  • The Washington Seaplane Pilots Association put on the Lake Whatcom splash-in on August 10th at Floathaven Seaplane base.
The weather was great, there was tons of food, and there was a brief presentation about the Aquatic Invasive Species procedures at Lake Whatcom and Lake Samish.

Seeing these 70-80 years ago must have been amazing,..still is. What iconic image is the float plane on the water.

@@willicat44 that's a 1947 Republic SeaBee. Weird looking, but very capable small flying boat.

A doctor in my home village of Bath ( not Bathurst ) New Brunswick , rebuilt/restored and flew aircraft. ( He was said to be the only civilian east of Montreal certified to declare an airframe airworthy. ) He built a Seabee from a couple of wrecked ones and flew it. I remember it travelling overhead at what looked like about 10 MPH. It was a beautiful craft.

@@robertdavenport6705 it's always great when airplanes get rebuilt and get back in the air. Even if it takes a few planes to make one.

So NOW I understand finally why the Seabee only has avionics and gauges on the left side...so the passenger has space to drop the anchor!

Start with a good looking aircraft, remove the wheels and put on floats for a beautiful aircraft. Love the livery on the Beaver and Lake Renegade.
