      Today's music with all the technological advances is just garbage. You will never replace the sound of real instruments being used I n the studio, that's one reason these kids are so desensitized when it comes to music; it's really all about the unimaginative lyrics and image these days.

      @Toothless Bull Dog 2.0 IMHO he was in the league of the Mozarts. Yes different style of music and yes most of didn't know of him publicly until the 70s but he was truly in a league of his own in talent which takes nothing from Mozart.

      Articulate? Your having a fucking laugh. "Self Angrendisement" ain't even a word. I don't know what the fuck he was trying to say, but articulate he is not. And "Dance to the beat of his own drummer?" Doesn't even make sense.

    I'm so glad that everyone realizes how great he was. I would never have believed that Gene S. would say all those great things about him. I'm telling everyone about his VAULT. Prince kept all his unpublished songs there. It had to be drilled open. I was just floored when it was said that Prince could have put out an album/mo. for over A DECADE!!! I CAN'T even fathom that, can you? He truly was exactly like Gene S said. I wish everyone could find out how great he was. All the young NEED to find out about Prince. Being in MN, he never left us. Stayed here his whole career. His P. Park will become a museum now. Damn- not fair. Prince IS the greatest guitar player. Why didn't everyone GET THAT?

    I am a huge Kiss fan and have been since I first saw them in 1976. I am also a huge fan of Prince. I never understood why people felt they had to be a fan of one art form or type of music. I like Chic and I like Rush. Good music is good music.

      So true. I can listen to prince, iron maiden, chet atkins and Joe pass all in the space of the same hour. I feel blessed to have developed a broad taste in music. I wasn't like that as a teenager though, I couldn't see beyond metal / hard rock then.

    That was awesome Gene Simmons, absolutely from there heart... When I herd you blast him for dying the way he did, I knew you where just frustrated, I didn't put much thought into it and this interview from the heart proves you really cared about him. Yes, pretty cool, Prince could be anywhere out of this cold ice box, beaches of Malibu, Hawii, anywhere warm and exotic, but he didn't want to be :) he'd be right here in Chanhassen in the middle of January (hell) having his little parties and he loved it :)

    You know I have been a fan of Prince since the first time I heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and his meteoric rise to fame didn't shock me at all. But when Bruce's "Born in The USA" was fighting it out with "Purple Rain" for top music spot I had no idea how much these artist respected each others art and as a person. I now see all these great artist new and from the past from all across the musical spectrum "rock, pop even country" who are coming forth and saying how much his music meant to them and it just blows me away. Gene Simmons from KISS who I thought didn't like anything that wasn't connected to straight up Rock and Roll saying these things, well just WOW. Probably not since Elvis Presley "with no disrespect to David Bowie or Glenn Frey and other legends we have lost so far this year" have I seen an artist whose music touched this many others. Like Gene said One of a Kind.

    As a musician myself i always admired Prince.
    Always wanted to play like him.
    Unfortunately never got that high.
    My father (we don't have the best relationship, but I won't take that away from him) he plays all kinds of keyboards amazingly and when it comes to keyboardists in popular music, he is usually not thrilled with their play.
    With Prince is different. He always sits down, listens, and nods appreciatively. Not only when it comes to keyboards but guitar as well.
    So if a fussy snob like my father silently listens to Prince playing, then Prince really rocks ;)

You loved all of us and we all knew it. You and James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell, Jackie Wilson, John Lennon, George Harrison, B.B. David Bowie is a world wide artist in his own category. He started glam rock, inspired all artists including Prince. Prince sang 'Heroes' at his last performance on April 14th. He sang: "All that will be left are the sounds of Hereos like you and me"...he was obviously singing this to Bowie in heaven. I found that eerie. There will be no other Prince as there will no other David Bowie. They are in their own unique category and untouchable. The only difference is that Bowie lived longer and had a longer career and was a complete visionary. They were both authentic artist. I love them both and they will continue to inspire for many many years.

    It's interesting to here Gene say how quite and shy Prince was off stage. I just recently watched another video where one of his band mates specifically said the Prince you saw on stage was the same guy off stage. He said there was no difference......that is who he was. From his self assured personality, to his clothes, always dressed up, never bumming in sweat pants etc. Everything. He said he was the same guy. Maybe he was just shy when he met people for the first time. Maybe he was also quite because he sounds like he respected Diana Ross.

      Gene Simmons talks total sh.t alert ! Tom Petty and others were embarrassed not impressed by Prince solo during 'My Guitar gently weeps'. Clapton was being sarcastic when he said go ask Prince and Jacko owned Prince who looked a total c.nt at james brown show..

    Gene is a good guy and I was interested to hear that Clapton said those things about Prince . Gene also mentioned the "guitar gently weeps " set which was epic. Clapton is pretty amazing to say what he said. To many losses in music in the past few months . Peace to Prince.

    You're nobody...until somebody"important" discovers you. Black America knew how special (and talented) Prince was when his first album ("For You") dropped in 1977. I remember him getting booed off the stage in 1981 when opening for the Rolling Stones. America has always had a misplaced understanding (and acceptance) whereas origins of the things it claims are concerned. Elvis Presley, (King of Rock & Roll ?) for some reason, was GIVEN this title. I know why--and so do most people with ears and (most importantly) eyes. But, (at this clip indicates) you don't exist...until someone White "discovers" you. We see this everywhere...like with indigenous people (and their appropriated cultures), artistic merit---and concepts, like: what is (and isn't) bravery, beauty, intelligence, etc. But I digress; let's "make America great again"!! (whatever that means). Buy a hat...and, a flag.

      I am 38 years old and grew up watching purple rain as a kid. Along with carwash & the blues brothers.
      Little Richard is the king of rock & roll and a lot of other "white"people would agree that Elvis was very overrated. But let's leave race out of it and all agree that music isn't about color. SRV was one of the most respected blues players of all time. All of the british rockers who grew up listening to blues brought alot of the iconic blurs players over to england to do shows. Giving them a second run at making some money overseas.

  • @robs5903
    @robs5903 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    He was the greatest musician/artist in the world. Tributes to him have come from all genres since he died - hip-hop, punk, heavy metal, jazz, classic rock, pop, theatre, even choirs. He influenced all musicians everywhere in the world. But more importantly for me, on top of all that, HE WAS A GOOD HUMAN BEING.. He should be remembered for that just as much as his music. He was polite, a gentleman, well-spoken, and did many anonymous good deeds for countless people out of love. He proved to the world that being a nice person was "cool". The world is running out of good people and he was a tough one to lose. It's different world since he's been gone. Something is missing....... Do good things.

    I heard that Prince turned down a huge amount of money to have a "Guitar Hero" game built around him, like $20 million dollars. His reason? He didn't want to be associated with people *pretending* to play the guitar, when they could channel that same effort into actually learning to play.
    I don't know if this is a true story, but IMO, as a player Prince was very underrated. On top of all his other musical skills (and the brother could do EVERYTHING), he was a *shredder* when he wanted to be. RIP. Gone way, way, way too soon.

    • @IgnorancEnArrogance
      @IgnorancEnArrogance 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well he was asked about what he though of Guitar Hero in 2007 and didn't know what it was, so not sure if I believe that. But I know for sure he would never do it if asked, it's the same reason Led Zeppelin never gave their songs to guitar hero, Jimmy Page wanted people to play real music.

    • @seancostello2856

      Tony Jones this is why I learned guitar and don play video games guitar hero should be banned this is why nobody plays stringed instruments and rock is circling the drain

    • @IgnorancEnArrogance
      @IgnorancEnArrogance 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sean Costello - There's no point in banning it. I actually played as a kid and did gain some inspiration to play guitar from guitar hero, but I'm one of the few exceptions. Most people just see it as a video game, but it got me into a lot of rock music I've never heard as a kid. At the end of the day it is a waste of time though.

    • @seancostello2856
      @seancostello2856 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KrisJM1234 yea I agree about it can inspire the youth to older songs... but definitely a waste of time, I look back and think if I spent as much time learning chords scales and pickings instead of playing guitar hero or Madden I would be Jimmy page

    • @IgnorancEnArrogance
      @IgnorancEnArrogance 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sean Costello - I struggle with that same thing every day. I've been practicing the most I've ever practice this past year than I have in the past 5 years, to make up for all the time wasted in high school, it's never too late pick up where you left off!
