I love how this episode turned one of Marvel's strongest, most complex and intimidating villains into the uncle who brings up politics at Thanksgiving.
I like to think What If... Thanos was one of the random individuals that he snapped from existence, it would add more depth (not saying he didn't have any) to his character and thought of himself as one of the many unnecessary lives that didn't deserve life. Meaning he really was a missunderstood anti-hero who put his money where his mouth is and actually meant ANYBODY can be erased.

So theoretically there could be planets where the vast majority of the young population was wiped out leaving a huge age imbalance. Like suddenly elderly make up 70% of the population. To to mention losing people at key infrastructure causing huge industrial disasters, not to mention the certainty of wars on any planet that had a monarchical system and the ruling family gets wiped out. half of people are gone and suddenly everything is better works only if sentient beings behave like a unified ant colony. And what about a planet that did have an overpopulation problem but had three times as many people?

Thanos put forward the "Kill half the population" idea on Titan, was called mad, and then Titan died out. So, whatever idea they had instead was wrong. It failed. However, that's not enough to Thanos. It's not enough that his critics were proven wrong, he has to prove that he is right. To prove that he wasn't insane. He dresses it all up with claiming that it's all about self-sacrifice and saving the universe, but with the ultimate power of the cosmos literally in his hands and the ability to do literally anything, up to and including literally going back in time and changing history, he instead does the Snap, just so he can implement his plan and satisfy his own ego.

Movie Thanos would rip What If Thanos' head off after torturing him for millennia for being such a bitch in comparison. In the comic Thanos Wins, the mainline Thanos is summoned to the future by King Thanos (one of the last 4 beings left in existence; The Rider (aka Frank Castle after assuming the mantle of Ghost Rider), the Fallen One (Silver Surfer empowered by black matter and wielding Mjolnir), and the Hulk (who has long since gone mad and now serves as King Thanos' dog). The first thing the younger Thanos did when realizing that King Thanos summoned him there for help fighting The Fallen One, and thus perceived the future King as having gotten weak, got livid and tried to kill the future version of himself for having "gone soft."

People say thanos got nerfed, but his current strength makes sense. He’s still strong and strategic enough to solo hulk no doubt, but he’s clearly not as aggressive as he was originally. He’s not as eager to go for the kill, as seen when he handles the mooks. As for the 2 on 1 fight, even if they were weaker than him, a sneak attack and a crippling blow would be bad for anybody. I think they did a great job with what they had to work with.
I feel like they should have had it to where Thanos had to solo all four of the black guard by himself until Nebula stepped, as not only would that be awesome, but it would definitely be believable that Thanos would need help them. Maybe you could cut Ebony Maw since he is extremely power, but at the very least a 3v1 would make sense
I wouldn't say he could still solo Hulk, when he fought Hulk in Infinity War he was not only tactical in advanced hand-to-hand combat but also had the killer instinct and cold determination, here he's determined yes but the fact that he no longer has the same killer instinct of the MAD TITAN he used to be makes him more careless and less relentless, so saying that he could still solo the hulk is an overstatement. Besides, those two were his henchmen and they really weren't that big of a deal, the lady with the spear was defeated by Black Widow and Okoye, two non-enhanced humans, and the big one was defeated by the hulkbuster with Bruce Banner controlling it (a very inexperienced Banner since it was his first time)
I hated how they nerfed him in this series (and I haven't been too fond of the series to be frank) but that was the one scene where I was like "dang ok Thanos I see you"
I wouldn't say he's mediocre. The danger Thanos held was primarily because of his ideology and drive. The fact that he thought he was the only one who could accomplish his plan made him more ferocious and relentless in battle. Without that mentality he isn't quite so dominating in a fight.

Sure, they got torn apart in Infinity War, but they were outsmarted and outnumbered then by a lot of the powerful players. In this instance they got the jump and ganged up on him. So no they would never overpower Thanos, someone whom effortlessly wrestled the Hulk and defeated him. The armour wouldn't change anything. Hes still ridiculously durable without it. Its embarrassing that he lost to his own former henchmen... like come on they nerfed him so hard in What If...?
@@dod297 Banner didn't defeat Obsidian. Banner tricked him into getting his arm locked in one of the projectiles of the suit, which flew him off into the barrier around Wakanda. Before that, Bruce was severely losing.
I absolutely love this show so far. The fact they completely change up the plots all because of one significant different action leaves room for so many creative ideas to watch such as good guy Thanos in this episode. Looking forward to the rest of the scenarios this show will have to offer.

This episode of What If has to be one of my favorite things to come out of Marvel since End Game. It's just so uplifting and optimistic. It put such a smile on my face.
Why are people complaining about Thanos being nerfed? He's a changed person here, he's not war-like and the same mad titan we saw in the films, plus this is a completely different universe of course he would be different, plus he did get teamed on.
It still doesn't make sense though. He got beat up by someone who got defeated with a barely functioning Hulkbuster and someone who barely managed to beat Okoye and Natasha.

If you're talking about Endgame then Still he was able to keep up with them since they only attacked him from one side instead of two like here without giving him chance to stood up Avengers attacks in Endgem were less Synchronized than here and the attacked him one by one instead of two like in What If version. Tho in Endgame Thanos had trouble to fight with Capitan America (Shield + Mjolnir Combo) because the attacks were fast powerful and synchronized watch it again and you will understand what I'm sayin.
He was overpowering Bruce mostly with his combat experience and strength but Bruce used an smart move to put his arm into Hulkbuster hand block then he got ejected into the air by Bruce where Wakanda's shield was.
it is a memorable line that worked well in context, but to say it is the greatest line in movie history is a gross exaggeration that suggests you should sit down and watch more movies. a very badass line though, indeed.
By the time Thanos began his conquest, it would’ve been too late to reason with him. By the time he reaches Infinity War & Endgame, he is too far gone from being able to see how flawed his vision in “perfectly balancing the universe” was. What I loved about this episode, is that it showed some depth where if caught at the right point in his life. Thanos COULD have been reasoned with, and luckily T’Challa was in the right place in the right time. Basically this entire What If scenario is suggesting that T’Challa becoming Star-Lord would’ve been the better outcome than Peter Quill. He is more famous, is highly respected, and saved trillions of lives across the universe from being able to reform one of the MCU’s most dangerous beings
Problem is, even if Thanos turned good, he wouldn't be a ravager, and certainly not a lackey. He would probably just use his power and status to try to fix problems with the universe in less extreme ways. Maybe becoming a benevolent galactic ruler, this just humanises what is a Titanic figure

Where did you get that? It's completely absurd. Stark created Ultron in response to Loki's invasion in 2012. Invasion that was orchestrated by Thanos. Thanos in this universe never sent Loki to invade Earth. Therefore, neither Ultron nor Vision should exist...

Absolutely. An Infinity Stoneless Thanos took on Cap, Tony, and Thor all at once, and his one-on-ones with Captain Marvel and Hulk still ended with him coming out on top. I guess Black Dwarf and Proxima Midnight were just stronger than I thought....

Well keep this in mind. Who knows how long ago it was when T'challa convinced Thanos to change his mind so he has been out of the game for quite some time. He wasnt spending everyday becoming a war mongering gladiator tyrant like how we see him. So he wasn't as quick and sharp as he was in infinity war and endgame

Ok so the black order is a group of aliens that served Thanos when he started killing from planet to planet. It doesn't make sense that the black order beat Thanos when he was the one who trained them to become what they are in this video. Thanos is the most skilled fighter in Martial Arts and Master planning. It doesn't make sense how he gets defeated by them when he was the one who taught them how to fight effectively.
I think in this universe the black order members never met Thanos because he never started his plan, so he didn’t get to the “recruiting army” stage, and these guys just happened to form an alliance called black order
Well he doesn't have any infinity stones on him, his own army turned against him, and he also doesn't have his usual armor and double bladed sword But then again, his strength and durability is comparable to a more serious version of smart Hulk

Thanos is strong as hell, but not invincible. It took the Hulkbuster to defeat Black Dwarf and the combined effort of Black Widow, Okoye and Scarlet Witch to defeat Proxima. Somehow it doesn't seem too much of a stretch to me that they together could bring Thanos to his knees.

Sure, they got torn apart in Infinity War, but they were outsmarted and outnumbered then by a lot of the powerful players. In this instance they got the jump and ganged up on him. Power level isn't the only factor in winning a fight after all.

@@dod297 Banner didn't defeat Obsidian. Banner tricked him into getting his arm locked in one of the projectiles of the suit, which flew him off into the barrier around Wakanda. Before that, Bruce was severely losing.
Thanos is like a Hulk that was trained in hand to hand combat and was resourceful to his surroundings and calm
I absolutely love this show so far. The fact they completely change up the plots all because of one significant different action leaves room for so many creative ideas to watch such as good guy Thanos in this episode. Looking forward to the rest of the scenarios this show will have to offer.

Why are people complaining about Thanos being nerfed? He's a changed person here, he's not war-like and the same mad titan we saw in the films, plus this is a completely different universe of course he would be different, plus he did get teamed on.
He got teamed on by all of the avengers and they still couldn't beat him, also bare powers
It still doesn't make sense though. He got beat up by someone who got defeated with a barely functioning Hulkbuster and someone who barely managed to beat Okoye and Natasha.

If you're talking about Endgame then Still he was able to keep up with them since they only attacked him from one side instead of two like here without giving him chance to stood up Avengers attacks in Endgem were less Synchronized than here and the attacked him one by one instead of two like in What If version.
Tho in Endgame Thanos had trouble to fight with Capitan America (Shield + Mjolnir Combo) because the attacks were fast powerful and synchronized watch it again and you will understand what I'm sayin.
He was overpowering Bruce mostly with his combat experience and strength but Bruce used an smart move to put his arm into Hulkbuster hand block then he got ejected into the air by Bruce where Wakanda's shield was.

By the time Thanos began his conquest, it would’ve been too late to reason with him. By the time he reaches Infinity War & Endgame, he is too far gone from being able to see how flawed his vision in “perfectly balancing the universe” was.
What I loved about this episode, is that it showed some depth where if caught at the right point in his life. Thanos COULD have been reasoned with, and luckily T’Challa was in the right place in the right time.
Basically this entire What If scenario is suggesting that T’Challa becoming Star-Lord would’ve been the better outcome than Peter Quill. He is more famous, is highly respected, and saved trillions of lives across the universe from being able to reform one of the MCU’s most dangerous beings
Problem is, even if Thanos turned good, he wouldn't be a ravager, and certainly not a lackey. He would probably just use his power and status to try to fix problems with the universe in less extreme ways. Maybe becoming a benevolent galactic ruler, this just humanises what is a Titanic figure

Cull almost killed Iron Man twice and he nearly beat Banner in the Hulk Buster. Infinity War Thor would’ve stomped main timeline Thanos.

Ok so the black order is a group of aliens that served Thanos when he started killing from planet to planet. It doesn't make sense that the black order beat Thanos when he was the one who trained them to become what they are in this video. Thanos is the most skilled fighter in Martial Arts and Master planning. It doesn't make sense how he gets defeated by them when he was the one who taught them how to fight effectively.
I think in this universe the black order members never met Thanos because he never started his plan, so he didn’t get to the “recruiting army” stage, and these guys just happened to form an alliance called black order

Thanos is strong as hell, but not invincible. It took the Hulkbuster to defeat Black Dwarf and the combined effort of Black Widow, Okoye and Scarlet Witch to defeat Proxima. Somehow it doesn't seem too much of a stretch to me that they together could bring Thanos to his knees.
