    Just got into rc this year, after a bit of searching I went with the hoss. Lots of fun, and I never regretted getting it. That being said, for the 3-4 months I've had it, I've spent more time fixing it than driving it. Broke on its first time out. It's a drive shaft killer for sure, and the steering and arms are pretty weak. Servo is absolute garbage, best upgrade I did was the servo. Got myself a Maxx about a month ago and my first thought was I should have just bought the Maxx in the first place. It drives better, jumps better, feels much more sturdy and substantial. I'm trying to break it so I can have an excuse to work on it and I can't, where as with the hoss I was careful and it broke anyway. From my personal experience it's not even a fair comparison. The Maxx is light-years ahead of the hoss, and very much worth the extra money up front.

    Hoss is amazing in the air. I bought the Maxx recently for toughness and 4s, but I also love the Hoss!! It is not overpriced, really. Maxx is a bargain though, to me. They are much cheaper trucks out there, obviously, both require upgrades. Good video...

  • @ValleyRC
    @ValleyRC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    The Hoss is pretty close to be fair to it. That slash style chassis family still has some miles in it yet.
    It does indeed seem a little more stable and thanks it's lighter weight, it seems to be very responsive to the throttle while in the air.
    I always thought it would be good though, even if it is a parts bin special.
    I would still be temped to go for the Maxx though.

      @@cindyshields5753 How is the stampede better? The hoss has a better motor, factory esc fan, metal spur gear, stronger diffs, and it has the new body latch system. The stampede is also uglier. The maxx is slower than the hoss because it's heavier. Batteries and chargers for the hoss are cheaper than the maxx. Parts are cheaper for the hoss than the maxx. The hoss handles better than both the stampede and the maxx. The hoss has better tires than both the maxx and the stampede. Just because the maxx is 4s doesn't automatically make it better. It is actually inferior in more ways than it is superior. The only thing that the stampede does better is pricing.

This video is ridiculous and they just keep going lol. If they do break, the support to fix it is endless, unlike my Vaterra I've already shelved. I'm clearly not hard enough on my Rustler VXL 4x4, but seeing this makes me a lot more comfortable doing it! Great videos, best rc sub on the tube.

      As someone that was in the hobby 20 years ago, I just bought the Arrma Kraton. Back in the day, it was mostly nitro, and the electric cars were all plastic. I know the reason behind all the plastic, and it does have it's advantages, but they just sound and feel cheap. That's about all I can come up with against them, because all the Traxxas vehicles I've owned over the years were always the toughest, except the T-Maxx vs Savage. Savage wins every time, Lol.

    Team Hoss! Yeah, it's a parts bin car. But I have a Slash, and that thing is tough! So, they're great parts in that bin. Also, since it shares parts....it gonna share parts from my parts bin, and use the batteries I already have. Plus what others have said about being lighter. Lastly, those parts are gonna be cheap for repairs too. Love em both though obviously.

    The maxx is a much better monster truck platform. Traxxas put time into designing something from scratch to give people who don’t have the space or the money to purchase a full size Xmaxx or people who just don’t want something that large

  • @radioflitercairplanes1715
    @radioflitercairplanes1715 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The V2 is definitely worth the additional $$.
    I have the X-Maxx and it is my absolute favorite R/C Monster truck, but I love that the MAXX v2's smaller size. If I drove the Maxx V2 before I dropped the money on the X-maxx, I probably would have passed on the X-maxx. The Maxx is mire nimble and the cost can't be beat for a R/C that is so well engineered. If you want a truck that is damn near bullet proof has excellent plus performance, the Maxx v2 is the ticket.

      The Hoss is now $430, making it $140 cheaper than the now $570 Maxx for the price gap, considering the Hoss has the same motor as the Maxx, and stock parts that are upgrades for other trucks in the Hoss’ class, I’d say it’s definitely a pretty good deal.

    Umm Kinda torn here... the Slash was a design that was done really well in the beginning and basing a "new" MT/Truggy on it wasn't going to a complete failure was it. Lower power brings stability especially at a speed, 3S power level V's 4S with the Maxx...
    Kinda Proud and... the X-Maxx 8s (My absolute fav.....) stock for stock is still unchallenged pretty amazing... some cars Companies Get Right from the near get go.

      You want a crappy driveline and clutch, then go ahead, not to mention you will need to replace the transmitter/reciever/servo for it to be decent. Lets not forget the shocks, they suck.

    From my experience, the MAXX is the clear winner for me. The larger ESC & Shocks on the MAXX are worth the extra cha-ching by themselves, then factor in the more robust chassis.. EXCELLENT.
    Make no mistake, if the Hoss is more to your liking , it is a very nice truck and it does feel a touch more.
    nimble. As you can see from this video , Kevin & his buddies put both truck through a lengthy beating and did not hold back. Last time I saw anything get thrashed that hard was when I rubbed rotten banana all over my ex-wife and pushed her into the Gorilla cage !🤣
    Once again Traxxas has given us two incredibly tough vehicles, BOTH are way cool....

    Definitely the maxx. I have the stampede 4x4 vxl. The hoss is rustler length I believe, but is still the same chassis/diffs/drivetrain as the 4x4 rustler/slash/stampede, except for the motor and center diff. The maxx 4s is the next level. Get the $100 cvd's for the maxx 4s and go nuts. I just wish the maxx4s was a bit larger size with revo sized diffs/cvd's and the same general dimensions. They need to make one the size of the ERBEv2 that is just as capable but for 6S just like the ERBEv2. I'd get rid of my ERBEv2 and get that if they made it. As much as I like my revo... I'd rather have traditional stand up shocks and for the love of god... no battery bays with stupid doors on them that break constantly.

      The Hoss is similar but different to all the trucks you mentioned. The Maxx is worth the extra $140 if you have it, but the Hoss is also a great option. The Stampede 4X4 VXL is not worth its though. The Stampede platform was never meant for 3S, and it always had issues

  • @Fpsnut
    @Fpsnut 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason Hoss feels more stable is because Maxx comes with terrible tuning from factory. Research on line and you will see. Center diff stock oil weight is 20M!!! Way too heavy and locks up the center differential. Tp-Parts Rc-Xtreme spent a lot of time retuning his and got it to a point where it drives beautifully and he loves it. His specs are: 7k rear - 60k mid - 50k front. Also runs 35wt oil in shocks and uses a wide kit along with 46T metall spur. If you ever open up center diff in Maxx, you will find out it's pretty much packed with gum and not oil.

    For $50 more than the price of the MAXX, I couldhave an eRevo2.0. bigger motor, 6sESC, steel dog bone drive axles, one of the best handling 1/8 r/c's out and most adjustable suspension. Arrma Keaton 6s is great also if you want to sacrifice some refinement of traxxas for more simple design and durability.
    The MAXX Should be $499. It's more durable than the EMAXX but the EMAXX was 6s with the 1/8th Revo motor and ESC.
    The HOSS is nice with the big 3670 2400kv MAXX motor but it's overpriced at $449-479. $400-$429 would be fine. The Slash based design is not worth the premium $449-$479 price.
    But Traxxas models do offer the most refined r/c model experience in the industry and the best customer service. They have sent me replacement parts with zero hesitation and almost zero questions asked. One call, 7days a week. So that's definitely worth a few extra $$ I guess.
