You are right, it is perfect for wet rocks, that is what I used mine for to make a 3D embroidery of humber river. And I am watching this video because I still love it. #flair

Stephen - pls add more videos on “Flair”. I’ve searched Google, TH-cam, images, and several FB needlepoint groups - so far, you’re the only person to go beyond holding up a card and saying “This is flair” or “Use short lengths of Flair”. What stitches do you recommend for Flair; which stitches should be avoided. My LNS recommended “Flair” for the nose on a snowman stocking I’m stitching. I’m a Flair virgin, scared of my first try and need guidance. Thanks so much

Sally - I am including all the information I have on Flair that I’ve collected from various resources for our in-shop Guide to Threads at Rittenhouse Needlepoint. Some of the information is probably included in the video but it does include stitch suggestions gleaned from the Stitches for Effect series of books (which I highly recommend purchasing, a great resource!) Hope this helps. Thanks so much for watching. Flair

Size equivalent: 1 strand of Flair is equivalent to one strand of Pearl Cotton #5

Useful for backgrounds, night sky, water, fields, mountains, snow
Flair has a nice glimmer/shimmery effect that will not overpower the other fibers in your work. Its very subtle shine will add interest to your work. On painted canvasses it reinforces the color underneath. It combines well with Neon Rays, Frosty Rays and Shimmer Blend RibbonFloss.
Remember to lay Flair, as you do not want it to twist. The effect will be well worth the effort.
Tip: Other yarns may be inserted inside Flair to change its look. A strand of floss can change the color just enough to give unlimited shading opportunities
Note: Flair will unravel. There are several ways to control this. Use short stitching lengths and a larger than normal needle. Come straight up and straight down through the canvas and be careful not to drag the Flair. A small amount of Fray Check or clear nail polish on the end after you thread your needle is another way to solve this problem. Cutting Flair on a severe diagonal can help. Practice will help you control the yarn, as your own personal stitching technique is as important as any trick.
      Suggested stitches/uses for Flair:
      • Diagonal Mosaic = Excellent background (try alternating rows with same colors in Neon Rays and Flair) (1.29)
      • Jacquard Stitch + Neon Rays = Night sky (1.37)
      • Nobuko = Snowy areas (1.40)
      • Old Florentine = Snow on rooftops (1.42)
      • Medieval Mosaic = Water/sky, backgrounds and more (3.53)
      • Metallic ribbon + Upright Oriental = Excellent background (especially when using either light or dark colors) (1.51)
      • Willow stitch = Excellent background stitch for large areas (1.53)
      • Moorish stitch + Metallic braid = Excellent background stitch (also sky, background, rooftops) (2.51)
      • Vertical Jacquard = Waterfalls, water/sky (2.63)

First, thank you for your prompt response! Much appreciated as I’m rushing against the calendar to finish this stocking.
Your last paragraph answered my question perfectly... specific stitches. 👍

Stephen I know you are probably very busy but do you think you could make a video like this about rainbow gallery threads like Very velvet, eyelash and wisper in the future?
