im strippin mine and making it a chopper. All the parts are good i just want a chopper with one of those flat 4s
I seen a guy at road track and trail in selinsgrove Pennsylvania couldn’t have weighed a hundred pounds use one hand and walk a gold wing backwards and just like magic it went riteup on the center stand slickest thing I ever seen I had a 900 ninja of the 84 variety
I'd love to c the series of the bikes transfer. Hell, I love ya'lls videos period. I didnt even no u had posted. It didn't alert me. Just happened to show up on the main page when I refreshed it. Would love to c more posts from ya.
Same as the one I bought about 20 years ago, had 10 years with few issues, 11 th year I had to do a full strip, frame had rotted through by petrol tank and on bottem frame rail which was removable. Petrol tank had also rotted out. Did all that and then sold it as it was getting too heavy to manoeuvre. S😢till miss that bike.
You should have said, "no brakes, but we have PLENTY OF BUSHES." Hitting trees to stop is pretty graphic. But hitting small bushes should be fun to stop.
Bought a bike on online auction, front end damage. When it arrived, truck driver helped me unload it. Front wheel scraping tire so we didn't realize it was in gear until on the ground. Must have been in top gear when wrecked and no one changed, as the foot shift was bent against the frame and clutch cable broken. Engine was fine, but forks and frame by neck bent.
Good video, I would like to see how it turns out. Wouldn't it be easier to just take the good parts you need on the parts goldwing instead ? That's if you have a title for the Aspencade
Hey guys, just found you and subscribed, I follow bearded mechanics also and live in southern PA, ride an F6B wing, my buddy also has one too, we both retired, but would be cool if you could get a few of us to ride together this spring or summer, if you want barn find bikes, also have a 1974 Z1A I restored.
totally wront srat working, first cover off, then sparks off looking cylinders, and take carburets off and clean all, then blaster to cylinder stay one day, then try move engine, not take battery and start,

YUP, very cringe worthy... I bought a '81 GL1100 & '97 Valkyrie, no history for either so first to replace were the timing belts.
Apart from that, the video is just plain badly edited and boring...
Agree totally. Had to look away when he jammed that screwdriver into the key switch. Thumbs down on this video.
I was wondering where he bought his barn find dust from ?
Yup a How to Butcher a Classic Motorcycle Video
Japanese bikes do not use Philips or Posidrive screws, they are JIS heads, you need to get yourself a Vessel JIS impact screwdriver, then life will be much easier 😁
Currently restoring a 79 gl1000, bought a JIS screwdriver set but use my Phillips screwdrivers 99% of the time! You don’t need to buy anything.
@@WhySoSeriously101I've been working on Japanese motorcycles for 30 years and have only been using Phillips screwdriver and impacts too and I've never had a problem either.
What a waste leaving it to rot away some people have more money than sense
Wish it was me that had it
A tip for you to remove surface rust it works soapy brillo pads in hot water does great job

I'm here all day for the Goldwing content! Very cool!
Yes I would love to watch that series of videos of you doing that
Watching bearded-mechanic gave lots of tips on how to work on bikes. Love the guy.
Just get an ignition switch, be amazed, and everything will probably start working. The wiring on those is nuts dude.
Barn find bikes, baby! Bring us more!!!!
A bit over a decade ago I restored a 1977 GL1000 , if my starter switch should fail I just have to use the kick starter . A real fun bike to ride.
Pre reverse gear. Very nice. Wow, great find, tons of potential, I get them in my shop now and then, and they are always pretty fancy. Fun to ride!! Comfort and power.
I'm bummed out just having to bleed my brakes with old fluid! Your task is way more involved. 🙂
There is a code on the ignition, take it out to a lock smith and he can cut a key.
Wow these are my favorite bikes and you can't beat the comfort of the seat especially when you're sitting on the back.
My wife fell asleep on the back of my aspencade.
Stick rings, maybe spray some oil down cylinders help it turn over smoother.
My dad had a 1981 GL1100 in black it was my favorite bike sadly my dad was killed in a car crash do to an intoxicated driver and we had to sell the bike because my mom doesn't like motorcycles and i was only 6 years old. I wish i could find and afford one

They are a great ride. We have it up an running great now. 👍
Honda gold wings are built to last forever great job putting that one back on the road
Yes PLEASE film it. I love doing that stuff as well and watching others. Everytime I watch others theres always somerhing you can learn, Thank you for the videos.
Great Video. You guys are truly blessed to be working together and having fun.
I shoulda cloned a son like you did. Great fun watching you guys.

Get over yourself bud... this bike was left to rot
I think it has broken rings or something on the left bank of the Boxer, oh bout those Honda's deserve to be restored!
Thanks for the video!

Oh, that poor girl. Hope you can make her shine again!
Nice job getting it running! Would love to see compression numbers to see if the left side rings are infact sticking. Throw some b12 in there and see if you can get them freed up. 🤙
Put the barn find goodies on the other bike, can't wait to see the vid. THANKS
Yes I would love to see,please 😊😊.

Yes how cool then the swap is even cooler. May try some sea foam in the engine before the swap.
Hi from the UK, yes, go for it, love to see these classics get a new lease of life..
Another episode would be fantastic can’t wait to see it all swapped over 👍
Let’s keep the goldwing content coming!
I have rescued a barn find bike, rebuilt it and done a tour in 4 countries across Europe. Mine is a Honda Super magna. VF750c. I still have it. Don’t really ride it these days. Brought a new bike a couple of years ago.

I prefer the 78/9 models. (I have both) 😁
The left carb bank is flooded rich. And the air cut off valves are probably shot.
You are exactly right. That was the problem 👍
Like to see you put both together and make one good looking bike so hope you video the progress 👍
Enjoyed this video and would definitely watch a video where you swap parts over the the donor/parts bike
I have been off a motorcycle 🏍 for a long time, so if I ever got a touring bike it would be a Can Am Spyder ,it has 2 wheels in the front, would be a more stable bike, love the videos keep them coming 😊😊😊.
You bunglers don't deserve this motorcycle!
Wow that's low milage on that bike. My first touring bike was an 82 gl1100 that had 78,000 miles on it when purchased and 213,000 miles when i sold it for more than i paid for it. Best bike i ever had as far as reliability.
Absolutely swap parts have a perfect running goldwing bike
Why not give all the fasteners etc a good soaking with penetrating fluid and leave it overnight ? Not impressed with your early efforts at hitting things with pliers etc, rough as feck 😱
Yeah, please do the swap and get one good running bike. It would be neat to see the process on video.
Great find, hope you get it all together
Yes would like to see you do the work.
Would love to see the rebuild 😊
I got an old 81 gl1100. Its my current project but im strippin mine and making it a chopper. All the parts are good i just want a chopper with one of those flat 4s
A complete disassemble reassemble project. Nice basement project for a winter .
yes would love to see you transfer everything over
As you are a bike owner I’m surprised you didn’t first turn the red switch to “RUN”.
Thanks for sharing.
Of course you can,it’s a Honda.
I would definitely like to see you build the bike.
I seen a guy at road track and trail in selinsgrove Pennsylvania couldn’t have weighed a hundred pounds use one hand and walk a gold wing backwards and just like magic it went riteup on the center stand slickest thing I ever seen I had a 900 ninja of the 84 variety
Sure we'd love to see it transform into a new beginnings
I've owned 11 Gold Wings still own 2, One is the first one I bought. Watch out for the timing belt there is probably stuff in there..good luck!!
Thats not smoke coming from the left side exhaust is fuel, thats why it went through 1 gallon in 3 miles had the same problem with my 76
You are exactly correct. It was a stuck float in one of the carbs on the left side
Yes I would like to see that
I am amazed that you would risk no brakes
I would love to see you move all the parts from one to the other
Hell yeah man. I would love to see it. Bike is great looking.
I'd love to c the series of the bikes transfer. Hell, I love ya'lls videos period. I didnt even no u had posted. It didn't alert me. Just happened to show up on the main page when I refreshed it. Would love to c more posts from ya.
I had one I called and talked to the head of the gold wing club he said those belts can last to over 100.000.000 miles
Same as the one I bought about 20 years ago, had 10 years with few issues, 11 th year I had to do a full strip, frame had rotted through by petrol tank and on bottem frame rail which was removable. Very awesome my friend
Yes do it I would watch it
You should have said, "no brakes, but we have PLENTY OF BUSHES." Hitting trees to stop is pretty graphic. But hitting small bushes should be fun to stop.
82 is the best year of wings!!!!!!! love this stuff

Never rev an engine like that after setting for years.
“There is nothing better than a Goldwing “~S. surgeon
Я из России.У моего знакомого точно такой байк стоит.Небольшая неисправность есть. А так вообще на ходу.Классный мотоцикл!
Make the change.
Might have a bad head gasket on the left cylinder head. It’s normal to have some smoke on that side on startup but it should go away after a bit.
First time I’ve ever seen a bike start out of sheer fear. Fear that if it didn’t start you guys might do something else hideous to that poor bike. 😢
😂😂😂
A fyi , you don’t drive a motorcycle. You ride it!
yes we want to see you do it
Good video, I would like to see how it turns out. Wouldn't it be easier to just take the good parts you need on the parts goldwing instead ? That's if you have a title for the Aspencade
It would have been easier most likely. But you are right, we don’t have a title for the aspencade . The finished product turned out amazing though 👍
Yes please. I wanna see goldwing build. By the way, You sound exactly like the guy from the RobotCantina channel.
Timing belts in cars are usually changed 60-75k
Weird note on this, but it feels good to know I'm not the only one who's taken to calling it Peanut Butter Blaster.
I'd rather see the barn find Wing going. Transfer the parts from that black one to the other, even it's the whole bike.
Hey guys, just found you and subscribed, I follow bearded mechanics also and live in southern PA, ride an F6B wing, my buddy also has one too, we both retired, but would be cool if you could get a few of us to ride together this spring or summer, if you want barn find bikes, also have a 1974 Z1A I restored.
beauty bike safe and make new life,
I'll watch the reincarnation. I had a 83 Aspencade same color. Check the rivets on those comstar wheels, they sometimes get loose.
I really enjoyed this vid guys awesome❤
100 percent yes
Yes let’s see it!!!!
Just spray a bit of wd 40 on the starter button a bit of wd40 sometimes helps free up.before taking it apart
Want to see the parts switch transformation
Yes id like to see it
totally wront srat working, first cover off, then sparks off looking cylinders, and take carburets off and clean all, then blaster to cylinder stay one day, then try move engine, not take battery and start,
I've got a 1983 Honda Gold Wing Aspencade with California Friendship Sidecar if you're interested.
Interesting… what area are you from?
Thanks for the offer. But we are in PA it’s a bit to far from home…
Would love to see you restore it.
Yes let’s see the process
Yes!! Let us watch you swap out to the better bike!
Found a great barn find, gave a nice opening about why he loved these bikes...then they attacked it hammers and screwdrivers. WTF! 😮😢
Yeah. . . You gotta do it - subbed hoping!!
Yes it would be nice
