I agree with your observation about Vineyard Silk Shimmer. It has a mind of its own, and there's no getting around that. I found it particularly stubborn in the Bright White color, slightly less so in the Marine blue.

Thanks for pointing out the way to use your thumb like you would a laying tool. I find the thumb method so easy and accessible that I've only used my laying tool once since I bought it years ago. I used it with Splendor stranded silk on a Santa face, where I stitched half the face using my laying tool, and the other half using my thumb. I wanted to see if using the laying tool instead of my thumb made a noticeable difference. It didn't.

Thank you for confirming my sentiments. It's definitely not one of my favorite threads though I do love Vineyard Silk Classic. Interesting though that you found it easier to handle in the blue as opposed to the white. I wonder if it might have something to do with the stitch or the needle size, canvas size, or some other factor? Anyhow, thanks so much for watching.

It might have something to do with the dye or dyeing process having different effects on the Shimmer thread from one color to another.

If you use metallic thread, like on a pillow case, can it go through the washer and fryer?

I probably would not put it through the washer and dryer ( never a good idea with needlework, hand wash only - if you must - Stephen)

@@russellstephen5836 that makes sense but we had so many tea towels when I was little that were hand embroidered and we always just put them through both washer and dryer. That’s why I wondered.
