I see you have an electronic transfer case. I'm in the process of doing a manual swap and other than the 29spline swap what else did you need to do? I have read a lot about problems for 4Lo to work. Appreciate the channel
Thank you for sharing this information I also have a 2005 Dodge 3500 with a 6 speed NV 5600. I m getting ready to change the lubricant oil in the trans and replace with your recommended Redline mixture, It looks like it’s been a year or so since you’ve changed the oil in your trans according to the date on this video and I wanted to follow up with you and see how you like the red line mixture in your transmission….. has it worked well? Thanks Chris
I have a 2003 dodge cummins sixspeed I love it I use to have a 1998 dodge cummins fivespeed 12 valve someone stole it from the back parking lot where I work at
I used have the bd short shifter on my truck. I was driving home one day and shifted into 3rd gear. The shift lever broke off at the top of the transmission housing. Luckily I was close to home and was able to limp it back. Hopefully they have improved their design but at the time they knew they had a flaw in the design. They were willing to offer a free replacement but I declined and decided to stay with the stock design.
@@darkirondiesel sorry I should have clarified that. It was around 4 years ago. I had already had the part installed for right around a year and a half. Their customer support was very good when I called in with my concerns but I couldn't get a answer that I liked so that is why I went back to stock.
@@darkirondiesel they make good products, I would think something like this would be taken care of rather quickly. I loved the short shifter when I had it and would probably go that route again, just don't have the time right now to mess with it.
I only ever fill the nv5600 from the top. 6 qts. I drove last year 120k miles at that amount with trailers up to 30k combined weight and never had an issue. 465k miles unfortunately I don't know if it's original.
What about us with a 2003 5 speed NV 4500? Am I just SOL? Side note: If you tow or travel up steep grades, *_always_* overfill the NV56 or NV45 to a total of 5qts. 4 is fine if you don't tow or never leave flat ground. The engineers themselves admitted they forgot to calculate those situations when in the design phase.
Do you have the dual sb ceramic or organic? I swapped out the ceramic after a couple years for the the organic and its a night and day difference in drivabilithy. Would never recommend the ceramic version to anyone who has to drive their truck every day for work.
I’ve got an 03 with the 5600. Just did a southbend single disc thinking that would help with shifting. Getting into second is hard to find with out going to third gear first. I didn’t see much my way of brass when I changed the fluid. Any thoughts on what would be causing it? Synchros?
@@Foxtrot_Vet Thanks for the input. I'll check out their clutch once I toast this one. I've added some tuning and will be throwing a bigger turbo soon. So I figure it'll happen relatively soon.
What fluid do you use in the nv5600 and how much. I just bought one from a transmission shop and they said to add 8qts of 75-90 gear oil. But everyone else uses synchromesh and they only use 6 qts?
I just bought an 03 5.9 Cummins a few months ago. It has 2” spacer level and 35” tires but the truck wanders all over the place when on the highway. I just put a thuren track bar in to replace the 250000km stock one but doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. I also tightened up the steering box which makes it steer a lot quicker but seems to make the wander more pronounced. Have you had any issue with your dodge?
No my dodge rolls down the highway like a champ, but I have a whole new front end in it. My first suggestion would be getting a wheel alignment because if your tow is set incorrectly that can make the truck wander. Also check all your front end parts, in fact just take it to a reputable shop and tell them you want them to look over the front end and do a wheel alignment if nothing is majorly worn out.
Instead of screwing up the shifter ball you could have used a washer under the shaft where they thread together. Find the right thickness and it wold have changed the orientation of the ball
Just subscribed i just picked up the exact same truck same color and all haha 03 3500 crew cab shortbed single rear wheel nv5600, gonna follow and maybe do similar stuff, awesome man!!!
Here in Saskatchewan, we don’t have anything unless provided by the manufacturer, in which a good 60-70% of diesel owners do a DPF delete the second warranty is up. Haha. But I know Ontario you need to get your vehicle emissions tested every 2 years unless it’s registered as an antique or classic car. Or it’s newer then a couple years. Not sure on the exact age before it needs testing.
Awesome Video Brah! Greetings from Montmartre Sk. I have an 03 cummins and been having problems lately. What is your knowledge on injector leak back? Or injectors pouring WAY to much fuel into the cylinder and causing the oil pan to fill up with oil. The truck is parked and after it ran away I don’t want to even try starting it again until I have some more ideas on where to start. The turbo is fine, and I was able to choke out air supply before she tore herself to pieces. I am a journeyman heavy truck mechanic but don’t work as a mechanic anymore as I’m now back on the farm. Also, I don’t have a lot of experience with the fuel side of the common rail cummins. Can you do a video on this topic?? Any info would be great. And if you need a truck to diagnose or whatever to show how to diagnose or work on let me know and I’m sure we could work something out.
Hey buddy, what I would do first is pull the injectors out of the truck and have them tested. There are also fuel feed tubes that go from the fuel lines to the injectors through the head, if one is cracked it could be dumping fuel into your cylinder head. But ya pull the injectors and fuel tubes out and then go get the injectors tested there are a few places in Saskatoon that do it. DSG and IDP both test them
4:24 EXACTLY what I was thinking! Glad you mentioned it. 👍🏻

Well let’s hope for my sake that it was a one off situation, or that they fixed the design flaw haha

I think I have 6qts in mine as well but I was able to fill it through the top bolt hole of the pto cover
I do 8 quarts in NV5600. No drive shaft leak. Shifts way better. Runs cooler.
I'm very curious if your stood up to the test of time! Let us know! Thanks for making such a great video about this.
It’s still on the truck today and no issues!
I just push on the gear pattern with my palm and twist. It’s always spun gradually since new
Never thought of that!

I was gonna say get a ffs knob, seen you had a ffs condenser cover
Yeah they have nice knobs but I’ve always wanted a hurst pistol grip shifter so that’s what I ordered

Just the way south bends are. I’d recommend going with a Val air stock or 400hp clutch
@@Foxtrot_Vet Thanks for the input. I'll check out their clutch once I toast this one. I've added some tuning and will be throwing a bigger turbo soon. So I figure it'll happen relatively soon.

Can you drop a link for the hurst knob??

Best to use Penzoil syncromesh 8qts
Should of went with Core Shifters. $300 get stick / base/ ball/ bushing/ gasket. It’s either a 28% throw reduction or 15% throw reduction…
2001 Dodge Ram 3500 dually 2nd Gen Manual transmission does not run has fuel pump issue asking $4500

I’ve always been able to move the shift pattern thing with my palm
Yeah someone else said that too, I never even thought about trying that
Great video, wonder if they have quick shifter for 6.7L 2018. I extended my shifter by 6" to give me leverage.
I don’t think they make a short shift for the g56 because the shifter mechanism is a different design
Beautiful truck
Thank you
awesome again my dude
Thanks buddy
I can't see advantage to making the shifter shorter unless you have really long arms. The original shifter knob is right where it should be.
