      @subhanmahmood6580 6 ปีที่แล้ว +127

I think that's kinda what the writers were going for, that Amalthus is still a child who never grew up. He still lives in a world where he thinks everything belongs to him and it confused why he doesn't get everything on a silver platter and others resist him. When he's talking to Zeke about killing people, he admits he is weak, and I think him crying for his mom accentuates that weakness.

What I find most heartbreaking is that both Jin and Malos acted according to what they thought the other wanted. Malos showed Jin that there was a path, that there was something he could do with his life, so Jin wanted to destroy the world for Malos. Malos thought Jin was so dead set on destroying the world, and Amalthus made it so that he couldn’t do anything else if he wanted to, that he staked everything on destroying the world, even after Jin was dead. Because that’s what he thought Jin wanted.

Actually that would have been a way cooler plot. The torna gang slowly start losing their convictions, even Jin, until they're overcome by their own "humanity" which is what they were trying to destroy in the first place. Malos being the only non-human, is disgusted in them and lets them die.

    • @JamaicaZ160R1793010A
      @JamaicaZ160R1793010A 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I mean perhaps but it'd depend on the story. I'm not sure it'd work as it'd indicate that Malos only cared about a piece of them and not the whole thing and some of them were deeply scarred by their pasts. It's nice that Malos cared about them like true comrades and friends to the end.

Malos and Jin were looking for reasons to live as cursed beings, and eventually Rex gives them the answers.
Amalthus lost his mother so he climbed all the way to the World Tree to question the god but still got no answer breaks him...

All I could think of afterwards is that it didn't look like a conscious choice at all that she constructed prya--the way she told Rex made it seem like it was. Also I just realized when leaving fonsett, pyra's departure loosely mirrors the end of torna. Before, she leaves heartbroken beyond repair and no one says a word to her. I don't think Addam ever looks at her face-to-face again, and that avoidance reinforced her self loathing; if her own driver can't even look at her, she is despicable, an absolute monster. I think the greatest and most terrible plot twist would be if the thrashing she gave Rex after vandam dies is pretty much word for word what Addam might of said to her at some point.

Yeah, when Malos calls himself "A hideous monster, far beyond saving!", to me, it sounds like a cry for help, as if Malos honestly *wants* you to defeat him, that deep down, he wishes he could have gotten to enjoy life the way Pneuma got to alongside Rex. And to me, this is confirmed with something Malos says as he's dying: "If only I'd met you sooner, just think of all the worlds I might have seen."
That exchange before and after the battle with Aion to me makes Malos into one of the saddest characters in the game, where it's pretty clear that Malos honestly doesn't *want* to destroy the world, but thanks to Amalthus, he doesn't know how to do anything other than to destroy.

Mega Mawile Chapters 1 - 7 had their good moments. These are my favorite things from each chapter
      Chapter 1- Rex's old lifestyle
Chapter 2- Meeting Tora, and fighting Mòrag.
Chapter 3 - Vandham( as a character) Vandham's Death, The awakening of mythra
Chapter 4- Exploring Mor Ardain, the Rosa fight, Poppi QT, Lila, Tatazo, meeting Haze/ Fan la Norne, meeting Patroka and Mikhail( but the boss fight was crap)
Chapter 5- Going to Leftheria to see Rex's home town(Fonsett)
Temperantia, Jin fight, Haze/ Fan la Norne's death(Rex's reaction is what made it sad)
Chapter 6- Giga Rosa, first look at blade Nia, Tantal, Thesoir, Akhos, Patroka and Mikhail fight, Full Power Jin half boss fight, Pyra going with Jin to keep everyone safe
Chapter 7- Start to the chapter, everyone's struggle, music, blade Nia, Ascended Pyra/Mythra
      but the gameplay was terrible
Chapter 8- Morytha, teaming with Jin, going inside the World Tree,
Amalthus's reveal as a villain even though I wasn't surprised
Chapter 9- The constant use of Desolation and Walking with you, tragic chapter, Mikhail's Sacrafice, Akhos and Patroka's death, Jin's death
Chapter 10- seeing the ruins of Elysium, meeting the Architect, Final Boss theme( the fight was kinda crap and cheap),
Words can be a Curse, To Find a Way Forward, The Final Gift(ending)

@@heropontorchic1979 Your "gameplay is terrible" argument actually solidifies why "the fear she carries" is my favorite chapter in the game, aside from the last one. You are pushed to your limits and are forced to exceed them, putting all your combat skills to the test and enduring 2 long and hard dungeons, uncovering more about your party members and revealing their internal struggles along the way. making it through difficult challenges and surviving onslaughts of powerful bosses with the team you've spent all this time getting to know, and when you finally awaken Pneuma and flatten Jin and Malos, the satisfaction is immeasurable.
      Edit:
My favorite moments in every chapter:
Encounters; Rex & Pyra's resonance / Pyra's duel with Malos
Aptitude; Rex's mid-battle speech to Morag / The campfire scene
Our Own War; We've all got our own war / Exit Vandham, Enter Mythra
Aegis; Salvager's code rule 3 / Tora reunites with his father
Masters & Slaves; Pyra and Corrine / Jin mercy-kills Haze
Wounds; Pyra's rescue / The ending bargain
The Fear She Carries; (These are obvious) Nia's reveal / Pyra/Mythra reawakens
The Golden Country; Lora & Jin's cute scene in Hyber Village / Mythra's breakdown
World Tree; Jin's backstory & Torna's truth / The deal of being me
Rain; Mikhail & Jin vs Amalthus / Zeke's question

    ...
    ...Spoilers, obviously...
    ...was Amalthus.
If Amalthus's mother hadn't been killed, NONE of the events in this game would've taken place.
    1) Malos would've never been awakened by him, which would mean that Amalthus's grievance would've never rubbed off on Malos, which was what originally led him to want to destroy the world.
    2) Lora would've never been killed and Jin would've never sided with Malos because of both this and the former reason.
    3) Because Torna was never formed, Ahkos, Patroka, Mikhail, and Jin would've all lived. Ahkos and Patroka would've never had their cores stolen by Amalthus, Mikhail would've never performed the Suicide Strike on Indol, and Jin would've never sacrificed himself.
    4) The Titans would've likely never died out. Titans form due to Blades becoming old and gradually evolving into Titans. Because Amalthus was constantly absorbing Core Crystals, Blades were never able to transform into Titans, causing the land to slowly disappear.

Amalthus seems so simple at first, with people thinking he was just mad his mother died, but it’s more than that. With how Alrest is, Amalthus searched for answers as to why the world was the way it was. What was his purpose in an inherently flawed world. He thought he could get an answer from the Architect, until he only found the Aegis cores. At this point, he had little hope left in the world and these beliefs carried on to Malos, programming him to be the way he was. “When people lose something, they cannot help but seek a reason why.” Amalthus never found out why in his whole life, which makes him one of the most tragic villains I’ve seen.

@@JamaicaZ160R1793010A I think it has to do with Rex using Pyra for his own ends kind of like Pyra was using him to get to Elysium.
Rex was seeking salvation so enthusiastically, not knowing Pyra's reasons for going. Their destination was the same but their goals/motivations couldn't be more different.
Sure, Rex accepts and supports Pyra from the outset of the game, but he doesn't really take in the gravity of that means for Mythra until after he has lost them. Pyra cares for Rex but isn't able to completely let him into her heart until seeing just how hard he's willing to work for her dreams. Pyra and Mythra think the world would be better without them, and think that unburdening Rex with their strife will fix everything. Rex kind of just assumed Pyra wants to go home and is being helpful, until he sees that there's more to the situation.
Similar to the sacrifice at the end of the game, this is such a subtle change in the character that it goes almost unseen, but under the surface it's ENORMOUS growth/development.

The saddest part about Amalthus is how he cried out for the architect as he's dying, how he's lost to religious delusions, that combined with his hatred for the world. His talk about the faces of humanity, and Zeke's line about how "That was... you too wasn't it" shows what makes us human not our greed but our emotional or sides of humanity. "As soon as people are denied something they desire they try to take it by force" Rex took the power to protect by force, through his resolve and growth as a person. And Zeke talking about how sad he looked back then makes me realize he's just a sad child grieving over his Mom maybe if he had a friend like Rex things would have been different if he had someone there for him maybe he would have coped with that loss better. And the way he says he misses his mother shows how he really is just a sad child lashing out of grief. Rex is what Amalthus could have been he too lost people but he didn't let that stop him from living his life. Along with the loss of his mother and the divine power brought my Malos that gave him delusions of grandeur, it turned him into the villain he became. Rex coped with his loss probably because of the villages and gramps.
When he met Pyra and later Mythra the power given to him was incredible but he didn't think himself as some god he was still a boy with much to learn. He cared about people he never wanted to hurt anyone he just wanted to help everyone, he was greedy but his will and his friends allowed him to achieve his goal. Not just Pyra and Mythra but the whole group Nia, Dromarch, Tora, Poppi and the others helped him grow and become not just grow as a driver but as a person. The scene where everyone is hitting Rex shows how much they care for him. The group you form in the game are people who truly care about each other. They comfort each other in their times of need and motivate each other when they need it most. It's because of his friends that Rex made it this far, and maybe if Amalthus had friends like that things would have been different.

    • @bitrel07
      @bitrel07 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Rex didn't technically take the power to protect by force if you're talking about Pyra/Mythra. Pyra sympathized with Rex after he was literally backstabbed by Jin back in Chapter 1 and his motivation to help her reach Elysium (where he wanted to visit too) synced with her dream of going there. Pyra gave 'half' of her Core Crystal to Rex to save his life, Rex had no say in it. Until Mythra came into the picture, Rex was rather naïve in a lot of scenarios where thinking better would have saved him from getting into more danger even if he had a few good reasons for why he did what he did. After Mythra adjusted to Rex's overly optimistic personality (she's still somewhat annoyed by it even after she absolutely loves him), Rex acts a bit more strategic as just talking isn't enough (something he always does a lot of) and questions some of his friends antics such as Mythra using her powers inside the factory. His combat skills with Mythra are greatly improved and even if he lost in Round 2, he did pretty well in dodging and parrying Jin's attacks even if his physical body couldn't keep up with Mythra's Foresight due to Jin's Lightspeed movement. Addam's spirit tells Rex that if he/Rex really wants to help the Aegis unlock her true power and become her Driver, Rex must first be able to shoulder the darkness and fear she has to live with. Addam's failure 500 years ago came from his relationship aspect with Mythra, treating her closer to a younger sister and not someone who is an equal or greater (which is what Rex views all of his friends as.) When Rex offered to be by Pyra and Mythra's side and to help them overcome their fears and allow them to move on with life, he asked them a single question. It was a test of morality that even he had to accept. He didn't take the power of the Aegis by force, up until Chapter 7, it was forced on him ever since Chapter 1. In Chapter 7, Pyra and Mythra could have declined Rex's question and offer and he wouldn't have been able to resonate with either of them anymore. Rex knows there are standards and his friends were there to remind him that the world doesn't just revolve around himself. His inner fears in Chapter 10 highlighted this.
Whereas Amalthus due to his dark and troubled past takes what he sees he needs from others by force shortly after the Aegis War. Amalthus wasn't the most sane of a person even when he was older, out of curiosity he climbed the World Tree and after seeing what was 'inside' he fled after obtaining two of the three Aegis Core Crystals (Alvis fled long before the story took place for unknown reasons.) He first resonated with Malos but Amalthus's hatred for humanity (his inner demon/darkness) corrupted the latter to where Malso became inclined to do just that even after parting ways with Amalthus upon regaining full control of himself. It was at this point that Amalthus realized he seriously screwed up with thinking he could properly control an Aegis and after Malos told him to the face that he/Amalthus knows that it's impossible for him (Amalthus again) to control an Aegis, Amalthus comes to admit he needs to find someone who can actually control an Aegis so he looks for one and sends that person after Malos. Following the Aegis War, Amalthus realizes that the Aegis are far too destructive so he begins to seek and destroy all Tornan survivors (he's nearly 100% successful) and this just makes Jin's life even more miserable as Lora ends up dying to save her Blade's life. In the main game, Amalthus acts nice and understanding but his ambitions hold a much darker secret and Mythra picks up on this and Malos isn't stupid enough to believe that she would yield to a scumbag like Amalthus (he tells this to Patroka.) When Rex and his friends encounter Amalthus and Indol fighting the Tornan Crew, Amalthus starts showing his inner demons as he shows he's no better than those around him by using Hazes power which he forcibly obtained by cutting her Core Crystal in HALF and using Amp Towers to control every non-Flesh Eater/Blade Eater (Malos was unaffected despite Mythra being influenced partially thanks to resisting) and Titan (Gramps was resisting as well) within his range of power. When Mythra refused to use her full power for the second time under his influence, Amalthus' attitude reveals that he absoltely HATES it when anyone defies his orders as he claims he's an agent of the Architect despite that only being a self-proclaimed title that he calls himself. When Amalthus in his 'Blade Eater' form appears in front of everyone inside the World Tree, Rex, Zeke and Pandoria rightly call the former out for trying to force others to obey him which makes the 'Praetor' nothing more of a tyrant who refuses to change his personality and lifestyle and hates change. Amalthus then states that he refuses to change at all (his way of life and actions) and anyone who tries to change themselves or others are nothing but fools and that if he did do so, he'd lose everything in his life. Zeke, who has had enough calls Amalthus the biggest fool and the weakest of the weak for being unable to accept life the way it is and not moving on. Even if Amalthus had friends, it would do him no good as he absolutely refuses to see any other way of living as obsolete. In the flashback of him talking to Zeke, he admits that he deep down hates the entire world of Alrest and Rex even lampshades it when he and his friends were ascending in the World Tree that Amalthus must really hate the world which is why he (and to the extent, Malos) are so inclined on wiping everyone and everything out of existence.

@@bitrel07 Rex didn’t exactly take the power by force, he accepted the power even though he knew once he didn’t there would be no turning back. It was his resolve and desire to protect his friends that allowed him to take it. At any point Rex could’ve given up when things got tough he never really had to help Pyra and the many times that she was kidnapped he could’ve given up. When Jin beat him and took Pyra Rex almost gave up but his friends dragged him out of his depressive state and it gave him the resolve he needed to get stronger. He was able to face Jin a second time without the power of the Aegis due to his resolve and belief that he needed to protect Pyra even if he had no chance at all of winning. It’s true he had Nia in her blade form and the healing would give him some confidence but it doesn’t even compare to the power of the Pyra and Mythra. In terms of offensive power Nia isn’t exactly a top tier blade, she’s not weak either but that’s a fair price as she has incredible healing powers. That alone wouldn’t be enough to beat torna though, Rex probably wasn’t even sure if he’d survive another fight against Jin but he still tried because he had to. In the end he didn’t take the final sword by force but instead he accepted the power of the true Aegis because it was the only way he could defeat torna and protect the ones he cares about.

Debt kept piling up, pain wouldn't go away. But it's like God himself told me to enjoy this masterpiece of fictional work. And when i got to this section of the game, it felt like a piece of lost humanity inside me had been restored. I cried in this scene, i whimpered at the passing, i understood what it was this lost soul tried to do. It's no different from what we do in the day to day and sometimes we forget we 1,000,000 views of this video can change just by asking how someone's day is going, and how they're feeling. I'm sure things would have played out much better for poor almalthus if he opened his heart again. He gave up. And i can scarcely blame him.

For me, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has a special place in my hear not only for its OST, but its story, and especially resonating a lot with Jin. During that point of my life, I was in a very dark place; I lost touch with basically all my friends, suffered a lot when a girl broke my heart badly, exposed to how bad this world truly can be, and realized how a lot of people really don't care when push comes to shove, all within a span of several months mind you. When I played this game when it came out 6 years ago, Chapter 6 and onwards was an emotional rollercoaster since I could relate to the melancholy of the cast.
From how the story portrays Amalthus, I feel like Amalthus was so traumatized from his mother getting killed, he never truly recovered from it and him not moving on from that leads him to the path he walked. The funny thing is him saving Zeke shows Amalthus didn't completely gave up on everything, because if Amalthus really had zero hope in humanity, Zeke would have died. I don't know if this is me reading too much into it, but when Amalthus cried out "he did everything" and devastated from thinking the Architect watched Amalthus die with indifference, it really shows Amalthus didn't realize he was never alone, but his trauma prevented him from seeing that.
