@@zuhri8 Kurt (the poetic persona) is talking to "us" (song listeners) about a conversation had with a third person (probably his mom), about feelling compelled to leave home and follow his own path in life. He's hesitant and sometimes fearful of letting go of adolescence and moving into adulthood.

I was there. Not in this concert. But in that world -1993. That was another planet. One where you gladly gave hours of your life to one single song, days to one record, weeks to one video, years to one band. No instant gratification addiction. Just sheer expectancy. Dates marked on a calendar for the next, concert, the next song release, the top 10 video countdown of the week. It was all a hunting, a waiting game. For a CD at the store, for a song in the radio, for
a video on tv. No FOMO, just sheer enjoyment and expression. No scrolling, no next video, no swiping. There was no share button, we were all living it everywhere.
The air in the whole world smelled of Kurt to us Nirvana lovers.

@@annemcnally5 I am/was a huge Nirvana fan growing up, even had a band which i was the lead singer and you're 100% right. I took singing lessons where i learned, no matter how passionate you are, your healthy will take a toll on your vocal chords sooner or later. Knowing Kurt's smoking and drinking habits had he lived more years either he would adapt and stop singing that way or he would ended up like lot old rock singers Bon Jovi, Axl Rose etc. He knew that by the way he was planning to change more to a kind of folk singer kind Neil young, Dylan kind of music instead of Seattle based sound like Mudhoney!!

My friend's brother had the chance to see Nirvana live in 93 but it was in the middle of his high school exams and his parents thought it would be better if he stayed home and studied. He thought he'd get the chance to see them again and is now a Doctor. But he's a Doctor that missed the chance to see Nirvana. I like to think that during every prostate exam he gives and every Anti-vaxx parent he has to humour he thinks about that awful decision he made.

Kurt continually referred to the band as a punk band. In Come as You Are, Kurt said, "Looking back on the production of Nevermind, I'm embarrassed by it now. It's closer to a Mötley Crüe record than it is a punk rock record". Why would he say that if he was in a grunge band trying to make a grunge album? Also, there is famous quote from Kurt, something like, "Punk is musical freedom. It’s saying, doing and playing what you want. In Webster’s terms, ‘nirvana’ means freedom from pain, suffering and the external world, and that’s pretty close to my definition of Punk Rock."
Grunge as a genre was a marketing tool cooked up by a record label to make music from the Seattle scene more marketable. Does that sound remotely like something Cobain would've wanted to be associated with?

Kurt Cobain was different, for sure. he had something special about him. he was able to connect with people through his art. he was a tortured artist. but there is ultimately nothing glamorous or cool about his downfall or his death. it is hard to watch Nirvana videos and not feel bad for Kurt. yes, a lot of problems were his choice. but he was still an amazing musician with a unique way of thinking

apart from appreciating one of the best live performances of the song .... someone notices the intensity of the beat of the drums with which dave grohl hits with the chorus she said shae said comes out ..... it is absolutely incredible

To the comments below. There are still bands that have energy like this. Going to a hardcore show, you'll find some of the best energy between the band and then crowd. The band plays their heart out, and the crowd is just having so much fun. I'm 28, so I'm telling you, I've seen bands with great energy and music, even if it involves screaming which I know alit of ppl don't like, but the energy is amazing
