It’s worth mentioning that The Sly Collection has its own issues. Sly 1 has redone music, which ruined the sync in the Mz. Ruby boss fight. Sly 2 and 3 don’t have proper widescreen support, the binocucom and black cinematic bars don’t reach the edge of the screen.
Not to mention Sly has numerous lighting issues in the ps3 version. It's most noticable for a cunning disguise as the end sections window shadow are completely ruined.
Also quite a few audio bugs. One of note being that the sound that plays while running near guards not stopping. (Though this may be an issue tied to me)
Porting classic games to PS4/PS5 with little emulator menus added, sold for 10 bucks a pop is such a great formula for bringing back classic games in my opinion. Despite the new features and whatnot being pretty simple, it doesn't take too much time and resources to do, so Sony can price it low and consider it a worthwhile investment even if it doesn't sell ridiculously well. And, above everything else, spending $10 to OWN the game instead of spending $160 a year to stream it, is the whole reason why people are way more excited about this than when the PS3 ports were added back in 2022.
Well "owning" in a sence that you use it as long as the systhem you play it on is supported. Renting it for what the company 20+years down the line feels like. No front to you at all. I just disagree with the modern gaming standarts. Miss the times i could buy a Game and play it without feering the company behind it shuts the servers down and make my game basically inaccesable. Or require me to download it to install the rest of the game. I feel more save on using existing Emulators on the PC 🤷♂. Or Play it on older hardware like ps3 etc. Again no front, your Opinion is valid^^.
While it is a tad disappointing that they didn't do too much to the game, I'd rather have it how it was on PS2 than a potentially messed up version(like the GTA Definitive Trilogy). I'd also rather have the original preserved, and then get a Remake later on(hopefully).
Yeah, I remember being baffled why is the PS2 version of the GTA:SA was on PS4 considering they have a HD version on PS3. Then I found out what that version was and was glad that they went with the PS2 version instead... until it was delisted.
It appears clear that PS5 version is bilinear upscaled 480p while PS3 is native 720p, so the PS3 version has superior resolution, and if outlines are tied to resolution, that could explain why Sly's outlines are weaker on PS3.
I did buy the game as it’s really cheap and it will show Sony that clearly these older titles need to be brought back to the modern era and given a much better treatment I mean hell who’s to say they can’t update sly 1 when they see people aren’t completely happy to see it’s just the ps2 port instead of the ps3 and give them a much higher resolution and frames per second. Still me bitching aside I’m just glad to see my favorite raccoon come back same way we all get excited for kingdom hearts to be ported basically everywhere lol
Honestly, I think it's great to see the PS2 version preserved as much as possible with the PS4/5 release. While widescreen would have been nice, the PS2 original holds up really well to this day and it's worth giving a shot.
I mean. Some could argue the OG PS2 version is better as opposed to the PS3 collection. I mean its been argued for years for the Ratchet & Clank Collection. I'm fine with what we got.
the upscale resolution should be higher tho i can run god of war 2 on my phone (Xiaomi 13) using Nethersx2 at 4K with 90-100% speed so i hope they willing to update the emulator in the future
I rather have the OG PS2 version, isn't that the whole point of the classics selection, what's the point having all this stuff he talked about having from the PS3 version when that's the Playstation 3 version not PS2, it defeats the purpose of having PS2 Classics what doesn't he get?
Also the PS3 collection of Ratchet and clank games offered nothing but a sharper 720p overaly, Deadlocked cutscenes are just are mess, they basically didn't even try with that port.
The thing about RPCS3 is it's still unstable. It can run, but you're not guaranteed stability. I played Sly 1, ripped from my own disc, on RPCS3, and it crashed on me a few times. It's still in Alpha after all. Even if emulation is possible, that doesn't mean it's good enough for a commercial use.
It'll get there, the software needs a lot of work and a fair number of volunteers are doing their best in ironing it out. It is a miracle that we have a PS3 emulator at all, if you told me in the past of such a thing I would have asked ya to lay off the whiskey.
The key point here is that RPCS3 was done by limited resource and still able produce a much better emulation than a multi billion company with a lot of resources and actually have the hardware and software for it.
@@zeroskaterz92 Well, unstable emulation is unstable emulation, especially for an emulator that predates the PS4. Although I don't think 'they have lots of resources' is as much of a fallback as some may think. There's, like... other stuff to do.
@@RippahRooJizah Oh yeah, same goes for this shitty new emulation, a shitty emulation is a shitty emulation that made RetroArch feels like a masterpiece. Other stuff to do what? You're confused with the word resources here, I'm not talking about the staffs, I'm talking about the tools. The fact that they still couldn't make a decent emulation for PS2 games after 3 console generation is a joke.
@@zeroskaterz92 I mean, I do put some blame onto Sony but I am looking at some surrounding things and it doesn't seem like there would be enough time and money for Sony to truly catch up. Oh, no, I'm not confused about 'resources'. What I said still stands.
I heard people had problems with her music button segment on PS3 as the timing was not correct like the original. But I didn't really have a hard time with it.
Nahhh, i am so happy i dont have to deal with the Mz Ruby fight glitches from the ps3 version. As well as when you sneak on walls once, sly will sometimes continue making that sneak sound while walking normally
Facts, that alone makes it not the Definitive version. Minor glitches is one thing, but the music synched to the fight is wild. Can't even play it right 😭
I will add to this that with the PS5 of the PS2 emulator version of Sly1, you'll get not only everything about the game in its full glory but also avoid some frustrating issues the PS3 version had (the infamous Mz. Ruby boss battle), and may find the original music tracks to be better than their remastered versions.
@@FlaseJarnton Probably because Sly is THE PS2 game running on an emulator, but Jak was ported. Or Jak had widescreen support on the PS2 as well, I can't remember if it did, but pick your answer.
It may not be a new game but I'm just glad that the Sly Cooper franchise still has a place in many hearts of people. So either way my prayers has been answered. :)
@@cj_skywalker I don't believe he did. He's referenced it every now and again with a demo disc (PS2) he played which included a demo of the game he clipped for about 5 minutes. Still, I'd love to see him playing a walkthrough of the series. I can only hope 🙏
@@nickneal8676no it’s not those versions are filled with missing features and bugs. Bringing the ps2 versions back is the best thing they could possibly do aside from enhancing them. It’s also really cheap so it’s nothing to complain about
Not only does RPCS3 work well, but it also supports the dual sense motion controller that the PS3 controllers and onward have. Sony's gotta step up their game.
Ever since Kutaragi left, Sony has done the bare minimum to preserve their legacy which really sucks. I get some of that is a great challenge, but exactly just look at how PCSX2 and RPCS3 are doing.
@@azoman7407 To be fair, I think what people need to keep in mind are two things: 1) Sony has to actually pay people to do this for their job, and I doubt they are without various time/quality constraints like homebrew emulators are. 2) These emulators mentioned predate the PS4. PCSX2 is over 20 years old. Could Sony do better? Likely, but homebrew was always going to have some advantage over anything Sony put out, and if something breaks, Sony is more on the line than an emulator dev who can fall back on some specific game issue/emulator still in development/computer not good enough/etc. As far as "But people playing their old disc games isn't profitable", at some point this is going to be too much of a minority, and the retro gaming market is too much of a wild card for Sony to depend on.
The new set of trophies is very much welcomed. It gives me a new way to play and think about the game that I haven’t done before. I 100% the first area and now onto Mugshot.
Great video showcasing the differences! Although, imo this is THE definitive way to play this game. It genuinely was better than I expected, you can switch between all region versions that the original games has been released by changing the console language if you wish to (making it more accessible than the PS3 version, which depending on your disc/region where you bought the game you’d be stuck with the default languages from that region), the trophy list is a big improvement compared to the PS3/Vita versions, you can rewind so you don’t have to redo missions that have been bothering you all over again, you can mess with the visual filters to your liking and, most importantly imo, you are playing the legitimate PS2 version, which means this port doesn’t have the weird changes PS3/Vita versions. The PS3/Vita versions are still awesome, but this new version is simply better imo, and so far I haven’t seen any issues like with the older PS2 games on PS4, so yeah, this port is a massive W in my book! 👌🏼
Man the Rpcs3 emulation looks gorgeous. It's a shame Sony hasn't put the effort into create a native PS5 emulator of the same quality. That said, a new and more challenging trophy list is very tempting. I'd love an excuse to Platinum Sly Cooper again 😅
RPCS3 is 13 years old and isn't technically 'complete', the PS5 is much younger. I don't think there was ever going to be a point where Sony's emulation would outmatch homebrew.
These trophies were very intelligently chosen. It got me to explore more of the game than I did when I previously 100%'d the first game in PS2 and PS3 versions. Doing 10 time trials had me blown away. I had no idea there were so many cheeky ways to speedrun the levels. I so hope they do the same to Sly 2 and 3, and perhaps, even bundle the three of them together for a discount so I can persuade my platformer friends to give Sly a chance. Sly 3 is the one I'm most eager for, can't lie. Adding online multiplayer to the Sly 3's local multiplayer would be SURREAL.
Widescreen hacks for PS2 games would probably have to work like they do on PCXS2, which is anamorphic which stretches out things like the HUD or 2D menus. Sure some pre-existing games can still use it but they could account for that during development and they can also be flawed in the case of the Jak games except X which has to vertically crop the image to make it widescreen so you get less viewing estate than you do in 4:3, for some reason even the PS3 remasters used this implementation. Also for things like not stretching FMVs. I'm biased though because I'm not a fan of the stretched HUD look, but I get it.
Yup. This is why I prefer PS2 games in 4:3. It's not worth the additional issues that come with it. Also some games have rendering issues where stuff outside the normal 4:3 window are culled right on screen making for annoying visual artifacts
@@richesse9740 That can be done but it requires a lot of effort to patch since you manually have to find all that UI stuff and manually change addresses to scale it. That's why you don't see it. In modern day even Sony would have to basically dig into the game's memory addresses and see what does what to get everything scaled properly which is probably too much effort with too much QA
ps3 emulation is one of the hardest systems to emulate it took over a decade before ps3 emulation was even created and its only even very recently that majority of games are in a completable state. Its not surprising hearing sony working on ps3 emulation it would open their doors way more for titles they would bring to the platform.
As far as I know it wasn't a decade before PS3 emulation was a thing but it still predates the PS4. Given that the PS4 couldn't do PS3 emulation too well overall and the PS5 is only a few years old I'd go as far as to say it would have been rough for Sony regardless.
They could at least get PS3 games to run at the original resolution with better performance and then just use some form of image reconstruction like FSR3.1 or this new image reconstruction tech Sony has called PSSR.
I already played the first Sly game on my PS4 yesterday, and most of it appeared as it did on the PS2, but cut to A Deadly Dance, you'll notice the button pressing sequence is faster than usual, which makes it just as hard as it was on the PS3.
I honestly don’t care about there being no improvements besides the typical emulator stuff. It’s basically giving the most authentic experience to the original besides the resolution.
If you turn off the rewind feature you can get better performance when you need it. Save states will still work, so you can just save whenever and load your save. To turn rewind off turn off Enhancements.
I actually just got Sly 1 and 2 on PS2 two days ago, I had 3, 4 and the remasters on PS3 already, and actually 1 and 2 on greatest hits in my sell/trade pile of things, but I'm a collector, and unless there were additional content or patches or whatnot to a greatest hits version, I go for black label 1st release copies for the collection, I'm pretty sure Sly 1 and 2 greatest hits don't have anything like that going on. Anywho, I have a saved game of Sly 1 going on PS3, haven't touched it in a few months, but I technically am in the middle of Sly 1 :)
Cynical you've made a HUGE mistake by failing to mention how many HUGE bugs the PS3 version has and that's the reason why the PS2 version is vastly superior because it does NOT have all those bugs. The slight resolution increase is NOT worth all the bugs that come with it, and that's a message you should be spreading. The number of them is very large and they are quite bad, the wiki page lists a lot of them but I can list a few of the biggest ones off the top of my head right now. 1. During the intro when you boot up the game, Sly is supposed to be covered in shadow darkness while he's traversing the rooftops during the scene, but in the PS3 version the shadow is completely missing. 2. During that exact same intro scene, the music is also severely bugged. The music is delayed and out of sync and only starts playing halfway through the scene, which completely ruins timing of the moment when Sly breaks the Chimney with his cane and jumps off and lands. However, this bug only occurs when you first boot up the game. If you start the game, then quit to main menu, this bug will not occur. 3. During the very first level after the intro scene I just mentioned, the music does not play at all. In the PS2 version, after you hold the O button to pass the water tower, the music is supposed to shift to a different song that plays for the rest of the level. This is the 1 soundtrack that is completely missing from the PS3 version and does not play at all. It only plays on the PS2 version. 4. Mz. Ruby's boss fight and rhythm game is completely ruined due to the music being totally out of sync. This is the most infamous bug that literally everybody knows about and it's very odd and strange that you don't mention it in this video. This information is VERY important and only a fool would leave this out of the conversation. 5. The music is generally bugged for most of the levels in the game, especially because the "sneaking" and "combat" versions of the themes often bug out and don't play correctly. Some of the voice acting is also effected by the desync. 6. The footsteps sound effect that is only supposed to play when you're behind and enemy always plays no matter where you are in the PS3 version. Just always. Never stopping. It's very annoying. 7. The character models in the game have a ton of clipping issues, there's a lot times where you'll see character's body parts clipping through other body parts, especially around the face and eyes and mouth. This does not happen nearly as much on the original PS2 version. 8. The lighting and color is significantly worse especially around light sources that change the colors around them. The yellow light from Flashlight Guards, Spotlights and Security Systems are also sometimes invisible, which is obviously a huge problem. 9. The game crashes occasionally on PS3, but never on PS2. 10. The Cooper Logo on the back doors of the Van is glitched on PS3. The texture is stretched vertically for some reason. On PS2 it looks normal. 11. The Developer Commentaries that are awarded when you complete all Master Thief Sprints were removed from the PS3 version, and so were most of the bonus videos from Sly 2 like the TV commercials. This one technically isn't a bug, but it IS another huge reason why the PS2 version is better than the PS3 version. The only positive thing I have to say about the PS3 Remaster is that they added the ability to invert the camera because that's the one huge flaw that the PS2 version was missing. Aside from that, there's nothing good to say about the PS3 version. Only a young naive fool with no life experience would be fooled by the slight increase in resolution. Just because it has a higher number of pixels does not automatically mean it's the better version. The difference in resolution is so small it's barely noticeable and is not worth all the bugs that come with it. Only someone who has no life experience would be tricked by that. We should all know and should've learned by now that the bugs and glitches are far more important than the graphics. Which is exactly why the PS2 version is superior in this case and you should be spreading that message, Cynical. You're failing really hard by leaving out this very important critical information.
FYI, you can also invert the camera in the emulator menu (Options button) on the PS5. Check the settings and select a controller preset with the horizontal axis of the right stick inverted!
I have been spreading the word to my friends to buy the game, I am so happy this is happening because there is hope for us sly fans to finally eventually get a real ps5 trilogy we can have, AND with hope🙏🏽 we could even get a potential remaster, god a man can hope😩
I feel like the Tango games team could make a really good Sly Cooper trilogy remake ngl. The art style they did for Hi-fi Rush in a 3D setting is exactly what could spice up Sly Cooper. Personally, I would be open to Sly1 being heavily redone/rewritten. Murray could be given back his original arc of learning to be himself instead of Sly.
I'd rather have the full remake of the trilogy that it deserves. You can only "remaster" a game so many times to the point where there's hardly a difference. But at least it hasn't been lost to the ages like so many others.
Honestly, I’m just happy that you don’t have to use cloud streaming in order to play sly Cooper on your PS4 or 5. stop complaining about nitpicks. it means those of us who aren’t interested in investing in third-party streaming equipment and software or Kent Ford to do that now have a means of streaming our gameplay to TH-cam or twitch, since we can now use the PS fives built-in native streaming software to do so. more people being able to stream. It means we can potentially bring in more support for the franchise and potentially show Sony that it might be worth their money time and effort, revitalizing the franchise with another sequel and the final payoff to whatever that movie did eventually became TV show before it was cancelled trailer was supposed to end up being. Plus if enough people show that they enjoy franchises like this coming back and especially with games like this where the last in the series is still only on PS3. We may also accomplish a secondary goal of convincing Sony that it’s worthwhile investing in having an emulator developed even though it’s a lot more difficult in there for a lot more expensive for PS3 to be able to get more downloadable games.
I'd happily leave behind the PS4 if it means the emulator can be further refined to incude higher resolutions, fps and widescreen hacks. That 4k60 part of the video really made the game pop and shows there's a long way to go before we see more feature pairity to those enjoying the games sailing the high seas. I know my rig can't handle rpcs3 but perhaps pcsx2 & a retexture pack similar to the one that's being worked on with Gran Turismo 4 and its modding community may really modernize the games
I personally don't own a PS5 or the PS premium sub but I'm really glad their actually srtarting to drop Playstation 2 games now. I really hope they bring Ratchet and clank 1 to Deadlocked/Gladiator to the the service, Wondering wether they keep the Online mutiplayer selection in it too.
I really hope that Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, Secret Agent Clank and Daxter going to come to PS4/5 aswell. Would be so nice than every J&D and R&C are somewhat on the current gen consoles. ❤
The ps2 version is the definitive version. The Sanzaru ps3 version was a poorly done port so Im glad they scrapped it. Sanzaru remixed the music in the first game, ruining the Mz. Ruby boss fight and making it so the music doesn't play properly in some areas. They also cut the developer commentary that gets unlocked after master theif sprints. And the widescreen on the ps3 version makes it so you can see models that were not meant to be seen and the cutscene bars dont reach across the full screen in the 2nd and 3rd games.
That's because they 'hd trilogy' got poorly 'remastered' creating a bunch of technical issues the originals did not have on the PlayStation 2 unlike the PlayStation3
I’m honestly really glad that it’s internally rendered at 480p. I feel whenever you emulate a PS2 era game at 720p or higher, the hud does not hold up well at all and ends up looking very blurry. Unless I’m playing a remaster that updates the hud like the Kingdom Hearts collections, I’d rather play internally at native resolution.
My guess as to why there is no widescreen is due to potential issues. Many games on PS2, and other mainly 4:3 games, was to render stuff just inside the view window and anything outside wasn't rendered. My guess is that increasing the view to 16:9 would cause issues with stuff popping in. I think it's better to just leave PS2 games in 4:3. Besides most games that supported 16:9 on PS2, especially before the Wii, were worse in 16:9. I also don't mind original resolution as it often makes 2D stuff look better like sprites and most particularly the UI. Would be cool to have native resolution and higher resolution for fans of both. I also like CRT filters too, when they're of a high quality
I honestly don’t mind that there’s no widescreen or anything since I’ve never really cared for stuff like that what I am glad that is there are the filters and rewind
U can remap right stick controls. Turning them modern. That alone makes PS5 version the best period. I HATE the reverse camera controls from PS1 and early PS2
I honestly never got the chance to play the first game im just glad I get a chance to play the game honestly i also never had a ps3 but i do love sly Cooper amazing for the the og games I have played
I love sly cooper and would happily buy the trilogy again, but, no way am i buying a worse version as compared to the ps3 version. this is why i have a ps3 sly collection, this is why i bought it, and this is why i can't get rid of my ps3 because the new systems just don't have the sly collection or the ratchet and clank collection either... or resistance and many many other games.
Back when I got the Sly Collection on PS3 one of the levels in the Chinese area had monkeys inside a dojo that screamed like a laggy smoke alarm. I actually played through the og ps2 version recently and noticed that the screaming monkey audio was way less grating on the ears. I guess Sanzoru games pulled a Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and messed up the sound mixing too.
If you pause the video during any movement of Sly, on the PS5 version, there's motion blur. The lines are also jagged on the PS5, whereas on the PS3 version, they're much smoother and the textures are crisper. Is this due to the PS5 version running in 480p and being upscaled to 1080i?
its quite surprising to me that just like the Jak games they choose to bring over emulated PS2 versions instead of porting the already existing HD remasters made on the PS3. Cant wait for the inevitable PS2 Ratchet games that will also be stuck in 4:3 cause they refuse to just bring over the HD versions
I will argue that the Sly Collection on PS3 had a lot of issues and was pretty sloppily made. I do still wish they could have made it widescreen and maybe better resolution, but atleast Ms Ruby’s fight won’t be out of sync with the music. That’s a godsend.
@@sly3o I will argue Jak collection had plenty of issues too. Lot's of missing visual effects, punch direction bug and forced widescreen (if you didn't know, Jak in widescreen zoomed in the image, so you lose a ton of fov). The PS4 games when played on PS5 are decent though they could have been a lot better. They do have a debug mode, optional 4:3 and more of the visual effects intact than the PS3 version though.
Dunno, I prefer the new emulated version. It nails the lighting, the music is in sync, no bugs or visual discrepancies. I get to have the game instead of streaming it. And the trophy list is excellent.
Are the bugged loading screens and photo capture screens in Sly 2 and 3 as broken on the PS3 release correct in the PS5 release? And can I choose original resolution for the PS5 release?
While I do love that Sony is bringing this series back, I get the same HD Result with my PS2 Emulator on PC, PCSX2. Also sad fact: The Collection on PS3 had a 1 frame delay, so the rhythm mini game for one of the bosses is almost impossible to beat.
If i have to be completely honest. I just bought it as a sign to show Sony. I want my damn raccoon back. Cause expecting quality wasn't really in the operation plan, and that sounds quite sad but reality. If I want high quality emulation community for sure, but not Sony
trust me the ps2 version is much better especially when you get to the swamp. the PS3 remaster version ruined a lot of the rythm based features and combat the original had. I am happy it's the original ps2 version. i hope the ps3 emulator is true though because I miss my DW6 and i want to play it without streaming lol
I agree the 3 emulator is kinda in the middle to me. It has more of the definition and still feels like a cartoon to me. The 2 emulator feels like the comics to me. I would do the 2 for the new trophy hunting options. I wonder if the emulator has the glitches from 2. Or whatever the speed run tricks are called. I also noticed that for some reason the digital PS3 version of the collection had the original mix for the simon says.
Their PS2 emulator still has issues and it is such a shame that old games arentbeing updated. Had my fair share of visual bugs when going through the game including the van and most enemies just completely losing textures and becominf black voids during the final section
Bro I have a question the new ps2 emulador is only for ps5 right? Because I play Jak and Daxter on the ps4 and other ps2 games like gta 3 or sa on the ps4 and I feel that on ps4 we still have the old ps2 emulator
The Jak and Daxter games do not play at a true 16:9 aspect ratio, the 16:9 in those games is just a cropped 4:3 aspect ratio Whenever I play those games on my PS5 I switch them from 16:9 to 4:3 to, ironically, give me more screen space
That was pretty common in the era to just crop because it allowed them to save on processing power. Expanding from 4:3 would probably cause performance issues so they often just cropped 4:3 since it was still the default then
To be honest i like playing sly 1 on my ps5 than any version. At least its less painful to lose because the rewind feature. Unlike the entire sly series the first game is very similar to crash bandicoot in gameplay, before this release i only play sly 1 for 10 minutes on my ps2 (i didn’t start with sly 1 i actually started with sly 3) and with this release i actually close to finish the game.
@@FlaseJarnton no Because the game release in 4:3 and don’t have 16:9. I don’t know what jak and daxter you talking about. The PS2 games have widescreen support because naughtydog worked on those emulator versions of the games on ps4! (also they released back in 2017 years before the ps5) the psp game (the lost frontier) have native widescreen because… it’s a psp game. The psp have a widescreen.
Now we need the other 2 games, god of war, ratchet and clank, the rest of the ps2 tomb raiders, silent hill ( at least 1, 2 ans 3) perhaps some other ps2 gems.
If you stop and think about it for a second. It’s not that Sony can’t create a PS3 emulator as clearly they can, it’s that they won’t release an emulator that can’t emulate ps3 titles at higher resolutions and at 60fps and be able to emulate a vast % of games. I’m hoping PS6 gets such an emulator. Here’s hoping even if the chances are low.
Perhaps the reason we're not getting enhanced PS2 games is because they want to greedily hold back for a second release. Example: Sly legacy edition 2024. Sly ultimate HD edition 2025.
This needs to be pinned.
God the unsync ruby fight was a pain
Not to mention Sly has numerous lighting issues in the ps3 version. It's most noticable for a cunning disguise as the end sections window shadow are completely ruined.
Also quite a few audio bugs. One of note being that the sound that plays while running near guards not stopping. (Though this may be an issue tied to me)
@@youngmastereraqueez9558 Yeah, the distance for when the "sneaking" sound plays was made so high that it's playing almost all the time.
I just don’t like the drip feed system. Classics catalog was added 2 years ago and we barely have three PS2 games added since then.

TH-cam knew they needed to push this to us FAST, gotta see my boy sly cooper on the new consoles
Does the ps5 jak have proper widescreen or cropped? What about the ps3 version?
Can you make Sly Ps4/ps5 widescreen in settings?
The person who says PS2 is better is crazy on drugs.
Do you really mean it?
4:3 is not a bad thing. It’s how the games are supposed to look
4:30 ???
Indeed, even when give option I still prefer to play in 4:3
Why is Jak on ps5 widescreen but Sly isn't?
Well. Wide-screen would be nice. 4:3 16:9 is fine. I'm just glad to be able to play this game conveniently.
I hope there is an option to crop it into 16:9 on Sly PS5
It's funny hearing you say it has all the 'enhancements' of the PS3 version while showing gameplay of the Ms. Ruby boss fight😂😂 (Just funny timing)
I heard people had problems with her music button segment on PS3 as the timing was not correct like the original. But I didn't really have a hard time with it.
I never even noticed. I always did that fight using only the visual cues. That’s a huge problem though.
@@WllKiedSnakeI had to turn the music off to beat Mz. Ruby on the PS3 version
Fuck that version of that boss fight, I won't miss that shit at all. Thank God that Sony chose the ps2 version to bring back with the new emulator
Can you make Sly Ps4/ps5 widescreen in settings?
@@FlaseJarnton The only way I can think of is by changing the aspect ratio in your TV settings as I see no way to do so in-game.
Imagine all of the Ratchet & clank collections of the games all on PS5
I will buy that in a heart beat.
Why is Jak on ps5 widescreen but Sly isn't?
@@FlaseJarnton I have no clue

It may not be a new game but I'm just glad that the Sly Cooper franchise still has a place in many hearts of people. So either way my prayers has been answered. :)

@@azoman7407 To be fair, I think what people need to keep in mind are two things:
1) Sony has to actually pay people to do this for their job, and I doubt they are without various time/quality constraints like homebrew emulators are.
Why are you comparing this to RPCS3, which is a PS3 emulator...
Sly 1 was a PS2 game...
@@blah7645 Because in the video the PS3 version of Sly 1 was a point of comparison, on top of RPCS3 being used later in the video.
Damn, stumbling upon this in the PS Store was a shock but a welcome one
The Mz. Ruby fight is still out of sync, though, isn't it?
@gamestation2690 This version is based on the ps2. It is running like the original sync and not the shit ps3 version
@@nakamichi97 I already run it on PCSX2 with HD textures.
RPCS3 is 13 years old and isn't technically 'complete', the PS5 is much younger. I don't think there was ever going to be a point where Sony's emulation would outmatch homebrew.
As long as the OST is in sync for the Mz Ruby bossfight, I'm happy!
I just bought the first game on Ps5 and I love it already.
I hope sony ports the other 2 games!
I don't know about the other games, but burnout 3, revenge and dominator have widescreen patches on pcsx2 that properly scale hud to 16:9
@@richesse9740 That can be done but it requires a lot of effort to patch since you manually have to find all that UI stuff and manually change addresses to scale it. That's why you don't see it. In modern day even Sony would have to basically dig into the game's memory addresses and see what does what to get everything scaled properly which is probably too much effort with too much QA
Are the ps2 jak games on ps5 proper widescreen or cropped?
Can you make Sly Ps4/ps5 widescreen in settings?
I'm surprised Sony hasn't ported the classic Ratchet and Clank games to ps4/5 yet
Give it time, I’m sure it will come.
ps3 emulation is one of the hardest systems to emulate it took over a decade before ps3 emulation was even created and its only even very recently that majority of games are in a completable state.
Well, at least Sony hasn't completely forgotten about Sly. This still doesn't make up for everything else though.
I hope the Jak and Daxter Trilogy gets this treatment, I can't even consider going for the platinum trophies with the ps4 version
I don't think they will since they can be played on ps5 because of backwards compatibility

Sly and Kingdom Hearts are my favorite series ever! To see Sly on this channel makes me so happy😁
Yea I will be picking it up in order to get more PS2 classics to show we want more classics or remakes on the Playstation consoles
I love this series and miss it so bad
We may also accomplish a secondary goal of convincing Sony that it’s worthwhile investing in having an emulator developed even though it’s a lot more difficult in there for a lot more expensive for PS3 to be able to get more downloadable games.
my boY Jared out here serving, keep it up you're doing great my dude
💚
I absolutely love that you can change version from pal to ntsc!
They changed the trophies for sly 1
I personally don't own a PS5 or the PS premium sub but I'm really glad their actually srtarting to drop Playstation 2 games now.

Daxter confirmed for June 18
The ps2 version is the definitive version.
The Sanzaru ps3 version was a poorly done port so Im glad they scrapped it.
Sanzaru remixed the music in the first game, ruining the Mz. Ruby boss fight and making it so the music doesn't play properly in some areas. They also cut the developer commentary that gets unlocked after master theif sprints. And the widescreen on the ps3 version makes it so you can see models that were not meant to be seen and the cutscene bars dont reach across the full screen in the 2nd and 3rd games.
I am curious, how do the load times stack up between the PS2 version running on an old PS3, and running this PS5 version?
They are pretty quick.
Honestly, I'll take it.
Maybe it's just my personal experience, but I found the PS3 versions of Sly 1, 2, and 3 to not be very.........stable.
That's because they 'hd trilogy' got poorly 'remastered' creating a bunch of technical issues the originals did not have on the PlayStation 2 unlike the PlayStation3
Will we get sly 2,3 and 4 aswell later on?
Great coverage! Keep up this content.
Do a comparison with all consoles
PS2 vs PS3 vs PSVita vs PS5
I hope we get Hot Shots Golf 3 released on PlayStation Plus soon.
The trophies are much better than the boring ones in the collection
I honestly don’t mind that there’s no widescreen or anything since I’ve never really cared for stuff like that what I am glad that is there are the filters and rewind
Does the ps5 jak have proper widescreen or cropped?
Can you make Sly Ps4/ps5 widescreen in settings?
U can remap right stick controls. Turning them modern. That alone makes PS5 version the best period. I HATE the reverse camera controls from PS1 and early PS2
I honestly never got the chance to play the first game im just glad I get a chance to play the game honestly i also never had a ps3 but i do love sly Cooper amazing for the the og games I have played
The uprendering doesn't seem to be working in these games. Scratch that. In Clone Wars it works. It looks 1440p. Looks good.
20 seconds ago is bananas
Bananas used like coins in Donkey Kong Country 💔🙊
I've got the trilogy on the ps vita ❤
bro they should make sly cooper remake. if that happens im locking myself in my room for a week.
its quite surprising to me that just like the Jak games they choose to bring over emulated PS2 versions instead of porting the already existing HD remasters made on the PS3.
They’d have to make a new and better remaster for the first 4 R&C games because those remasters suck ass.
@@MadDogSolo Yeah I'll take the classic PS2 emulated versions. The helmet not fitting over Ratchet's head in any of the games was head-scratching
Emulated versions are better than the broken PS3 ports. R&C trilogy on PS3 is awful
Now I'll have to wait for both Band of Thieves and Honor Among Thieves to come to the PS5.
Dunno, I prefer the new emulated version. It nails the lighting, the music is in sync, no bugs or visual discrepancies. I get to have the game instead of streaming it. And the trophy list is excellent.
Literally immediately bought it once I heard you don’t need PS Plus to purchase
Are the bugged loading screens and photo capture screens in Sly 2 and 3 as broken on the PS3 release correct in the PS5 release? And can I choose original resolution for the PS5 release?
Sly 2 and 3 aren't on PS5 yet
My question of this version is, how it compares to the Classics Catalog version of The Sly Cooper Collection version.
Community emulators doing it better yet again
One thing that really bugs me.
Aspect ratios are _ratios,_ not multiples, so 4 *to* 3 and 16 *to* 9
Their PS2 emulator still has issues and it is such a shame that old games arentbeing updated. Had my fair share of visual bugs when going through the game including the van and most enemies just completely losing textures and becominf black voids during the final section
Saw Sly Cooper and clicked so fast
Bro I have a question the new ps2 emulador is only for ps5 right? Because I play Jak and Daxter on the ps4 and other ps2 games like gta 3 or sa on the ps4 and I feel that on ps4 we still have the old ps2 emulator
The Jak and Daxter games do not play at a true 16:9 aspect ratio, the 16:9 in those games is just a cropped 4:3 aspect ratio
Whenever I play those games on my PS5 I switch them from 16:9 to 4:3 to, ironically, give me more screen space
That was pretty common in the era to just crop because it allowed them to save on processing power. Expanding from 4:3 would probably cause performance issues so they often just cropped 4:3 since it was still the default then
Does the ps5 jak have proper widescreen or cropped? What about the ps3 version?

Can you actually buy and download it straight to the console like toy story 2? (Bad comparison I know)
Last time I played Sly on PS5 it was cloud-based. Think Netflix streaming. Ran perfectly though. Just shame I can't buy it and download it.
Yes the PS2 version of Sly 1 is $10 on PS4/PS5, and the Sly Collection is still on PS Plus Premium but since it's a PS3 game it's streaming only
Yes. You can play it locally.
Does the ps5 jak have proper widescreen or cropped?
Can you make Sly Ps4/ps5 widescreen in settings?
To be honest i like playing sly 1 on my ps5 than any version.
At least its less painful to lose because the rewind feature. Unlike the entire sly series the first game is very similar to crash bandicoot in gameplay, before this release i only play sly 1 for 10 minutes on my ps2 (i didn’t start with sly 1 i actually started with sly 3) and with this release i actually close to finish the game.

@@FlaseJarnton no
Because the game release in 4:3 and don’t have 16:9.
First one here!!! Sly Cooper is my childhood soooo excited!!!
Would this new emulator help with getting Ape Escape 2 running like it's supposed to on PS5. That version of the game is absolutely DIRE for no reason
If they add it yes. Same for Manhunt, Okage and Primal.
Probably an issue with inaccurate emulation which shouldn't be an issue on PS4 or PS5 since they should have more than enough CPU power
Now we need the other 2 games, god of war, ratchet and clank, the rest of the ps2 tomb raiders, silent hill ( at least 1, 2 ans 3) perhaps some other ps2 gems.
NOW DO THE REST OF THE SERIES COWARDS
Actually there is a feature that also is on Sony emulator that can be quite helpful with unchangeble reverse camera although it doesn't say it
I hope to get a better, non PAL version of Ape Escape 2.
The best way to emulate a ps3 is to buy a ps3 and jailbreak it
Ghosthunter & Daxter coming too, announced today. Hopefully they bring more.
How i play it: search for ISO file, burn into a dvd, play on My ps2 😂
Perhaps the reason we're not getting enhanced PS2 games is because they want to greedily hold back for a second release.
Example:
Sly legacy edition 2024.
Sly ultimate HD edition 2025.
