I live in the town where the Lister D was made. I rebuilt one. The simplicity and the quality of manufacture meant that with only basic maintenance, Lister D's would run foreve! Great bike too. Love the imagination and style of the rider...! Thoroughly enjoyed watching that....!

Well now, when we had a 1936 "Liner" cement mixer in our farm yard, I never ever thought that it's Lister "D" upright engine would find a home in a motorcycle. . . Hmm, goes to show you never can tell! And those engines will plod along, day in, and day out, without missing a beat. As for cooking food in the water hopper? Absolutely true, and the builders used to boil eggs in ours, then, come break time, hot egg sandwiches and tea, or coffee. If you wanted the deluxe cooling system, you could get a version with a radiator and fan, using thermo-syphon to circulate the water.
I've never understood the rat rod/ steampunk aesthetic, but that is one heck of a bike right there. It looks fantastic (if a tad overboard on the patina for my taste) and has tons of character. Plus, it can make a solid lunch, so I'd say it's a super-nice ride. o7
I think the bike's survivable, but the lack of peripheral vision from the steampunk goggs is iffy. Runs like a dream, as they usually do. @@Diogenes425
Original steampunk was a great aesthetic. Unfortunately it was taken over by people that didn't understand it, and started making everything clockwork/using cogs and stuff as buttons everywhere for no discernible reason. You know, how a lot of stuff is ruined. Thankfully dieselpunk is largely untouched by these types.
I think the techno is fine but sometimes somebody call rave like techno but it is different... So it is hard to understeand you.. if you mean techno or the rave called techno... Idk
It's Glorious!!! Every part is meticulously deep rusted - H-D, eat your heart out! And the tech innovations; from the start button, to the foot friction clutch, to the sausage boiler plus countless more - just Genius!!!
I loved the way your push button opened a door plunking down a crank. Reminded me of how many times I kicked started my z50 so many times, eventually wearing down the kick start shaft to a nub and the handle flying off into the rhubarb. Been very concious of wear there ever since. Nice crank!
Steam Punk just became Petrol Punk! Absolutely marvelous. The starter gag is brilliant, the rip your trousers off belt drive/clutch is brilliant. The overall look of the bike is superb. It's so cool it can cook your breakfast for you!
I do love this bike and another giant plus in my book is no one has come within a country mile with a damn can of rattle paint!! A machine that's managed to survive this long deserves to wear every scratch, dent, ding, and flake of rust like a badge of honor!!
Great to see a Lister doing the work. It will go to the Moon and back again - no problem! I do like the thought of the Cooling Tank as a Hand Warmer on those winter nights. May also keep the nuts warm! Greetings from Australia.
I have the idea of building a diesel powered motorcycle using a 7 horsepower Lombardi air cooled diesel engine. It looks like you pretty much built your own frame and just used the forks and rear of an existing motorcycle. Your frame nicely accommodates the extreme height of your engine. I hope to modify an existing frame, but we will see how it goes. I like yours a lot. I think it shows not only a lot of building skill and talent, but a lot of creativity. Very nice!!
What kind of engine is it? I can’t imagine it’s a steam engine, because the water is open-air and can’t build pressure. Is the water a cooling reservoir for a single cylinder combustion engine?
Wow, a mad max bike with integrated sausage cooker at best. A bloke near by got a similar engine . He run it sometime power up his remote barn . I do not know if its a Lister engine, it could be also a Deutz, but it is made the 30th. This neat piece of machinery make enough power for hand tools, a small welder and lighting. The sound of those old engines is incredible.
@@fredtracy1673 I have an engine that's about that size it's rated at 2 and 1/2 horsepower at 1800 RPM but it's a Fairbanks Morse Onan and it's got a 1-inch crankshaft out of the side so in today's horsepower I believe it would be about a 14

I've got a Lister D engine just like this (1935), I can't think of a worse power source for a motorcycle! But that's what makes this so cool. A stationary engine, not being stationary. A hopper-cooled engine on a motorbike. What could go wrong? Awesome :)
This has become my favourite YT video. It scores so many points in so many areas. Ingenuity, humour, style, artistry & artfulness, etc. And you have the essence of steampunk nailed. But the start system has to be of especial note. Anyone else might have just made a place to clip the handle on the frame. But incorporating it behind what looks like an electric pushbutton labelled "STARTER", that is sheer genius. Steiner (Lief) = you aare briiliant. Thanks for sharing it with us.
About 45 years ago, I worked at a rental yard, that 2 or 3 generators, powered by Lister engines. The original owner bought them, to run, at the Boulder Dam, on the Colorado river, between Arizona and Nevada. (I think the dam has been renamed since.) They were hand-crank start, and had a compression release for each cylinder. One was 2 cylinder, an other was 3 cylinder. All were water cooled. That was in the '70's. Wish I could find one like them. steve
I've a Lister D that i used as the prime mover for a car alternator that was our power source for several months. Sadly it's seized now, must have left it with a valve open and moisture got in. I never thought I'd make it mobile though. Well done.

I believe this is the same brand of frame that Alan Millyard used for his V-twin, 5 liter, flying Millyard. He used 2 cylinders from a radial airplane engine, and made his own crankcase, rods and crankshaft, and almost everything else, except the pistons and cylinders. Those who may not have seen his videos on youtube, just search flying millyard. He does some amazing work. That said, this is a great video, on it's own. Love the sound and emphasizing the vibrations.
That guy is nothing short of a gifted genius. his creations, that he's built with his own 2 hands are next level. I've watched a lot of his video's and love them all.

@@user-mg8wu6iz7j Вот сцепление как раз не вечное. Ремню так очень быстро хана придет ( видно, кстати, что он изнутри уже порядком истерт ). Другое дело, что менять легко. С другой стороны, сцепление работает на нажатие, а не на отжатие. Так и нога устанет педаль держать. Что-то по мне, так для 36 года какой-то мотохлам на колесах. Интересно, какая страна-производитель ? Явно не немцы. BMW тех лет это наши советские "Уралы" 60-х 70-х годов. Да и американцы с харлеями явно лучше смотрелись.

Royal Enfield sold a bike like that with a Lombardi diesel (375cc iirc) in India for a few years, plonked right into the Standard Bullet frame.

@@user-mg8wu6iz7j Вот сцепление как раз не вечное. Ремню так очень быстро хана придет ( видно, кстати, что он изнутри уже порядком истерт ). Другое дело, что менять легко. С другой стороны, сцепление работает на нажатие, а не на отжатие. Так и нога устанет педаль держать. Что-то по мне, так для 36 года какой-то мотохлам на колесах. Интересно, какая страна-производитель ? Явно не немцы. BMW тех лет это наши советские "Уралы" 60-х 70-х годов. Да и американцы с харлеями явно лучше смотрелись.
At the speed that bike goes, its more like "Born to be Mild". But that doesn't take away it's awesome coolness factor. Kudos.
