Kickass metal🤘💀
*radioactive by Imagine Dragons starts playing*
Even the Bullet for my Valentine cover isn't metal, which is a shame.
People who say that imagine dragons is metal make me so angry. Even if they call it pop rock...I just hate it so much. Anyone who listens to metal would highly relate.
@@DippyFresh-d6l Nothing about them is Metal, not saying they make bad music, its something you can listen to once in a while but ... absolutely not metal.
@@ArgelTal_This has me confused as a Imagine Dragon Fan/Fire Breather.
They aren’t Metal, like AT ALL. They’re Pop or Pop Rock at best.
I'm going to make a "Mall Rock" playlist that's full of bands like Nile, Hate Eternal and Origin and see how they like it
They should rename it to "Everything Metal" and no one could argue it's wrong
i got a playlist on youtube music with literally EVERYTHING metal. from straight up old school metal all the way to brutal slamming death gore grind
@@novoice9286 my spotify playlists lol
@@novoice9286 Must be insanely jarring going from a Cannibal Corpse song into a Sleep Token song while that playlist is set to random, or vice versa.
Oh you sweet summer child.
Seriously........I think that playlist included at least 7 or 8 different subgenres of metal (even a few that aren't metal at all; ETF / newer Asking Alexandria (NOT METAL) / Starset). Black metal, classic metal, metalcore, heavy metal, nu-metal, thrash metal, doom metal, etc good god......
I think this is just metal in general and not specifically heavy metal. I think spotify are just being normies and calling every single metal song "heavy metal"
yeah, at least it feels like it
Don’t you hate that. And I feel you are correct on that
It's barely metal.
Spotify just lumps everything with distorted guitars into metal.
back in my days "heavy metal" was "just metal".
Whats the difference between heavy metal and metal now ?
Sounds like all sort of unecessary bullshit.
@@TheBlackfall234
Metal now usually refers to djent and core, which aren't metal.
Huge difference.
Honestly, not too bad. If this was someone's introduction to metal they're getting a lot of different types and could definitely find something they like here
Yeah, a little random, a little leaning towards actual "Heavy Metal" but not the worst Metal playlist
"Heavy metal" has been used as a catch-all umbrella term for all of metal music for ages. And it's usually pretty easy to work out from the context whether it's being used in that sense, or more specifically referring to ye olde meat'n'potatoes traditional metal.
But only for people not actually interested in metal.
"Heavy metal" has been used as a catch-all umbrella term for all of metal music for ages... By people for which all metal music is (too) heavy.
whats wrong with regular metal tho?
“League of legends core” killed me
I want that playlist tbh 👀
Starsets newest singles have been absolute bangers though. Love the heavier direction
Wouldn't that literally just be Pentakill?
Same ahahahaha
😮😮I am so happy that you have the courage to say it out loud
Fun fact: Dream Evil was founded by Fredrik Nordström (rhythm guitars). Fredrik Nordström is the Sweedish producer that produced At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul and all the early In Flames albums up through Clayman
actually sick fun fact
The guy who produced the worst At The Gates album of all time up until their reunion material in the 2010s?
Yeah, send him to the gallows.
@@schmuckford
The man who produced the single worst At the Gates album up until 2014.
Also Snowy Shaw and Gus G. bear mentioning.
Didn't expect to see someone talk about Dream Evil in 2024.
Gojira Performing Olympic opening ceremony was fire! 🔥🤘
Edit : Thanks for the 1.1k likes love yall!
It was yeah I was really surprised
Dude that was Gojira?! That shit was fire
Dude that was Gojira?! That shit was fire
I'm so happy my country represented the French Metal scene!!! Mixed with this opera singer it was craaazy!
Where watch
The meshuggah, soad, tool, and mastodon made my heart happy
you can't not have those bands if you're gonna have a general metal playlist
is tool metal ? i would consider them alt/prog rock if anything
@@necrotafeio Even tool doesn't consider tool as metal so idk why they keep getting called metal
@@symptomofsoulsi mean, tool is tool. The only way I can explain them is heavy pink floyd
Brought warm feelings to my heart.
I would actually not mind watching longer videos of these things, like make it 45min or so
kinda reminds me of MTV TRL in the late 90s/early 00s
That's pretty much how long these sections of his streams are or at least feel like
@@OmegaGohan24 would be fine with watching that on yt
They probably are only allowed to share such a fraction of each song due to copyright
@@du_auch_da4520 You can rewatch the stream on his Twitch (you have to be a subscriber tho)
Brooo Gojira was crazy at Olympics!!! 😂
Major L
They're the only good thing on that opening
@@we_are_bacons not at all!
Watched it here in the UK and they fucking butchered the sound, could hardly hear anything
@@MrGareth616 naaah the sound was great!!!
something i hate about these spotify playlists is that theyre all curated "for you" so theyre all songs on my playlists already so its impossible to discover new music. they need to make some playlists of their picks instead of stuff i already listen to so i can find new things i might enjoy
Well the thing is, when Spotify just started their playlists were exactly like that - they would be a mix of songs you know, songs that you dont know but know the band and then the songs that you dont know from bands you also dont know.
At one point they started aggresively pushing podcast and audiobooks and around the same time their playlist became just the songs you already listened, with very little randomization.
It's another app that went through enshitification.
I love when their playlist titles aren't even accurate. They made me a playlist titled "Belgian Goblin Mode Metal" or something like that. No bands from belgium, no Nekrogoblikon. Wtf
As it was said to me, "Spotify is for listening to music you like, Pandora is for finding music you will like."
Theres a literal tab for discovering new music
That's why I don't use Spotify. I use YTmusic, because it's much easier to discover new music that I like. YT doesn't push hyped-up music like Spotify does.
Spotify playlists introduced me to a few bands that I really dig now, like Loathe, VOLA, Leprous and Alpha Wolf
The Drapery Falls is one of the all-time GOATed metal songs.
PULL ME DOWN AGAIN AND GUIDE ME INTO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
poor timmy 💔
Dude, I love your Fluttershy profile pic! ❤
Yeah, poor thingh sounds like Micky Mouse
Flutter butter
All metal sub-genres are heavy metal genres. Steppenwolf sang 'heavy metal thunder' and Black Sabbath members worked cutting sheet metal. At some point heavy metal stuck and people shortened it to metal.
GOJIRA REACTION INCOMING.

Dreamevil 's Book of heavy metal was the first song let's go
he stopped Brave New World right before it got heavy 😭
Yeah, what a shame
He already heard the song when it came out
He liked the song but felt the screams weren't produced/mixed as well as the rest of the song
@@SEVEN_DUCK
Thought this was about the Maiden record.
Yeah I'm avoiding whatever the hell you described cuz it's probably mallcore.
Right when he finally listens to my favorite band, he just cuts it off 😭
@@jpprainbow6140right???
I don't think necessarily they mean heavy metal as in the sub-genre "heavy metal" but just metal music that sounds heavy
Makes a lot more sense, but that doesn't really explain some of the song choices. Like, Megadeth? We'll Be Back isn't even that heavy. It's more Thrash that it is Heavy.
@@ungabunga115 I think it's just metal, heavy metal is commonly used by the mainstream to represent the whole genre
Which is stupid because sub-genres exist for a reason.
Heavy metal is Black Sabbath, the NWOBHM bands and the early USPM bands like Warlord.
@@7ChaosBlack I thought sabbath was considered doom metal, but sub genres are stupider than me so I don’t know
So many good Trivium songs to choose from and they go with Catastrophist?
Y‘all can‘t just put Deep Purple and fuckin SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL in one playlist wtf man 😭
Eh, from my experience most normies can't even grasp the concept of sub-genres and how something can sound similar yet still very different
Why not? 😂 I like variety.
Ofc you can. And this makes metal so interesting and unique. From Deep Purple to Bring me the Horizon. That's the real fcking evolution
this is how i make my playlist you never know what will come next
Never let them know your next move
7:32 when tim saw Asking Alexandria in the list, his face was GOLD. 😂😂😂
Asking Alexandria first albums were fcking good and heavy
Exhorder is awesome. They were “pantera” when pantera was still a hair band
"Slaughter in the Vatican" is like the lil bro to "Bonded by Blood"
That was such a good mickey mouse at 0:47 😂😂😂
If Nik hits 1.5 millions subscribers by the end of the year he will have to do an archspire cover
make him do involuntary doppelgänger on guitar and vocals
LUTHARO is one of my favorite underrated bands hands down, saw them with Alestorm and Gloryhammer last year, great show. Each of their songs is in the single thousands of listens and I think I might be like 30% of that.
🍻
as someone with slaughterhouse in the same playlist as eleanor rigby, i fully endorse this playlist
miw and knocked loose?
Gotta say, this playlist is so wide open that everything and nothing is heavy metal, all at the same time.
Congrats Spoofify, you set the bar on the ground and then put the extra effort in digging a hole just to stay under it.
Heavy metal is an umbrella term, doesn’t matter how fast or slow or shouty, whatever. All these different sub genre labels are just not necessary. It’s all heavy metal. It denotes any music that has specific sonic characteristics, the main one being heavy distorted guitars which all of these things have. Yes there are varying styles but they’re still heavy metal.
To say ‘well this is more power metal or death core’ is an extreme exercise in splitting hairs.
I know that heavy metal is a genre of metal, which is basically Bands like Priest and ironmaiden, sabbath and is basically the core of all metal, don't tell me you call Emperor heavy metal
I've had The Book of Heavy Metal in my playlist for ages, SLAPS
heavymetal is like ironmaiden, saxon, accept, judas priest??
Yes it is 😅
ah yes, you wouldn't be a metalhead if you didn't complain about every non-issue ever.
Here because I totally thought T swift was in the thumbnail, thought today was gonna truly be the end of days. But you have thankfully proven me wrong, and old Kittie goes so damn hard
Bro, each Opeth song has its own genre 😂
(That’s why I love em😢)
Not really. I mean, it's basically prog rock and metal with some death/doom elements here and there.
@@the_seer_0421Sounds like a new genre
The fact that you've never heard of Dream Evil, absolutely blows my mind. They're metal AF, as proven in The Book of Heavy Metal🤘
Exhorder was one of the original what you guys classify as death metal, ala, canibal corpse, death, morbid angel, deicide, and bands like that
bro what? exhorder plays thrash/groove metal, they're nowhere close to the bands you mentioned.
Wristmeetrazor goes haaaard. They've got some industrial softer tracks that don't really check a box for me but Replica Of A Strange Love is a killer album. The guitarist Tyler is the vocalist of Foreign Hands which is one of my fave upcoming bands right now.
Didn’t know that. I love foreign hands new album
Dude, Lutharo is legit!!! Check out their song Reaper's Call!
😎
Seen Lutharo live in Toronto last year opening for Unleash the Archers, they are great!
The fact Nick skipped Orbit Culture in that playlist made me cry a little bit
Respect lost.. even more than before lol
As an older person this video makes no sense to me. Yes, all the music was some type of Metal (short for Heavy Metal). Nik seemed particularly pleased when some Thrash, Groove, or Power Metal appeared on the playlist, but less pleased when Death or Black metal influences were present (with the exception of At The Gates - because Melodic Death Metal). Please make this make sense to an old person.
Exhorder's vocalist is what Phil Anselmo's style was based on in Pantera. Some say Pantera borrowed from Exhorder, with some recordings suggesting they admitted it.
When I think of Heavy Metal I think of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, shit like that. Not sure who looks at The Big 4 and thinks "Mm, yes, Heavy Metal." I'm looking at you Nik. Big 4 are Thrash and not heavy metal.
True. The main difference being that thinking of AC/DC makes me cringe even harder than thinking of Megadeth
the deep purple threw me off
because compared to everything else there
it's just hard rock
4:43 never heard such a true statement lmfao
Seems like a decently varied playlist. Only genres that seemed to lack a bit were Folk and Pagan metal.
My boss was the original drummer for Exhorder 4:07
Without exhorder there's no pantera
"Exhorder, I don't know what this is"
WHAT!?
The fact that ObZen was in here... fucking priceless. But does it djent?
Noticing how many greys Nik has now then looking in the mirror and seeing mine as well is just wild to me.
I saw someone in your chat daring people to name one classic from after 2005, so...
To the hellfire - Lorna Shore
Through the fire and flames - Dragonforce
Holy hell - Architects
The Christmas truce - Sabaton
Nightmare - Avenged sevenfold
The Armor of Ire - Eternal Champion
Meshuggah - Bleed
Anata - Downward Spiral into Madness
Gojira - The Art of Dying
Psycroptic - (Ob)Servant
some of my personal favorites
Also how can you not mention DEMOLISHER as a modern classic?
I usually don't like most modern metal but there's still some good stuff out there
Power metal is a established thing, it's not new.
Fr it's a like 30+ years old genre at this point
If lizzo made a rock song it would be considered heavy metal.
8:38. you take that back.
Metal STARSET is here and it's incredible.
Gojira went absolutely crazy at the Olympic ceremony!
Good playlist (surprisingly). It is possible to fit all those different subgenres together, but ya gotta curate it specifically so that the old tunes and new tunes will work together instead of sounding jarring. I used to have a playlist where I had Opeth's The Leper Affinity right beside Wheels of Confusion by Black Sabbath and in context it sounded great.
Was there hair metal in that playlist? Cos from this video looks like Spotify missed a lot of party metal that would help make it cohesive.
4:22 I wanna hear a non-irish person try to pronounce that song name lol
Sairsha
It’s pronounced soresha I think
watch any interview ever with saoirse ronan and the interviewer will act like they're the first person to joke about not knowing how to pronounce it lmao
Dream Evil is Gus G on guitar! Dream Evil Break the Chains is insanely good.
Wristmeetsrazor? Fuckin fire! 🔥
Just saw them live with Foreign Hands, so good 😩
You saying what you said about metal core and escape the fate gained mad respect points from me dude. Preach!
How's everyone doing
God’s honest truth? Fucking awful.
This "Exhorder" song could have created a goat black metal song, really liked the intro
Spotify is quite the cow isn’t it Mr.Nocturnal?
Nik needs to check out a NWOTHM playlist for some truly goated old school metal
I feel like heavy metal is subjective
That Dream Evil album had the legendary Gus G on guitar. Dude is an absolute virtuoso.
Hey Nik, recently found your channel and loving all the content. With all the different list type videos I'd love to see one with female metal bands. From old school like Kittie to more modern The Warning. I'm always on the lookout for bands I've never heard of and I think you and your community could come up with some bangers.
All this guy listens to is nu and metalcore, should he really have a say in what’s heavy?
Exactly. The guy is a spoopify...
yeah bc we like him 👍
As soon as he played asking Alexandria a Chevy ad played, more enjoyable loo
WHY DISRESPECT STARSET?!?!
A lot going on in their songs, doubt Nik played much of BNW but it is a great song.
Starset is great but I wouldn't call them Heavy Metal
I love them but they're definitely not metal lol
YO. If you haven’t listened to Dream Evil’s “Chasing the Dragon” is a TRUE gem that not many people know about. For that album only, they had this Greek guitarist that I would consider legendary. So many great riffs/solos.
Dude, Gus G was on their first THREE albums! He’s a total beast though, and his band Firewind is awesome 🤘
I don't search for genres when I listen to music on Spotify. I search for an artist I already enjoy and then I navigate to what Spotify refers to as that artist's radio. It's basically a computer-generated playlist of songs similar to and including the artist I searched for.
I mean I guess they just mean various metal. I would definitely listen to this kind of metal playlist
The book of heavy metal... It's been years since I didn't ear this. Since I played brutal legend, I think. Good playlist.
Unleash the Archers make me proud to be Canadian
They left us out so they don't count
Heavier than it’s ever been. Also poppy as it’s ever been. So many samples
To be honest, I thought that performance was friggin incredible! The visual alone, was killer with the multiple beheaded Marie Antoinette s plus the opera singer, while Gorjira's music just shredding with absolute spot on tightness. Pure rock through and through. Instead of pigeon holeing genres, and throwing them into the "thrash" category, I think bands should be categorized by their monikers like Gojiria,or Megadeth. 👍🤘👊
To my generation, bands that sound like DragonForce, were called speed metal, Helloween being prime exsample.
I would never disrespect my beloved Black Sabbath with putting modern metal into the same category as them.
come one dude... Dream Evil was a project by Fredrik Nordström.... producer of Dimmu Borgir, Hammerfall, In Flames and... basiclly the inventor of the göteborg metal sound of the 90s...
Sometimes, I wish I was just getting into metal and hearing these songs for the first time,
Makes me wonder with how easy it all is to access how different my taste would have been having full access to this many random songs that dont make sense to put together
Haven't finished the vid so forgive me if you did mention it; the album Petrodraconic Apocalypse by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is an amazing intro to metal
I don't know if it's the same in Canada, but in the US the Heavy Metal playlist on Spotify is one of the Made for You playlists. Which means it would be based on Nik's listening history to an extent. Mine looks a bit different.
I like how your twitch chat is 100% the type of people who'd think this is metal
Wouldnt most people today consider 'heavy metal' as an umbrella term today? Whatever is heavy and is metal is heavy metal lol
I Think of spotify's heavy metal playlist as a gateway for newbies. gotta start them off slow or gonna scare them away! Once they start wanting more they will find the good stuff!
Heavy metal is the tree, and all subgenres with "metal" in them are its branches.
i think Nevertel sounds like a metal band. they kind of sound like a mix of linkin park with some hiphop and some aggressive metal for sure. Sym sounds exactly like Linkin Park
Orden Ogan. In the Dawn of the AI goes hard. So far still probably one of the few songs of theirs I actually enjoy. Probably more hiding, but this one's probably my favorite and best I'll find thus far.
I think the best heavy metal bands are posting their songs not on Spotify, but on Suno right now.
can you come to brazil, i need to steal a good phone
Bro :-D
It'd be wild if taylor actually dropped a metal album
Kicka$$ metal playlist
I forgot Dream Evil existed, that was a solid album
It would be pretty fun to see a comparison of like the metalcore playlist on different streaming platforms like spoopoofoo apple music and Tidal and see which one is the best
Gojira was amazing the other night!!! Thanks Nik!!! Pantera, Lamb of God, In flames Halo effect phenomenal!!! Yes
