IMO Ebony Maw was the secret weapon in the 'Infinity War' movie. There was something very Shakespearean with his intro dialogue - having a minor character introduce the action of the plot with a general background on the setting in this case, dying Asgardians thrown upon you. The nobility of his demeanor and voice suggest he is crooked chaperone to Thanos, something reminiscent to Lady Macbeth's loyaly to Macbeth, it truly is fascinating and maybe even an inspiration to the Russo brothers.
Such a cool villain. And I love his relationship with Thanos. It's willing servitude but he has Thanos' complete respect. It adds to Thanos as a character he does not treat his underlings (and his daughters) as worthless even though he is misguided and clearly does not make his daughters feel appreciated.
I felt bad for Maw. He clearly looked up to Thanos, never failing him his entire life and then dying the one time he couldn't succeed. Only for Gamora to be the favorite child. He gave everything while getting nothing in return. I respect that.
i mean...he was clearly the only other "child" thanos gave a fuck about. "this day extracts a heavy toll" is probably the closest thing to mourning you can get from thanos, if your name isnt gamora.
@@thahoule7924 He cared about Maw's ability to get tasks done more than caring for him as friend or family, the way a CEO cares for a skilled salesman who makes him money and is good for his business. I kind of relate to Ebony Maw in that way because growing up it was my little brother my parents were prideful & bragged about bc he was all-state football & baseball in high-school & college who was always good-looking & dated the hottest girls. I was far smarter than him in school & achieved awards for academics & music, but my parents didn't care as much since I was never big, strong, and fast enough to be an elite athlete. 15 years later he's still the poster child, even though I now make $80,000 more than he makes each year and am married with 2 kids whilst he has only one son, is divorced, been fired from 2 jobs the last 6 years, and still has the same drinking problem that made him such a popular party kid in high-school. I can kind of relate to Nebula in this way as well.
I can’t quite put my finger on what I love about Maw, but I completely admire how his character was written. It’s his dialogue, voice, and overall nature that I am a fan of. He’s so loyal to Thanos, and doesn’t mind being perceived as his underling. His “child”. Also, as much as he respects Thanos, I don’t get the vibe that he necessarily fears him. He holds true to his personality and values. Especially at the beginning of Infinity war, when he gives Thanos the tesseract. He does it like he’s doing a religious practice. And Thanos’s patience toward it, makes me love their character dynamic. He even Choked nebula in Endgame. And it wasn’t even in Thanos’s wishes, yet he didn’t seem too opposed toward it. Maw might be a lesser character, but I get a true sense of his importance whenever he is onscreen. Kind of a rant, sorry, but thought I’d talk about it.
He doesn't fear Thanos because he doesn't follow out of fear. He truly believes Thanos's vision for the universe. That's what makes him compelling. There's no sign he's been coerced to serve Thanos, or follows him to usurp him later. He is a zealot to Thanos's cause and that requires nothing from Thanos to keep him in line (as long as Maw continues to believe Thanos can pull off his objective) I have no Canon to support but I like to think Maw was one of Thanos' earliest followers.

"In all the time I have served Thanos I have never failed him." "I take it The Maw is dead. t This day extracts a heavy toll. Still he accomplished his mission." Damn those two lines too lines really match up well when put up next to each other, one of those tiny reasons Infinity War was so phenomenal. It's a shame Endgame did Ebony Maw so dirty.
Two things impressed me about Ebony, the fact he slotted so well into the MCU given that he was created as recently as 2013, and the wonderfully creepy performance the actor gave him, think he's Irish, Tom Lawlor? Anyway, nice villain.
Dude I honestly loved Black Order and I really wish we see more of their backstory and stuff. They made them much weaker here though than in the comics. They are so cool!
Here I explain you in detail about who has the power to kill Thanos and who doesn't have- Ebony maw cannot kill Thanos. Thanos is the most powerful being in the universe because he has the most durable body in the universe. As Ebony Maw mentioned in the beginning of infinity war that no other being had the might and ability to wield more than one infinity stone, and Thanos wielded all the infinity stones and continuously kept them wielding with no difficulty, then he used them as well to do big big things and his body could take all the load of the stones easily. In Endgame he also then used the stones to destroy them all and reduce them to atomic sizes and he even survived this process. So there you go, this is why his body is the toughest body in the universe. Ebony Maw doesn't have enough power to do any damage to such a durable body. Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch has the power to kill Thanos because both of their powers came from infinity stones(Wanda got from mind stone and Carol got from space stone) so that's why they can increase their powers infinitely as much as they want to, so after increasing and increasing their powers at a point their powers will be at such level that they'll be able to overpower the durability of Thanos's body. Thor's stormbreaker can kill Thanos because it has a very powerful magic that can already overpower the durability of Thanos's body. But Thor alone or Thor with mijolnir cannot kill Thanos. Only those can kill Thanos who has the enough power to destroy his body or to destroy his soul/astral body.
Towkir Shuvo also as many have said, if he did manage to beat Thanos through sheer cunning, his body likely wouldn’t survive using infinity stones. That alone is probably why he lets Thanos do that part and pays him so much lip service.
@@towkirshuvo97Your logic makes no sense... Captain Marvel and Wanda cannot indefinitely power themselves up that's complete fabrication. Secondly with that logic Vision could easily best Thanos' durable body yet we know this isnt true. Storm breaker Thor also has the ability to kill Thanos and does the most physical damage to Thanos lol. Thanos although durable certainly isnt invincible. He can be overpowered, we see this with how he bleeds to Iron man and gets totally dominated by Dr Strange and has to resort to having to use every stone to combat him...
@@xaoccc9616 Bro you are wrong. Everything I said is correct. I said nothing wrong. Yes Vision could do the same as Captain Marvel or Scarlet Witch. The reason he couldn't do it because he was injured and weakened by Corvius Glaive. He became weak and was no longer in fighting condition since Covius Glaive injured him the first time. If he was totally fine, then not only he could defeat Thanos, he could also single handedly defeat all Thanos army and Thor wouldn't be even needed. And I of course didn't say that Thanos's body is invincible, I said that his body is the toughest body in the universe. Iron Man could bleed Thanos because well the mystery lies in his suit. And Doctor Strange just stopped Thanos, he couldn't cut or bleed him.
Maw was worried about dissapointing Thanos for not unsealing the the time stone before arriving on Titan. But when Dr. Strange is there with time stone still sealed he said Maw did his job. Super touching.
They had one of the strongest most resilient avengers get knocked out cold in seconds by Thanos. Then they took one of the most powerful villains ever seen in the MCU and made him Thanos’s sidekick. Infinity War really knew how to hype tf out of Thanos.
Obadiah has lots of personality - "Yes, to power the suit... sir, the technology doesn't actually exist. So it's- it's- it's..." "Wait, wait, wait, the technology? William, here is the technology. I've asked you to simply make it smaller." "Ok, sir, that's what we're trying to do, but honestly, it's impossible." "Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps!"
One of my favourite mcu villains fun fact he is also very dark because he’s not a fighter but he makes other people do his dirty work for him so he has no blood on his hands he’s honestly so clever
The second strongest member of the black order. First is super giant who wasn’t even added in any of the movies because of how op she is. She doesn’t have a physical appearance to be touched which is why she’s so strong in the first place because she’s like a ghost. Corvus is third because in comics if he dies and his spear is still around he comes back to life so basically immortality.
Loved the way his voice shivers, may be out of respect, when he utters the word "Grandeur" at 0:57. The amount of respect that ebony maw, and for that matters the whole black order, has towards thanos was the most important factor towards establishing thanos as a super power.

2:18 "That means get lost, Squidward!"
Now that is acool way to introduce a villain, great voice and great words.I really enjoyed infinity war.
He is so powerful such a cool personality

i wish we saw more of him

Maw was worried about dissapointing Thanos for not unsealing the the time stone before arriving on Titan. But when Dr. Strange is there with time stone still sealed he said Maw did his job. Super touching.
They had one of the strongest most resilient avengers get knocked out cold in seconds by Thanos. Then they took one of the most powerful villains ever seen in the MCU and made him Thanos’s sidekick.
Infinity War really knew how to hype tf out of Thanos.
I love it when he says “you must be popular with the children” and the way he says it is unforgettable
"Does this chattering animal speak for you?"🤣
He’s so sassy, yet deadpan
"Stone keeper... Does this chattering animal speak to you?" 💀😂
I LOVED him.
chattering animal and meaningless lives really did it for me lol
"you'll only wish you were dead" is such an amazing line.
Ebony Maw would’ve been an amazing force user
“Your powers are quaint, you must be popular with children”
Idk why but I luv that line so much 😂
You gotta love how despite his voice chewing the scenery, Maw always delivers his lines with such a stoic and calm demeanor
As Tony: He means Get lost Squidward
"Your powers are inconsequential compared to mine" ~ Famous last words
Loki with his illusions and hulk, Thor with their strealth should have put up more of a fight.
THE HULK can tap into unlimited power and I didn't know the green behemoth to be a coward.
Ebony Maw could put up a decent fight against Scarlet Witch, and yes, this is said after Wandavision.
I like how he's just a secondary villain yet he has more personality than Obadiah, Whiplash, Ronan and Malekith.
Obadiah has lots of personality - "Yes, to power the suit... sir, the technology doesn't actually exist. So it's- it's- it's..."
"Wait, wait, wait, the technology? William, here is the technology. I've asked you to simply make it smaller."
"Ok, sir, that's what we're trying to do, but honestly, it's impossible."
"Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps!"
The fact that he only died in Endgame when Tony used the Gaunlet shows how much of a deal he was.
His hand movements at 5:00 onwards are so 💅💅
One of my favourite mcu villains fun fact he is also very dark because he’s not a fighter but he makes other people do his dirty work for him so he has no blood on his hands he’s honestly so clever
Estoy seguro es el más poderoso
Just noticed Loki could’ve kept his mouth shut and they would’ve ignored him
Fr he would’ve still been alive
I love how ebony maw fights so casually
Without speaking
You would think that someone who travels through the space regularly would have a spell or a magical item to help him survive in space.
Loved the way his voice shivers, may be out of respect, when he utters the word "Grandeur" at 0:57.
The amount of respect that ebony maw, and for that matters the whole black order, has towards thanos was the most important factor towards establishing thanos as a super power.
We want more of Maw!
