You are a local guy, know a ton of the SoCal OC scene, and really love VW. Super cool. But you never even removed the engine in this one. It should have been titled" talking about how to remove a beetle engine, without ever doing it!!

Is it just me or did he not show the location of the lower bolts/nuts?

I must have blinked at the part where he removed the engine.

It looks like a Beetle not a Bug. Much earlier version of VW.

@@bret7306 It seems that you're right. In Australia the ones up till 67 were regarded colloquially as Beetles and when the shape and look changed began being called Bugs. It might have been just a local thing.
I had a '65 and a '67. Both with 1200 cc engines. I did see 1300cc engined Beetles but they were the classic 66 shape. We used to have a Friday night race in the workshop. From jack under the car to engine on the ground. It was amazaing how quickly an engine could be out. I still remember my owners manual and the 'routine' maintenance owners were expected to do back then. Everything from adjusting valve clearances, setting point gaps to peening over rivets when replacing brake linings.
I much prefer the taillights in this one but I don't think any of us could ever love a 6V generator. A handheld LED torch would have better light outputs.

Make sure the car is level. 3 ft. up.

Man I like your style, can you do a transmission removal if you ever need to remove your transmission?

What do you mean by safety stands? What do the sheet metal ones look like?

    • @Mikefngarage

,back in the 70s there was a hippie in my neighborhood that. Had a bug with over a million miles on her my cousin knew the guy from grade school I brought that guy up with my cousin recently. And after he and i are Grandfathers i asked him how that guy did it. The response was he was so fast at getting the engines in and out of VWs he. Would steal a car and bring it. To a parking lot Where he would swap motors with the stolen one and his car he told me he could do the swap. By himself in 2 hours to avoid getting caught by the police. He apparently. Put the stolen one back where he got it with a different motor in it ? The guy was a musician and would drive back and forth between New York and California Accumulating those miles i guess he did the same thing on the West Coast as well whenever i saw the guy he was always. Fiddling in his engine compartment ? My Dad. Owned several air cooled bugs in the 60s and 50s and i remember them being everywhere. I looked so i guess that hippie guy had many to choose from ? I always wondered if the owners ever figured. Out why their cars didn’t run. Well all of a sudden the guy is. Still alive according to my cousin and he is still a long haired pot smoking guy all these years later btw he was a band mate Of my cousins also when he was on the East Coast i guess he stayed at my cousins house like i said i was a little kid and lived on the same street. As that cousin

funny My cousin sold me my first bug too. I could have bought the 59 rag or the rebuilt 62 and I bought the 62 because the heater channels were rusted and the motor was running on 3 cyls on the 59. now I wish I bought that rag.
