- Playthrough with Ryo Sakazaki. For the longest time I have never been able to beat this game on one credit without using Shin Akuma, but I finally managed it.
It's not that the standard opponents are hard (although some have annoying A.I., like Balrog) but the bosses are stupidly difficult. There is an easy way to beat Violent Ken, at least: just get him away from you and then start doing kooh kens, and he'll keep dashing into them. You could also use haow ken, although you aren't fighting a guy with a weapon.
Next up is Shin Akuma. It doesn't really matter if you fight him or Mr. Karate here, you're still screwed. I don't know what SNK were thinking when they decided to give these guys infinite super moves, but the general plan is to spam Ryo's kohou shippuu ken and hope for the best. This move has some armor properties and if you can get the timing down right, you can get a pattern where Shin Akuma may block the first attack, but won't block it if you immediately do it again. However this really isn't a good strategy and I just got lucky when I beat him.
Finally there's Athena. Again, like Shin Akuma, she can do her super moves whenever she wants, but compared to the previous boss she's pretty easy. And it's vastly preferable to fight her instead of Red Arremer, who's one of the worst bosses of all time (see my playthrough of the Xbox version to see that boss fight:

Athena in SVC probably one of the cheapest secret final boss in the game and definitely the most broken character hands down.
She's still a bit cheap in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, but a hell of a lot of fun to use, since they didn't include my favorite Athena in the game, her ancestor from KoF, Athena Asamiya.
She's named Athena, she'll do just fine though.
I have the U.S. Xbox version, and even on the easiest difficulties the AI is still some of the cheapest of all time. Good job on the one credit clear, show the game who's boss!
Growing up on MK2 made this like child's play, even an easy SNK game at that.

Is there a US version of this game? I can only find the Japanese import.
On xbox yes on ps2 no. Ps2 only has the Japanese and pal versions.
Apparently to get the secret boss fight, you have to win every round with a special move, but you got a normal move ko against Hugo, and still git the fight.
Amazing how only the Japanese PS2 version retains all the announcer speech (or versus the X-Box version, which uses the NGBC announcer for some stupid reason). Some of the announcer phrases got axed in the PAL version of the game, which makes the Japanese version far more complete, and desirable to me.
PAL version is a beta, the final version is released only on Japan because of the $h!tty preconception from Clony of America against 2D games.
Hey how do you get to Shin Akuma? Every time I play I get Mr. Karate instead.
Fantastic job. I think this is the first time I saw anyone get through n a single credit. But then the secret is to spam your fireballs on Violent Ken and strong punches on Shin Akuma and just hope that they get through due to SNK's trademark cheap A.I. :)
I have this on my XBOX never played it when it first came out but I like it a worthy game in the mashup with Crapcom vs SNK but the first two were excellent 😆

Nice playthrough. Shame you had to pick one of the most boring characters to do it with... but, that aside, major kudos for the 1 credit clear!

Rage Quitter 87 But he’s absolutely correct. Ryo is just a boring pseudo-Shotokun imitation of Ryu that SNK cooked up in a hurry to hop on the fighting game bandwagon after the immense success of Street Fighter; Recipe for Ryo’s appearance:
Take Ryu, change out the u for an o, change his gi color to orange but add a black undershirt to make Ryo “original” (and I use that term lightly), remove the headband, and change his hair color to Ken’s and alter his fighting stance every couple games in order to further make Ryo “unique” (again, using that term lightly).
Recipe for Ryo’s moveset:
Take Ryu’s standard Hadouken but make it one-handed along with the ability to fire aerial as well like Gouki’s Zankuu Hadouken and color it yellow, modify Ryu’s Shoryuken animation for an uppercut attack, throw in a half-assed Tatsumaki-esque roundhouse kick, and a charged variant of Ryo’s standard projectile a la Shinkuu Hadouken. One more thing to note is the blatant similarity between Gouki and Mr. Karate, as SNK obviously borrowed the whole “mysterious warrior” archetype from Gouki, but gave Mr. Karate a different backstory (the twist of which is SUPER obvious). It’s like the old saying goes: “What’s the best way to beat the competition? Copy them!”
Oh, and Dan Hibiki was basically Capcom trolling SNK about Ryo, which is awesome.

You can only play it on the Xbox for the American version. Now if you wanna play it on the PS2, you have to buy a Japanese PS2.

@@erickmonroy5363 nope, Pal version exist only it's a CD and not a DVD like Japan. That could.matter if your disc swapping imports.

This is factual. Capcom hired the same artist (shinkiro) after SNK and their bankrupt or money issues?

Of course cause of Shinkiro 😆 so of course it’s gonna look and play like a KOF game just with some variations and broken combos I like the Exceeds
SNK has better animations but the Capcom sprites are better imo. I mean Third Strike and CvS2 are what I would point to.

@@gabote82 ive downloaded the pal and ntsc-j versions for the ps2. Any super combos that require charging cannot be done properly on the player 1 side. I get them to work more on the p2 side. This game has a lot of problems. Poor.
