  • Feeling antsy because you haven't shot any film for the past couple weeks, what do you photograph when there's nothing to photograph. If you have the "Nothing To Photograph Blues" maybe head out to a local "Blues" or "Jazz" festival and get the create juices flowing with the tunes.
I'll show you what didn't work, and what did work, while using a couple rangefinder cameras at a nearby festival.

Now he shoots for gallery shows around the world, mostly street work and portraits made with a Rollei twin lens. For 35mm shooting he uses a Nikon F3 and a couple M-mount Leica cameras and shoots mostly Ilford film.

Thanks for posting , you are really getting better at this youtube stuff. One of my favorite things about shooting stage performers is they don't really have enough time to pay attention to the photographer "all the time" which allows for really honest candid shots. Even classical music performers can exhibit an intensity that they would never show in everyday life.

Great video and shots. By chance I took this advice photographing Joe Walsh here in NZ 2 month's ago. It was a small concert where Joe returned to the local indigenous Maori community that was the beginning of his journey to give up drugs when he lived here in the 1980's. The expected crowd was 1000 but it rained heavily and was just 300. I was able to freely wander close to the stage with my Leica MP and Minolta M-Rokkor 90mm which as you pointed out was perfect for the job. I took a photo of Joe at an Eagles concert here in 1976 and was able to get Joe to sign the photo. Very pleased. Best regards.

Another great video Rob. Interesting to hear you explain your process behind finding the composition and how you had to dodge and burn the prints to get what you wanted. Went to Jim's website. Holy cow did he have unfettered access to all those stars. His images are incredible! Thanks for sharing his website.

As always an interesting video that provokes thought. Thanks Rob.
I also shoot often with two cameras one on top of each other.
One camera ( the Leica ) in a short strap shooting B&W and a longer strap ( the Nikon F3 ) shooting colour.
With different lenses I can hopefully never miss a shot.
