We need more! So many great classics I want to purchase! Also how about remastering PS3 games so we can play them natively on PS4 and PS5 without streaming!
People have pointed out in Sly Cooper that the Mz. Ruby rhythm boss fight has been butchered (even more than the HD Collection version). The fight plays out way faster than the music you have to keep in rhythm with, making it more frustrating to complete. This is a clear issue in the way the PS4 is emulating PS2 games. So I hope they won't treat it like the HD Collection and actually patch it this time. For the time being, the best workaround is switching to PAL mode when doing that fight.
Gran Turismo 3 and 4, and Rainbow Six 3 being added as PS2 games would make me VERY happy. Those games along with the classic Star Wars Battlefronts and LEGO games were my childhood
Gran Turismo might have licensing issues. Because real cars. Also I doubt we'll get Classic Battlefront as Stand-alone releases when we just got the compilation.

To me Sly Cooper looks like the PS5 runs the game in 480p, while the OG PS2 ran most games in 480i (some games can do 480p or be forced via Mods, which gives a very similar look on a decent upscaler). PS3 is clearly a lot sharper, so it looks like this is the actual highest ingame resolution. TR on the other hand is 16:9.... on a PS2 game. Which could mean that it ran letterboxed or anamorphic. Which could explain (especially the first option) the more blurry picture
7:29 you know i gotta wonder. if what we now consider inverted controls were the norm are these really inverted controls or did we invert the control norms ourselves and the new controls are the real inverted controls.
It's 960p like all other PS2 classics. People forgot what 480i/480p look like. The reason people are complaining is because many PS2 games had this exaggered blur effect that doesn't upscale good and blurs the image a bit but it's still sharper than the HD version on PS3.
If the performance also drops on PS4 Pro when Enhancements are on, then it suggests a CPU issue. Emulation can be CPU intensive on PC, so it wouldn't surprise me if this also the case here.
I'm guessing especially PS2 emulation can be intense. I've having the hardest time emulating it. It's always the same issue. Low FPS. Graphics and everything else are great. I've tried two PCs and even a powerful Galaxy S22 Ultra.
@@WickedRibbon Would you mind sharing your PC specs? Perhaps it'll give me a better idea. One was indeed an older PC, but the other was a fairly new HP laptop. Perhaps I just need a more powerful PC.

Just want to quickly interject with Sly 1 at the moment since I'm unsure if its noticable to others, the PS4 version has a significantly higher clock speed compared to every other version of the game. The PS3 remaster runs at 101.7% clock speed, and the PS5 version runs at 100% clock speed when compared against a PS2. The PS4 version however runs at 115.5% clock speed, which is far far faster than the game is intended for (a prime example of this is the Mz Ruby boss fight which is a rhythm game, you will notice it is exponentially harder on PS4 when trying to time the inputs). As speedrunners, we are hoping this gets fixed since clock speed is something that affects the games physics, beyond just "the game is faster". This also means that for every one minute of real time, PS4 is 9 seconds faster for no reason. Posting this here so that people are aware that the heightened clock speed is a bug on the PS4 version only. Unsure why this is the case, maybe the PS4 version was just more sloppily put together, but at the moment we are just hoping for a patch of this since its a dramatic difference to playing the game. Currently I recommend staying at base camp with PS2/PS3, or using the PS5 version to play Sly 1 at its normal intended speed. The PS4 version's clock speed is just very broken at the moment
Oh my god you don’t understand how much of a hassle I went to play that game💀! I don’t have a pc but I had a ps4 and had to wait to get it jailbroken because of my ps version and thankfully it got a jailbreak release and I went straight to downloading it😂!
no it isn't at all. They completely nerfed the shadows and lighting effects in the PS3 version... best way to play it is the PS2 version on pcsx2 in 4k, widescreen with the no-blur patches..
You should be able to use your original disc. Microsoft did it right by making the games run better and allow you to use the disc. Instead of buying it again.
Now I have each gaming Console on my PS5. Toy story 2 (PS1), Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (PS2), Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2010 (PS3), Mortal Kombat 11 (PS4) and Resident Evil 4 Remake (PS5)
This is good for people who don't keep consoles but may want to revisit some titles from back in the day. For example I love my hardcopy of Twisted Metal Black but if I ever had to downsize for any reason, Id keep it in the way of the PS5 version (more than likely its a PS4 variant) but its cleaned up so much better. Its not Xbox level convenience but its fine for the now
It's nice to see the older titles on the service that didn't have trophy support finally get them. I can play these games anywhere else with better emulation, so the only draw for me is having that trophy data on my record.
Will definitely play Sly Cooper again! I can think of a few instances in game where rewinds and save states are going to be helpful. ofc would be nice to see high res modes, especially on PS5
these consoles could have been sold out if they would only add a emulator in each of them letting you play whatever you already own. but no, they must transform it in something you have to pay for regurarly because you have to own nothing and be happy

GTA LCS, GTA VCS, Def Jam FFNY, Scarface, Godfather, The Getaway, Need for Speed Underground 2 , Most Wanted, and Carbon. The Getaway and The Getaway Black monday. Tough because a lot of the games I want might need their licenses renewed and I don't think Sony or the publishers will pay to renew them.
the big issue with some of the ps2 games on ps4 especially, less so on ps5, is also issues with scaling the framebuffer effects, those are what are so hard to emulate, and there are severe issues with scaling framebuffer effects on some games still to this day, playing gta sa on pcsx2 at high render resolutions still does has issues with overlaying the heat haze and blur effect, its like a proto bloom effect and doesnt align with the rendered geometry well at all at high render resolutions and of course none of the fmvs will be easily upscaled if they are being emulated, most of the cutscenes in sly cooper or more so tomb raider will be fmv and heavily compressed and locked to a 480i render due to the source material
I sure enjoyed this video Ryan! It's amazing to see the first Sly Cooper game available to play on the PS5 now and it is about time since there is the whole Jak & Daxter trilogy and now even The Lost Frontier! What's funny about the Tomb Raider game is that its one of those games that I had bought used for my PS2 after 2020 and have intended to play. I bought it because after playing a demo for it I loved it and was amazed with the graphics for a PS2 game so its no wonder that is available to play now.
This was a very low effort PS2 emulation. There's no reason why this shouldn't be the best emulator. Even the pc ps2 emulator can make widescreen In terms of BC xbox does a much better job. Heck they even added ray tracing to some old xbox games
Definitely want to see them go back and update the previous PS2 Classics to use this new emulator if there are no major issues with them. Probably won't happen, but it would be nice to see.
Side question: Regarding Toy Story 2 now having trophies, what happens if I am half way through the game? Do trophies I have already done automatically pop? Or do I have to start a new save?
How do you get to the menu where you change controls for these games? Man I want the original Resident Evil 2 and 3 on here so damn bad. The save states and rewind would make it so awesome! Especially when doing Nemesis fights and wanting to practice them.
I have noticed that the resolution does look like it's uprendered in Clone Wars. But the uprendering doesn't work in Sly Racoon and Tomb Raider Legends. Those two games are supposed to be uprendered and it just isn't working from what I see. But Clone Wars looks to be 1440p I think?
PS2 games that have already been released in a previous collection, like Sly on PS3, kinda just makes you wish we were somehow getting that collection if the performance is better there.
Maybe a dumb question, but shouldn't inserting the original ps2 disc (Tomb raider or Sly for instance) entitle me to play/download the emulated version at no additional cost? I mean I purchased the game already... Isn't that the case on Xbox?
@@princegroove You should care mate, it's 500 times better than whatever emulator they're using, and it's completely free if you just download the ROMs. Actual official ports or emulated rereleases made by billion-dollar companies are worse than fan projects making no money off of it, let that sink in. Please mate, you can emulate PS2 games on pretty much any decent computer or phone from the last 6 years, I myself have a 5-year-old laptop that can very easily run PS2 games at 4k with all the bells and whistles. @Harkins1721 Yeah it's 3 or 4 games a month. Sometimes there are issues, but they are fixed pretty quick. Some games like Resistance Retribution get enhanced further. It now features it's infected mode. Which unlocks different areas and story for the main game. Like an alternative mode.

Just wanted to ask, are they problems in the ps4 version of the game or when run on a ps4? i play on ps5 and want to do both versions, will i have these issues there too?
How could PS4 be a bottleneck for PS2 games sounds more like the emulator is just unoptimized because the weaker Xbox One is able to emulate much more demanding Xbox 360 games
The Xbox 1 does things a bit differently they use partially recompiled versions of the game rather than just emulation by itself. That could well help things because emulation is CPU intensive and the CPU in the PS4 is very week even by the standards of when it came out.
@@onehitsword6800 it’s is It’s on ps+ premium for almost a year (even before when it’s was ps now). But it’s streaming only because sony still keeping the ps4 alive and not making a native ps3 emulator for ps5. This is the reason why the ps2 games took too long to arrive to ps+.
I'm not sure what's with Tomb Raider: Legend, but at least in Sly case it seems that games seem like lower resolution than they are because of interlacing - when you paused the game, you could see ghosting (like Sly being at two positions at the same time). Even in native PS2, games with progressive scan were always sharper than interlaced counterparts, so it's a shame that the interlacing is at fault even today when playing older games. It's a shame though that Sony didn't try to somehow improve deinterlacing - PCSX2 has a lot of deinterlacing options and some games (including Sly) have even special patches for completely removing interlacing or implementing actual widescreen (that unlike more universal widescreen hacks doesn't introduce graphical glitches) and with these patches, PS2 version is really, really close to the HD version and it could help here too. The ideal way to improve the game could be to implement these patches and also, for example, HD textures for UI and the game or even higher-quality movies (that's what Nintendo did for emulated games in Super Mario 3D All-Stars, for example), but unfortunately it seems Sony doesn't really want to put that much effort to - what is ultimately advertised as - just emulated PS2 games. On the other hand... well, this is at least stable emulation that's working better than older PS2 to PS4 emulation and the games aren't that bad looking either, so it's good for folks that don't want to tinker with emulators and just want to buy the game and play it on their modern PlayStation and that's fine.

Something that i noticed is that if you bought toy story 2 on the ps3 store, you get the ps4 and ps5 version for free
I just have a small 1080p monitor for my ps5 setup so it looks good to my eyes. Hopefully they continue to make improvements like they have with the ps1 and psp emulation. Trophy support for all three games and tomb raider and Star Wars being in widescreen is a pleasant surprise. Overall happy and excited for more games to get added cause I’m having a blast with these first 3 already.
hopefully this is just the start. there's still a bunch of ps1 and ps2 games i'd eventually like to see in the classics catalogue, fingers crossed.
Man, after Dark Cloud and multiple other PS2 games came out in HD with higher textures… just crazy.
I'm raised with inverted left and right camera controls ever since the Spyro games, and I'm sticking with it (in platformers).
Very happy about sly 🙏 hoping we get more ports and hoping to get infamous 1&2 one day 🙏
Damn Ryan, you’re on a streak, so many quality videos back to back to back, pretty much every day. Good to see, love your content ❤
Mz. Ruby just can't catch a break.
This is only an issue with the ps4 version. Just played the boss on ps5 and it was perfect
@@nicholasdangelo7747 Good to hear. Btw, do the Mz. Ruby and Panda King levels have any fps drops? I remember those being an issue on PS2.
@@GmNdWtchr96 Ok, I guess that makes sense with GT.
And yeah sorry I didn’t mean to sound like I wanted the individual BF games lol, I agree the Classic Collection already fulfills that purpose.
@@GmNdWtchr96if only Sony used disc's
If they used disc's for backwards compatibility then licensing wouldn't matter as licensing only applies to digital purchases
That's why on Xbox Forza Horizon 1-3 and Forza Motorsport 5-7 are playable only with a disc
Invert-ception...
I really want the lord of the rings ps2 games. Would love to play them + The Third Age once more
Sly Copper it's definitely not 480i. It's either 480p or 960p. Will wait for John from DF to give me exact resolution.
It's definitely not uprendering I'll tell you that. Clone Wars is the only one that is actually uprendering correctly. It looks 1440p.
@@Hypno-Swag Performance is usually excellent on PC with PCSX2, unless you're using quite an old machine.
@@WickedRibbon Would you mind sharing your PC specs?
Perhaps it'll give me a better idea. One was indeed an older PC, but the other was a fairly new HP laptop.
Perhaps I just need a more powerful PC.
@@Hypno-Swag I'm running a 7800 XT + Ryzen 5800X3D. Massive overkill for PS2 emulation. That said, I've also run PCSX2 on much lower spec.
Make sure you're using one of the nightly builds. They are massively improved over the - now outdated - stable version.
@@WickedRibbon Thanks. I appreciate it.
I want SmackDown Here Comes the pain and SVR as well and so much more.
That would be amazing but those kind of games will never happen
Love here comes the pain but we never gonna see it because license issues with wrestlers, take two own the wwe video games license and thq is dead (the current thq is nortic games and they already own aew). Also Chris Benoit in it and this is problematic.
The only wrestling game i can think can come to the service is rumble roses and it’s basically here comes the pain with dead or alive skin.
Tomb raider on my ps5 looked actually sharper
Everybody buying $70 games releasing this years while here I am spending all my money on ps1/ps2 games instead of new gen games (only exception was Elden Ring DLC.
I just want them to finally add all the ps1 and PS2 resident evils with fully trophy support, upscaling and frame rate options.
The only PS2 game I want put on PS4/5 is Scooby Doo: Night of 100 frights.
My favourite PS2 game of all time!
Oh my god you don’t understand how much of a hassle I went to play that game💀! I don’t have a pc but I had a ps4 and had to wait to get it jailbroken because of my ps version and thankfully it got a jailbreak release and I went straight to downloading it😂!
The Getaway Black Monday with trophy support is my dream ❤
I would also love to see ssx3
Would be nice, but warner bros isn't consumer friendly...in fact....they couldn't get worse
yoooooo same my fav game to replayed it like 3 years ago awesome
Wild to me that the PS3 version that came out over a decade ago is the definitive version still.
no it isn't at all.
Amen! It's a no brainer
Hopefully in time for PS6. Completely agree with you.
Is there a PS2 category in the store or something to help find them easier instead of typing 1 by 1?
Soon as you boost Sly I saw the difference instantly on the Ps4. Good video "Mystic 👍
Its not Xbox level convenience but its fine for the now
Really hope they bring over some of the old crash games like twinsanity or tag team racing
im gonna grab Sly, I have TR Legend on the Series X via 360 backwards compatability
It's nice to see the older titles on the service that didn't have trophy support finally get them. I can play these games anywhere else with better emulation, so the only draw for me is having that trophy data on my record.
okay yeah I think the PS3 Collection for Sly Cooper looks a lot better
In resolution sure, but the emulated version is more accurate, and won't have the bugs the remaster introduced.
Will definitely play Sly Cooper again! I can think of a few instances in game where rewinds and save states are going to be helpful. ofc would be nice to see high res modes, especially on PS5
these consoles could have been sold out if they would only add a emulator in each of them letting you play whatever you already own. but no, they must transform it in something you have to pay for regurarly because you have to own nothing and be happy
its because they are out of touch with their core audience
@@btwiusearch2 also that, but its also a direction all of them GOT to take in order to stay "in". A direction not based on what the public needs or wants.
Licensing issues there. Xbox had a hell of a time getting the back compat support it has and doesn't even have everything
@@TheSoulWithin7 exactly I just hope that this generation of gamers has to experience licensing issues so they can finally take it seriously because when we tell them we want backwards compat they tell us old games suck
Licensing mate. People want a piece of the pie these days. They see value in making all the money off their IP.
Such a shame Sly Cooper isn’t the widescreen PS3 version. 😢
But it still is a version of it and it's still good.
I was subscribed to a PlayStation magazine at the time, and I remember checking out the demo for sly Cooper
I still ain’t never had a done dang Ol Ps3. Need tuh get me one.
Just saw they gonna add Daxter on June as well. Can’t wait to play it, missed it on the PSP.
It’s awesome that they did sly 1 but are they going to bring sly 2 and 3 onto ps5 as well
Probably later, they brought the entire Jak trilogy over.
the big issue with some of the ps2 games on ps4 especially, less so on ps5, is also issues with scaling the framebuffer effects, those are what are so hard to emulate, and there are severe issues with scaling framebuffer effects on some games still to this day, playing gta sa on pcsx2 at high render resolutions still does has issues with overlaying the heat haze and blur effect, its like a proto bloom effect and doesnt align with the rendered geometry well at all at high render resolutions
and of course none of the fmvs will be easily upscaled if they are being emulated, most of the cutscenes in sly cooper or more so tomb raider will be fmv and heavily compressed and locked to a 480i render due to the source material
Tomb Raider Legends is $7 on Steam, also why did they only add the first Sly Cooper and not 2 and 3??
Subscription service drip feed tactics.
Enjoy the scraps the corporate overlords give you.
Even the pc ps2 emulator can make widescreen
In terms of BC xbox does a much better job. Heck they even added ray tracing to some old xbox games
So Xbox S-X edition is a glorified last-gen (or older) console? 😂
No, thanks, don’t need an uninspired, mundane, and bottlenecked LBOX in my life.

New save. I beat the ENTIRE game and received no trophies.

We need the ps2 mortal kombat games
When is the new explore tab coming out
How do you get to the menu where you change controls for these games? Man I want the original Resident Evil 2 and 3 on here so damn bad. The save states and rewind would make it so awesome! Especially when doing Nemesis fights and wanting to practice them.
I have noticed that the resolution does look like it's uprendered in Clone Wars. But the uprendering doesn't work in Sly Racoon and Tomb Raider Legends. Those two games are supposed to be uprendered and it just isn't working from what I see. But Clone Wars looks to be 1440p I think?
Maybe its glitched right now? Hopefully they update them
Glitched like it was when they launched new PS1 classics.
@@XBrandon98X Yeah! As the description for the games all say uprendering and Tomb Raider Legends and Sly Racoon are just not uprendering.

Why didn’t you purchase the original gta games before they removed them? They were on PSN for like 5 years before being replaced with the “remasters”
Im so happy Sly Cooper is on here. I still have the PS Vita chip. Im definitely platinuming it 😊
Shawtys lika melody in MY heaad
PS2 games that have already been released in a previous collection, like Sly on PS3, kinda just makes you wish we were somehow getting that collection if the performance is better there.
PlayStation Stars is still down
Im gonna be real, I wouldnt mind native ps2 resolutions if that means that you can load games from the original discs
How does sly cooper compare to the vita version?
Runs a lot better
Maybe a dumb question, but shouldn't inserting the original ps2 disc (Tomb raider or Sly for instance) entitle me to play/download the emulated version at no additional cost? I mean I purchased the game already... Isn't that the case on Xbox?
I’m so glad I resubbed to Premium at the old rate; I can enjoy all these old favorites again.
U can emulate these games on mobile or pc and they look better
You can just buy them.
@@somethingthatisntcringe757 Who cares?
@@princegroove You should care mate, it's 500 times better than whatever emulator they're using, and it's completely free if you just download the ROMs. Actual official ports or emulated rereleases made by billion-dollar companies are worse than fan projects making no money off of it, let that sink in. Please mate, you can emulate PS2 games on pretty much any decent computer or phone from the last 6 years, I myself have a 5-year-old laptop that can very easily run PS2 games at 4k with all the bells and whistles. You should care because pcsx2 is objectively the better option in literally every department, please go support that instead of this. I mean come on man, you can literally put pcsx2 on an Xbox series, and it emulates PS2 games better than the damn PlayStation. If that's not a wake-up call, I don't know what is.
@@somethingthatisntcringe757 I absolutely don’t care because I invariably purchase the newest Nintendo and PlayStation consoles to play the current and prior generation of games. I’m so happy they brought back sly. Sly cooper 1 is my favorite game of all time. Was my first game I got my ps2
I can’t believe some comments 😂 We all wanted PS2 emulation regardless of 4K/60 features. I personally knew what I was getting into without remasters. They like oh but emulation can do this and that, well? Go ahead. I use emulators but try to keep accurate as to how these games appeared. I’m not oh 4K/HDR/60 widescreen hacks ON. Haha. Some people are just hilarious, these games were made way before that. Officially they are trying to keep the games as how they originally appeared. I have no problem with it, if you want to tweak things more that’s why PC is there for! This just proves once again why they don’t release old games via official means because people forget how rugged the PS2 used to be… the emotion engine hits them hard. 🥂
It's the same with the Metal Gear games, years of “just re-release the originals! No need for fancy remasters”
Then they did and ppl started shrieking cos a PS1 game looked like a PS1 game
@@sonicsean34haha! Exactly! I’m definitely happy with these ancient games as they originally appeared. If they never did it this way, well we would never see these old games ever again. Unlikely they would had fully remaster every single one it’s just so many PS2 games including niche ones, so this is the only way we would had gotten them.
I like how they added the PS2 into to the PS2 games. Wish they also did that for PS1/PSP games.
Wish they would just dedicate a full team to PS1/PS2/PSP ports for PSN. Get a few games every month. MS making game improvements with resolution and framerate is awesome and I wish Sony would copy it. Just the trophies, rewind feature and save states are a great addition.
They do already do this each month? New games are getting announced today.
@WllKiedSnake to my understanding it's been a slow crawl when it comes to releasing these games and when they do a lot of them aren't in the best shape. I could be wrong.
It’s currently outsourced.
I agree with you though, they need a team dedicated to it, maybe have some Nixxes and Bluepoint developers form a team dedicated to BC.
@@WllKiedSnake Rog, my mistake then. Good to see its 3-4 a month. I just hope this can transfer to PS6 with ease. I really dont want to buy my games for a 3rd to 4th time.

Sure, it could have been done better but at least we have it.
That option (enhancement) to turn off other options in the menu is the most redundent option I've ever seen.
Turns off rewind stuff. And having it off can improve performance.
Did you watched the video? It lags on ps4 with it on
Just wanted to ask, are they problems in the ps4 version of the game or when run on a ps4? i play on ps5 and want to do both versions, will i have these issues there too?
How could PS4 be a bottleneck for PS2 games sounds more like the emulator is just unoptimized because the weaker Xbox One is able to emulate much more demanding Xbox 360 games
It's sounded ridiculous when I heard him say the ps4 could be a bottleneck for ps2 games its just bad optimization not the ps4 fault
The Xbox 1 does things a bit differently they use partially recompiled versions of the game rather than just emulation by itself. That could well help things because emulation is CPU intensive and the CPU in the PS4 is very week even by the standards of when it came out.
Ditch the PS4 already and give us more PS2 games for PS5 immediately.
Some of the PS2 games have PS3 HD version. So why doesn't Sony just use the HD version... I forget PS3 is hard to emulate
Those can already be streamed. And a lot of those hd remasters sucked. Rather have the original PS2 games.
@@thelegendofstonecoldstevea3205 If the PS2 games stream this look, Than the HD remastered will look closer to 4K

@@BensyBens cool, but HD version should still be a option
@@onehitsword6800 it’s is
It’s on ps+ premium for almost a year (even before when it’s was ps now).
