Hi Raleighnut, just wondering if the 8 speed hub gears, are varied enough to ride steep hills? Appreciate your feedback as I am thinking to purchase a Moulton. Cheers from Mike
Hi Michael, Thank you for your message. This bike had the Sturmey Archer 8 speed which did get me up hills easily enough, but chewed itself up, sadly. So, 4 or 5 years ago, I converted to a 9 speed with quite a large cog at the back, so uphills are really easy. The ‘down’ side - ie. going fast downhill - is less satisfactory as I have found that I occasionally run out of gears and have to spin ridiculously fast. Back to the 8 speed: If Pashley are using a different internal hub (Shimano?), that might be a good route to explore. But - final thought on this? - I wish in retrospect that I had spent a little more off the bat and gone for a model with a front derailer. Tom
