The “DO. IT. :)” is my favorite line delivery in the show I think. I quote it all the time second would be “why would I do this” when Gus is talking to Bolsa.
I never understood why his Chilean past was significant. They never set up that there was something he was hiding that law enforcement could find that would be problematic. It seemed put in there like there was some secret that would have a payoff but it never came. What did I miss, why would Gus get nervous when they mention his lack of records?
Thanks so much!! I was only able to do Gus vs. Hank thanks to an awesome template from a site I use for some stock sound effects / graphics (and the song that played during that segment) but I'll take full credit for the closet gag!
You should have pointed out what Eladio meant when he said “I know who you are.” Gus Fring was undoubtedly a general or some military officer in Pinochet’s totalitarian regime. And there’s many clues hinting at this. 1. Gus Fring is tidy and disciplined in his demeanor to a strict level. He rarely slips with his rigid meticulousness, which makes sense if he were trained to be part of a totalitarian regime. Plus, he’s intelligent to an almost preternatural degree. 2. Hector refers to Gus as the “generalissimo” in the cold open to “One Minute.” This connects to Eladio’s warning that he both knows who Gus is and that he is no longer in Chile, meaning his position of influence and power has no bearing in Mexico. 3. When Hank was digging for Gus’s records as a Chilean citizen he couldn’t find anything. Knowing Gus is scrupulous with hiding his tracks in all areas, it makes sense that he would have had his documents connecting him to the Pinochet regime shredded or disappeared-especially if he wanted to build a new life and career in the states! I’m pleased the writers decided to leave us clues about his past rather than spoonfeed it to us like children!

@@betterwatchtv I don’t think it is such a good idea. I honestly believe Gus is better as a villain with a mostly unknown backstory. It gives his character more mystery and thus is more interesting imo

Agreed! And the funny thing about Saul's acting in that scene is that Bob had later said that he really struggled that day (mostly the part with Jesse in the car) and felt like he was letting everyone down. It makes sense that he still wasn't used to the more vulnerable scenes!

On the "look at me Hector" thing. And given how it plays a pretty big role between Hector and Gus in Breaking Bad. I really thought it was a missed opportunity to not have Hector look at Gus for the last time after the meeting in BCS S6 Ep 9. Hectors final appearance. With the Cartel not believing Gus' involvement in Lalos death being the final nail to stop the looking. But they kinda did the opposite. Hector stared Gus down as the twins took him away.
That's interesting. I think it works out story-wise for Hector to wait until Face Off to look at him (his final appearance in a different way), so I think I understand their choice!
1:30 Actually I worked in security for two years so I might be able to shed some insight. Generally, a camera system is handled by a server, and then distributed to any number of monitoring stations. So, you can have your security team in an office working the cameras, moving them around to track the action, while also having the big boss man watch the cameras on his laptop in, well, anywhere in the world! So it's accurate that Gus is watching the feed, and seeing the camera moving "by itself," because in reality it's being operated by someone else who knows where. This kind of thing features pretty prominently in Better Call Saul as well, which I hope you'll get to eventually! One thing that really blew my mind while working security was that at one site, I had access to doors and cameras in Korea, all the way from the US - with the click of a button I could cause doors to lock on the other side of the world!
I thought the “is today the day hector?” Line was strictly referring to when Hector shot Max. It might mean that Gus will kill hector, but I don’t think hector looking at him was what he was referring to.
The Gus-Hank Street Fighter segment was hilarious, along with that bit about Crawl Space being swapped out with Closet. 😂 The Michael Scott cameo was appreciated as well. Just wondering, what do you think all of these film artifacts are, and why does BB have so many of them?
Thanks!! I don’t know if it’s typical for shooting on 35mm film (whereas Better Call Saul used digital), but I guess debris just sometimes gets on it! There’s some interesting info on the Wikipedia article for “Film gate”
It's really interesting that you say that, because Bob had later said that he really struggled with that whole scene (mostly the part with Jesse in the car) and felt like he was letting everyone down. It makes sense that he still wasn't used to the more vulnerable scenes!
6:32. Every car suits each character. Jesse had a run down car showing that he still lives like a meth head. Mike always stuck to the same car the old reliable. Gus drove the safest car because he is a cautious man. Walt drove in a ugly car and represented his poor and embarrassing life and his new car later in the show represents his sloppiness as he is throwing around with his money (same can be said about Juniors car)

It's been fun to revisit the show through these (even tho I finished the show, like, 3 or 4 months ago), I binge-watched them from Pilot this episode in one day. A side-note: on the "carnita" bit, in Portuguese we say "carne" as both beef, and any general meat (so it can also mean pork, fish, or more importantly chicken), and Spanish shares similarities with my language, so I think it also goes the same for them. IDK if anybody that actually speaks Spanish confirmed or denied that, feel free to. A suggestion: I think a special talking about the vehicles of Breaking Bad would be nice. Everybody talks about how they use color, but I think the cars reflect everybody's personality or how they want to be perceived really well too.
Thanks for binging! That would make sense about carnitas… And that’s a cool suggestion for a video. I think you’re the 2nd person to suggest that! I have it on my “one day” list!

Thanks so much!! Maybe they did some softening as well. At one point when they talked about the yellow, they said it was like a shorthand for quickly explaining where we were. (Since they use it basically every other time, not just for flashbacks.) My interpretation is that we didn't need that context in this episode, PLUS it would probably be annoying for most of the episode to be yellow-tinted. You're right, though, it did probably help with the de-aging as well!

Fun fact in Malcolm in the middle in season 7 episode 3 at 2:26 there’s a bald Bryan Cranston kinda looks like season two Walt but not really because of no mustache
Oh, funny! Thanks!
My favorite time of the week! Thank you for this great series
Thank you so much for being here!
9:26 i always took gus saying “is today the day” as him alluding that that day was the day that max was killed, because we get the flashback right after
Hmm, that's interesting! I don't know! To me, the flashback seemed to be triggered by "he's looking into my past."
Yeah it's the day that max got killed imo
“I’m sure if you keep digging, you’ll find me” is such a brilliant and well delivered line. Perfectly captures Gus
Absolutely!
Anoher great video. Not gonna lie, I have never supported another creator via subscription, either on here or thru Patreon. The quality of these vids compelled me to become a member, not sure if any other creator will reach that bar. Extremely excited for your BCS run, as I feel that show is much more "untouched" by the TV show TH-camr/analysis community
Thank you so much!! I do know how rare it is, and I appreciate it immensely!
Same here
Thanks, NataXano!! 🙏🙏
always felt it was a shame they dropped the massive lore bomb of gus fring not being his real name, and never followed up on it in either show.
There’s still time for a Gus prequel that takes place in the 80s!
that's because Hank's actor really was confused about Giancarlo's name and vince thought that scene was so good he kept it in. bravo vince!
I always thought Gus was just really good at covering up his tracks so there was no record of his existence before moving to Mexico
@@betterwatchtv I don’t think it is such a good idea. I honestly believe Gus is better as a villain with a mostly unknown backstory. It gives his character more mystery and thus is more interesting imo
@@betterwatchtvNot a good idea, continuity is well as it is. Gus being mysterious is part of his character, making some cheap prequel about his origins would destroy that feat
1:54 That's such a neat little detail, it's insane how consistent they kept that detail in both BB and BCS that Gus always keeps everything around him meticulous and tidy
Edit: Also, how Saul acted in the scene with Andrea and Brock is really close to being Jimmy again, his humanity and heart starting to seep a little again
Agreed! And the funny thing about Saul's acting in that scene is that Bob had later said that he really struggled that day (mostly the part with Jesse in the car) and felt like he was letting everyone down. It makes sense that he still wasn't used to the more vulnerable scenes!
@@betterwatchtv Awww, I hope Bob knows his acting is top-notch as always, because his acting there brought so much replayability to BB after watching BCS
Absolutely. So sad that he never got an Emmy during Better Call Saul. 😢
2:12 why didnt they mention gales purchase here? They had proof gale purchased the machinery to make the lab
Not sure! Maybe there’s a strategic advantage in not sharing too much!
5:33 THIS IS THE MOMENT HEISENBERG BECAME LUFFY
@@betterwatchtv Damnit I stopped on that part and immediately checked the comments like "No one is gonna do it, nobody's gonna say *THE ONE PIECE IS REEEEEAAAAL* "
I took “is today the day” as the anniversary of when Hector killer Max
Hmm, could be!
Awww, Hank thinks he's going crime -fighting with his honest Brother-in-law, as if they're starring in a primetime weekly cop show.
Hi, Meth Cartel hitman Mike, parking up right beside you. ✋
Ha!
Gus saying it will triple their profits is similar to how Walter says stuff like that about his product
Ah, great point!
God im looking forward to celebrating 100'000 subs by the end of the year! Your Video flow editing and the small insides that you bring me to every single episode is just mind boggling for me. I guess everybody on here has already watched so many BB analysis Videos but yours are just superb it's amazing really. I enjoy every single episode of it!
Godspeed and greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Thanks so much!! 🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭 Although maybe 100K is possible by the end of 2025!
The editing for just small scenes are amazing! The Walter White Closet Space got a good chuckle out of me! Thank you for putting great effort into finding great details that people usually miss or crazily miss like all those film artifacts. How do y’all notice them? Thank you.
Thanks so much!! 🙏 I stumble across the film artifacts while editing, but I don’t know how others find them! Lots of persistence!
1:41 i’ve always wondered if the police started looking for him because he was at gales apartment or because his family or friends reported him missing
Oh, I've always assumed it was because of the older guy on the phone who spotted him at Gale's apartment.
@@betterwatchtvi’ve thought that too but isn’t it kind of strange how he’s a suspect even though all he did was walk in the apartment and then walk out
There is that thing about killers returning to the scene of the crime!
If his family or friends had reported he's missing, the police would have a real photo and the name!
Having a letter stands out? Seems like I'm winning at something then! Another great episode, I look forward to the next one!
Thanks, Alex!!
Fantastic channel. The editing was always on point but its even better now.
🥹 Thanks so much, FlatX!
The next episode boutta be the father and son fight against Waltuh and Jesse. Keep going champ i love your videos man all of the recaps are great Keep going pal :D

Yay Thx pal :D
Thank you again!
I think it works out story-wise for Hector to wait until Face Off to look at him (his final appearance in a different way), so I think I understand their choice!
that "That's what she said" had me balling, Jesus, I think I need some sleep, I'm soon finished with them all *existential dread rapidly approaching
Hahaha! Well, a new one comes out tomorrow at least!
Nice! Thanks for sharing! And yes, I'll be doing Better Call saul next!
Very good :) I look forward to it.
@@Bozothcow Thanks!
I thought the “is today the day hector?” Line was strictly referring to when Hector shot Max. It might mean that Gus will kill hector, but I don’t think hector looking at him was what he was referring to.
That would make sense…
The Gus-Hank Street Fighter segment was hilarious, along with that bit about Crawl Space being swapped out with Closet. 😂
The Michael Scott cameo was appreciated as well.
Another banger sir
Thanks, NataXano, and thanks for joining!!
10:06 he says "carne", which is just a catch-all term for meat. Carnitas are made with pork
Ah, that makes sense, as some of the translations do seem to be questionable. Well, it led me to Googling “beef carnitas” and there *are* recipes! 🤷
the editing is soooo good
Thanks, kirill!
this is so high quality! especially the debrief bit, keep it up!
Thanks!! 🤜
Great video! Great job with 3:37.
Thanks! 🤜
"...where something delicious is always cooking!"
Makes sense, gus.
@@betterwatchtv damn i didn't know that emoji existed.
Always watch your videos twice: once when the members only release drops, another when it releases to public
That’s so awesome! Thank you! 🙏
The scene where Saul visits Andrea, he feels a lot more like his old self from BCS. Like he dropped the persona a tad.
5:00 😂😂😂
It's really interesting that you say that, because Bob had later said that he really struggled with that whole scene (mostly the part with Jesse in the car) and felt like he was letting everyone down. It makes sense that he still wasn't used to the more vulnerable scenes!
@@betterwatchtvHe really underestimated how good of an actor he was cause he lead a show that rivalled Breaking Bad. Crazy
Indeed!
This episode was great!! I loved the Walt-in-the-closet gag and the 16bit Hank v. Gus segment. Your editing gets better every week!🎉
🤜 Thanks!!
i loved the editing as always
Thanks, Teodor!!
Thank you for another well produced video
Thanks again, Joe!
nooooo you cut out and didn’t mention the chicken sounds Gus makes at 11:16 because he’s the chicken man
Oh, hahaha! I never thought about that! But I was debating what noises/moments to leave in as I was editing it!
i’m about to start season 5 in my rewatch it’s good to be caught up on your recaps
Awesome!!
It's honestly a crime that Giancarlo Esposito didn't win an Emmy after being nominated for Breaking Bad.
I agree! (Although the Emmy crimes against Better Call Saul are more severe, IMHO!)
@@betterwatchtv I couldn't agree more. The phenomenal actors earned it. 😤
Yeah. 😢
Indeed! People have suggested doing a video just about all the cars!
Love your channel. Found this yesterday and I'm very happy I've got here before you're at the end

That’s so awesome! Comments like this motivate me to keep going! Thank you again!
Why didn't Hank ask Gus about the Madrigal device shipped from Germany signed off by Gale?
Yeah!! That seemed to be the most compelling piece of evidence! I suppose Gus would just say he has no idea (since he might not know anything about his parent company) and they still wouldn’t be able to pursue anything further.
this episode has is really good especially the end scene which explains Gus entire hatred towards Hector
Absolutely!
10:00 I can't ever recall Gustavo truly smiling before this moment.
Great point! I can only think of fake smiles!
That's because he was in love and happy. Gus only thought about revenge after this moment.
6:06 are 2 film artifacts, one in hanks eyes and one is right after the first one
🤯 WOW, well done! And you found one of the elusive "hair" artifacts! A much rarer breed! I'll correct the counter next time!
how do you people notice these
Great question! 😆 I’m watching closely over and over (for other things) while editing these videos, so I stumble across them.
Your videos are equivalent to the blue product, 100% pure and really addcting! Never stop cooking, Maestro!!

I wish we got a solid explanation to the origin of Gus’ OCD at some point.
It does seem to come out more when he’s stressed! (Especially in Better Call Saul!)

Walt's hand on the steering wheel at 5:31 is not Walt's hand
✋
@@betterwatchtv You replied around the time I finished the latest video, and now I'll be keeping up weekly, and what a good bunch of episodes you got left. Keep up the good work, and I'll wait patiently for that "one day" lol

🥹 Aww, thanks a million!!
The yellow filter in the mexico scenes make the actors look younger, there is a video with color correction of the pool scene that you can see more wrinkles and age signs on Giancarlo, Bauer and Margolis, idk if that was intentional but it's pretty interesting
And once again nice video my GOAT breaking bad youtuber Better Watch TV 💥💥
Thanks so much!! Maybe they did some softening as well. At one point when they talked about the yellow, they said it was like a shorthand for quickly explaining where we were. (Since they use it basically every other time, not just for flashbacks.) My interpretation is that we didn't need that context in this episode, PLUS it would probably be annoying for most of the episode to be yellow-tinted. You're right, though, it did probably help with the de-aging as well!
